At the risk of provoking eye-rolling at the mention of a Captain America script treatment I created back in the 90's I nevertheless had a scene of present-day Cap visiting Bucky's grave and noticing the tombstone of someone named Jack Kirby. I had him pause and give a little nod before departing the cemetery.

That's awesome. But Marvel would never allow it, because it would admit they have no moral high ground on this.
Also, they're way too busy sucking on Stan Lee's overrated, over-credited old pole.

Avengers was a sick film and the benchmark for every other comic adapted film to come.
Nolans Bats is good but I don't want a real world batman, I want comic book.
Whedon hit all the right buttons with this pic and the cast worked tremendously together.

I'm happy for the film, but this still burns my ass:

$0.00 to the Kirby Estate.

You know, the guy who actually created 90% of the characters in the movie.

F you, Disney/Marvel. Seriously.

I like how this has become an internet meme unto itself.

About the $1 billion figure, comparing it to Titanic isn't really appropriate, because you need to account for inflation.

LOL

A billion dollars is a billion dollars...there is not much of a inflation gap from Titanic to Avengers...I could understand if Titanic was made 30-40 years ago...

Actually, there's been about 43% inflation from 1997 to 2012 in the US.

So unless you think 43% is 'not much', I would say your assessment is pretty wrong.

Well, a billion in less than 2 weeks worldwide, hate to imagine what it's final gross will be once it's done. But gotta admit, sure a big chunk of this was made from the overpriced 3D showings.

Thanks and yeah, it is definitely a bummer to know how he was treated with regard to his characters.

Actually it's been out for almost a month in some parts of the world :lol

Still think it will end up around $1.5bn worldwide.

Meh.
A billion ain't what it used to be.
The U.S. govt spends about 7.2 billion daily.
At least Joss and Disney/Marvel earned it honestly.

Congrats to Joss for weaving a tale people wanted to part with their hard earned money to see more than once.
That is rare, especially in this economy.
This movie will force me to buy a blu ray.

Saw it again and was even more impressed.

Despite this being a pow pow superhero movie it could really be used as an instruction manual on how to write a screenplay for an ensemble.

Just one example - We get to see a secondary character fleshed out (Coulson) with just 2 beats - he's dating a cellist and he's a geek for Cap. This allows us to feel for him so he can serve a plot point that serves as the 3rd act launching point. There are other examples of this that demonstrate the story telling is masterfully craftsman-like in this movie, it's not just metas hitting each other.

It should. It's absolutely disgusting how Marvel has mistreated the Kirby estate and his legacy.

Of course, maybe it's not in their best interest to admit that Kirby co-created or outright created most of their most popular characters.

And Stan Lee is also intent on ensuring he remains the figural and false wizard behind the curtain.

But you think The Hobbit will :wink1:

:lol

PS: I think it could

Of course but I said the other two comic films. The Hobbit is not a comic film. If you want me to be specific on the issue I think The Hobbit will at worst make 2 billion world wide.

They might but I would side against it.

You pull over and beat dead horses on the side of the road too? And why would you think Disney should care about a 50 year old issue that was between Lee and Kirby? If I bought the company and its assets I'd probably give a salute in the credits to the nerdragers just like they did. Good job having more integrity (on a message board at least) than Kirby, because when the money was right, he didn't have a problem jumping back to Marvel for awhile despite his differences.

Did he hurt your feelings? :dunno:rotfl
