Avengers could have a 50% drop to a 50 million third weekend and still beat a typical 35-40 million opening for Battleship. I won't be seeing BS in theaters.

No, Battleship doesn't look like a movie event for me and I'm a huge Neeson fan, but I hope it does well for Peter Berg. He always comes across as one down to earth dude, so I hope this thing at least can be considered a success for his careeer, regardless of how it pulls this weekend.

Yeah, I like that genre I just decided not to see it in the theater incase it wasn't that great. Renting it for $5 is much safer than $10-15. :lol

I would expect it to. BS should be fun but I don't think it will get enough viewers to take #1.

1. I stick to the matinee showings for $5. Usually around 10-15 folks in there too, which I like. But yeah, I've spent $10 on movies before and felt like I got ripped off leaving the theater. :lol

2. Agreed on BS not being #1 too.

What entices viewers to go see a film like Battleship? I mean, honestly, WTF? Can't people tell the difference between ____ and ____ covered in special effects?

I'm also annoyed at these people posting spoiler tags that say: RIP Coulson. He's a fictional movie character for christs sake! And all these people getting pissed at the writing team for killing him off. Someone had to die. Simple fact. You need that catalyst to get the characters stirred up. But I am so sick of people mourning his ____ing death as if it's real life. Christ have mercy. Some people......

Go stand next to a theatre entrance and see how many people wander in with tthat vague look scanning the title board and asking if that new Transformers movie is playing... :rotfl:rotfl:rotfl

then again, you'll also get some of the die hard fans of the cast and probably a mixture of people who just think it looks "cool". Which I do, but I think it'll look cool at home on my TV eventually. :exactly:

True. The general cinema audience craves 3D, explosions and robots:monkey1 But I still question the mindset of people entering a theatre playing Battleship. Maybe if your a Liam Neeson fan but then again the man chooses some ____ty roles. So my query still remains. What is the mindset of those buying a ticket for Battleship? It might have 3D, explosions and robots but can't people tell the difference between ____, and ____ covered in special effects? and robots?

:exactly: I agree and I am one of those Neeson fans. :yess:
Still gonna wait for Blu ray tho.

I just felt like a rant. Especially on the whole Coulson thing. I feel marginally better too, though that may be due to the much needed piss I just took.:monkey1

Yeah, if I had waited until the weekend but teaching all day sadly leaves me no time until the school year is over. GR2 was a total waste except I had fun just bsing with my dad.

Exactly. Unless your going for the first hour, I don't understand why anyone would want to see this.

It looks like a fun popcorn flick. That a good enough reason? :)

i know i like being able to go to a movie and just escape and not worry about anything else and watch a movie that has cool effects on screen. i dont always want to see a movie that has a deep story or characters with different layers to them.

How about three children who are all psycho fans of the game and are already _____ing for a movie version of the game despite the fact that they already have two different versions.

I am not budging...but I know someone who will happily concede to their "enthusiasm".

:)
