Avengers will make at least $50m next weekend, so there's one for your anti-Shrek list. I think TDKR is a safe bet for that list too.

I can't believe Titanic made another damn 50 with its 3D release. That's going to make it that much harder to topple. I hope it happens though. And for quite a few reasons (Marvel fanboy dreams come true, humility of the director, etc.) I'd like to see Avengers dethrone Avatar as well but yeah, I just don't see that one happening.

Why do you think that would humiliate Cameron?

I was referring to Whedon's humility and Cameron's lack thereof.

Gottha, just woke up. :lol

I think, Cameron is more proud of Avatar than any other movie. Which would make sense. Seems like it's his baby. I really liked Avatar. But didn't go wonko crazy for it like some folks.

Despite your word mix-up :)lol), I think it would. It'd literally send him back to the old films to see what he could cut in/add to get another theatrical release just to pamper his bruised ego.
Didn't he already re-release Avatar? I thought he did, with deleted scenes added or somthing..

He did and it didn't make much additional money and only lasted a few short weeks. Granted it had only been a few months since the original version had left theaters but still I assumed that with it being the global phenomenon a few months prior that more people would be clamoring for *any* additional Pandora footage.

I wonder if that's any indication as to how psyched the world will (or will not) actually be to see Avatar 2.

If Cameron wants to hold onto the official unadj. #1 spot there are many ways to squeeze more ticket sales for Avatar.
  • He could pull a Lucas and run Avatar briefly the summer before with the trailer for Avatar 2. (I wonder how many of you are old enough to know what I'm talking about)
  • Cameron could put Avatar back in theaters for two weeks as a lead in to the release of Avatar 2.
  • He could have A1 and A2 run as a double feature.
  • He could re-render A1 at 48 or 64 frames per second and put it out hyping a technical breakthrough.

The best way for him to have worked toward the adjusted top spot was to not have released Avatar on video. Its the only way to guarantee continuous theatrical sales if your movie doesn't have Star Wars in the title.

But no, he wanted to eat his cake and have it too. :)

Heres a question about summer showings if anyone knows, if it gets bundled into a package film feature do both movies (or all 3 or all 4 depending on the bundle) each get the credit for that ticket?

What made me think of this is that a city down the road is offering Avengers with 3 older movies for one ticket. So, do you think Avengers gets full claim for new release or do you think the movies which have been out 4 or 5 weeks are also claiming full revenue?

I remember when Cameron made cool movies that people could be fans of without being embarrassed. I kinda miss that guy.

The worst for me was reading in his *authorized* biography that after the success of Titanic he went to his high school reunion and told off the jocks that used to beat him up how they can suck it and bow down to him or whatever.

Wow dude, you're seriously that petty and want everyone to know it? :lol

He also took the time to give Harlan Ellison another shoutout about how pissed he was that he sued to get his name into the credits for the first Terminator. Geez man, let it go.
