Wow, so now the TDKR trolls are comparing Avengers to Battleship?

Where?
The question is simply whether it will make anything like $50MM+ which could give it #1 next weekend
You really think a movie w/zero backstory, based on a stupid boardgame is going to touch $40mil?
I don't think it will
True. The general cinema audience craves 3D, explosions and robots But I still question the mindset of people entering a theatre playing Battleship. Maybe if your a Liam Neeson fan but then again the man chooses some ____ty roles. So my query still remains. What is the mindset of those buying a ticket for Battleship? It might have 3D, explosions and robots but can't people tell the difference between ____, and ____ covered in special effects? and robots?
Let's keep our 3D criticism limited to movies that are actually, you know, being exhibited in 3D. The knee jerk reaction of some people against 3D is hilarious when they start attacking 3D presentations that don't exist.
I also hate the Channing Tatum is in so many movies now and its just one more reason that I'm sure Battleship will suck (3D being the first of course.)
I want Avatar and Titanic to both be surpassed. It's sad that those are the 2 movies atop the all-time box office.
But, sadly, I don't think that happens this year.
I'd love to see Avengers de-throne Avatar ($749m domestic, $2.7B world), but looking at boxofficemojo I'm reminded Avatar played in theaters for 36 weeks. At the time Avatar was released there had been a push for theaters to upgrade and install IMAX but there wasn't a lot of content competing for those screens. Now there is. Every major release gets an IMAX/3D IMAX version. Avengers is not going to play for 36 weeks.
Yeah I don't seeing Avatar falling just yet (maybe in a few years when tickets are $30 a pop .) It'd be nice to see Titanic knocked out of the #2 spot though.
What I want more than anything is for five more movies to make over $441 million domestically so that Shrek 2 can get bumped off the all time top ten list.
