If Cameron wants to hold onto the official unadj. #1 spot there are many ways to squeeze more ticket sales for Avatar.
  • He could pull a Lucas and run Avatar briefly the summer before with the trailer for Avatar 2. (I wonder how many of you are old enough to know what I'm talking about)

  • Cameron could put Avatar back in theaters for two weeks as a lead in to the release of Avatar 2.

  • He could have A1 and A2 run as a double feature.

  • He could re-render A1 at 48 or 64 frames per second and put it out hyping a technical breakthrough.

He could do a 3D relea- oh wait...

The best way for him to have worked toward the adjusted top spot was to not have released Avatar on video. Its the only way to guarantee continuous theatrical sales if your movie doesn't have Star Wars in the title.

But no, he wanted to eat his cake and have it too. :)

Maybe that's one advantage Marvel heroes have that resembles Star Wars. I think you could put Avengers back in the theaters again a year or two from now as a limited summer release and people will go to see it on the big screen, esp. if it's a special edition.

I don't think fans of the Marvel Film Universe series are fatigued or look back cynically the way many people do toward Avatar. $2.7B suggests nearly everyone reading this has seen Avatar, but how many people look back on it as something that sucks? How many of the same people will still think Avengers kicks ass a year or two from now?

I absolutely think that the Avengers characters have an appeal that is Star Wars-esque. Partly because of the comics of course and partly because of the success of the recent film adaptations.

Cap and Iron Man are the Luke and Han of Marvel, Hulk is Chewie, Hawkeye is Lando, BW is Leia, etc., etc. :D

My five year old daughter hasn't watched any Marvel movies from beginning to end but sees the characters and says "Hey there's Thor" or the Hulk and so on. Avatar has been on quite a few times in our house over the years and I think she still might not know the names of the main characters. :lol

The worst for me was reading in his *authorized* biography that after the success of Titanic he went to his high school reunion and told off the jocks that used to beat him up how they can suck it and bow down to him or whatever.
The jocks were probably all, "Yeah, you're a gazillionaire now. Good for you. But you're still a dweeb and your movie is ghey. So turn around for your 20-year wedgie."

:lecture

:lol :lol :lol :lol

And of course we wouldn't even be having this conversation if that narcissistic dope hadn't announced it in his own biography. :duh

What I thought was interesting was the fact that Jarvis called the new suit of armour the Mark VII. Up till now the suits never had any clear identification, other than the toys that is.

Be cool to see it theatrically with all the footage that was cut out.

How far would he have gotten if they'd just beaten his ass again? :lol

Captain America: I need men in these buildings. There are people inside that can run into the line of fire. You take them through the basement or through the subway, you keep them off the streets. I need a perimeter as far back as 39th.

Police Sergeant: Why the hell should I take orders from you?

[suddenly three of the Chitauri warriors attack, the cops watch in shock as Cap fights them off with ease, the Sergeant turns to his officer and speaks into his walkie talkie]

Police Sergeant: I need men in those buildings, lead the people down and away from the streets, I need perimeter down to 39th...

Captain America rocks :yess: :rock

Actually, in the first film Stark tells Jarvis to "start a new project file, designated 'Mark II'" when he starts the IM project.

Also in IM2, when the suits are being scanned in the lab, I think it lists the mark designations for each suit.

Pretty cool.
