So expect one soon. I am working on Boromir too, as we speak. So expect news on that front as well. I haven't been doing much with my LOTR figures for a while....

Funny you should post that Josh, I was just looking at my LOTR figures and wondering what a repaint on all of them from you would look like....

thanks Josh, but i have the straps thru the hole in the cloak, around the chest, over the shoulder and back to the quiver but i'm not sure where to connect the end of the strap to the quiver. there's a hole in the strap but nowhere i can see to put that hole.

can someone please tell me where that strap w/ the hole goes on the quiver???

Mookey,

In case you still haven't been answered since this post I'm quoting... I was wondering the same thing as you. But it doesn't look as though the hole at the end of the strap connects to anything, so I just tucked it under the strap in front. As long as you cinch the strap through the clasp near the top of his right shoulder it should be secure enough. Don't know if this is what you wanted to hear, but I just thought I'd try to help out somehow. Please let me know if you find something to fasten the strap to, okay? Thanks.

I don't want to be a debbie downer but am i the only one not feeling the repaint? I think it resembles Snake or Kurt Russell more than Faramir now.

Hah, he's perfect for a RJ MacReady from "The Thing"..

THANK U MUDSHARK! i'm still not sure about this statement..."so I just tucked it under the strap in front." could u describe this a bit better?

We just added Faramir to our Photo Archive (finally)

I meant tucked under the strap that goes through his cloak and across his chest, like in the photo on the back of the box. Maybe they'd planned to have some sort of fastener, like with Legolas, but decided to omit it later...? Anyway, here are some pics of my assembled Faramir so you can see what I did. No big deal really, but it looks OK imho. Hope that answered your question!

GREAT photos Mudshark. Inspired background too. With your shots and the ones Dave just posted at CoolToys, I'm starting to feel a little better about this guy. (Still too shiny though...)

Really great photos....

Thanks JB! I feel about the same as most about the paint, but I really like this figure! The costume, gear, and weapons are all nicely done. I don't feel bad at all about this Faramir, especially for what I paid for him. With a repaint and a bit of tweaking here and there I'm sure he'll look really great. Boromir, too.

I agree, those are fantastic photos, Mudshark! Real natural looking. The sculpt is great and I think the eyes are pretty accurate too. It's just too glossy overall. Hair could be done better too but I really like this one.

Thanks for those photos Mudshark and Dave. I am alot less worried now (tho' he could still use a good repaint).

Got mine. Nothing to really say because it's all been said. Minie had a bunch of black specks in certains area on his face especially on the neck. The paint on the boots suck and the paint from the gloves comes off on the bow, but is easy to scratch off it. I don't know if I will bother sending it back because I may just get it repainted. Outfit is really cool.

I noticed the clasp on the quiver. It is brand new, the gold part looks the same as the proto, the rest was changed. Maybe it was too fragile?

Well, I got mine the other day
1) Burr over the eye. Fixable.
2) The left side of his mustache was painted properly. It seems as though the painter then realized it was lunch time or something because the right side is literally a thick brown line.
3) There's a hole in his cloak

One of my favorite characters, and now I have to go though all the trouble of an exchange.
Bugger.

On that 3rd complaint. Everyone has a hole. It is used to attach his quiver string.

Ah. Thanks. But the first two reasons are more than enough for me to send him back.

I wanted to refrain from adding my negative two cents worth, and most of what I would say has already been said. In my humble opinion the goods far outweigh the bads, and what's not good can certainly be remedied. I realize many people can't or don't want to repaint theirs, so I certainly understand their dissatisfaction if they happened to get one with a funky paint job.

I always inspect new figures with a 3.5x binocular magnifier, which reveals all of the good and bad points of a painted portrait. I often find brush hairs imbedded in the paint, along with other tiny bits of dust, crud, etc., and Faramir was no exception. Most of them are easy to scrape or pick off with a No.11 Exacto blade without marring the paint. Even when it does mar the paint, it's hardly visible to the naked eye. Unfortunately I had a couple that were visible after I removed them, but I plan to repaint mine later on, so no biggie.

This is not uncommon on figures produced by other companies, but it might be something SSC could consider in terms of improving quality control with the production people overseas. Maybe they could use better quality brushes or change brushes before they start to shed. Just a thought, but it might help improve the final results. I also wish they'd stop using such glossy paint for hair and skin applications. It's okay for eyes and lips, but it doesn't look right on surfaces that don't shine... it spoils the scale effect. Well, there's my two cents worth. I still really like Faramir and will definitely be keeping him, but I do plan to make a few improvements to the paint apps. 'Nuff said. :D
