Re: Predator Reboot...

It's entitled "The Predator". Many fans of the franchise consider Jungle Predator to be the ultimate/favorite Predator. I hope that's what the word "The" is implying in the title. If so, this movie should be about the beginnings of P1. For example, follow him with his clan. Learn about how he went solo... etc. End the film with his discovery of earth. P1 sees a base from a distance and watches a UH-1 Huey land on the beach.

Yeah, basically a prequel, but that should be an awesome plot right there.
The fact that Shane Black is writing and directing gives me some hope. Either way, this will be a Day 1 viewing. :)

Re: Predator Reboot...

I think "The" is just the cool new prefix for sequels now. "The" Wolverine, "The" Batman, "The" Predator. Kind of like Independence Day: Resurgence, Godzilla: Resurgence, etc. A few years ago everything was "Rising."

Re: Predator Reboot...

I was just thinking the other day, Idris Elba would make a great contender for one of the main protagonists in a new film.

He'd be like an amalgam Arnold's confidence & ingenuity, Carl Weathers' macho, & Danny Glovers' world weariness.

You're welcome Hollypoop. :duff

Re: Predator Reboot...

I hope we don't see a TRIO of Predators in this movie.

I hope we do see a trio early on, maybe the first 20-30 minutes of the movie, before two of them get murdered. The rest of the way, we follow the remaining Predator on crazy beast mode.

Re: Predator Reboot...

I don't think the Predators were that big of a problem in AvP, AvP:R and Predators but the human characters were. That's what I liked about Predator, where else are you going to get characters like Blain Cooper, Billy Sole and Mac Eliot?

Re: Predator Reboot...

We just need one solid, well acted Predator. The three Preds in Predators were taken out within the space of 15 minutes - terrible!

This! Having multiples spreads the whole magic of Predator too thin, when Predator, Predator 2 and even Requiem clearly show how dangerous and resilient one them alone can be. Predator doesn't need backup.

Re: Predator Reboot...

the predators in AVP served a purpose,
the chopper pred died to show how strong and dangerous the aliens were and to show how careless the young predator was

celtic gave us the movies main fight event. he didnt needed to die but he gave us the best thing of the movie, the actual ALIEN VS PREDATOR fight. he died quickly but had the best scene in the movie.

scar then leads the rest, it works.

the predators in PREDATORS serve NO purpose at all.

they barely show up, one predator dies for no good reason after like 3 minutes of screentime and gets taken out by a grenade (just a shock death for the sake of shock)

and the other predator had a gimmick bird and dies in a rip off scene from predator 1 (ripping off Billy and the big knife scene )

predators did not need 3 predators in it and they dont help the story.

its shocking but AVP had better writing when it comes to the predators themselves

Exactly. If it's written well, it can work.

First and foremost, we all can agree that we are watching this franchise because of the Predator. No Predator fan I know gives a $h!T about the humans. Even as cool as Dutch was, the Predator is still the reason we come back to this line.
Second, this movie needs to go back to what the Predator is. It's purpose. Let's follow him for once and keep the human involvement at a minimum. Also, he needs to fight/hunt a creature that's equally intelligent, cunning, and agile. As the viewers we need to buy-in to whoever this predator is so that we actually root for him when we see him in danger and celebrate when he wins. I never did feel this way for any of the previous Predators (P1 included) but Scar came close.

Lastly, fingers are crossed that Shane Black does this franchise justice to make up for what Robert Rodriquez f00ked up. LOL!

I think Predator 2 has more interesting characters. Perhaps not as well-acted in some cases, but certainly more interesting. Then again, P1 isn't as focused on human conflicts and personal vendettas as P2.

I agree, I wouldn't get caught up on the numbers of Predators, one of the best moments of the franchise is the end of P2 where we see an entire ship full of the lost hunters, each one with a unique and wonderful design in its own right (even if much of the costumes were recycled) So I don't mind multiples at all as long as they are used right. I'm just hoping that they stay faithful to Mr Winstons design and give us a creature reminiscent of the Jungle and City hunters with it's own unique look. Only ADI have really achieved this since with the Wolf.

Made that a bit clearer :)

Re: Predator Reboot...

It has been confirmed that ADI are working on this. Good news IMO, we might see another Wolf...

Good news. They did a great job with Wolf however they still have some work to do on the mandibles but hopefully the Predator design is closer to the original but with some unique touches.
