I went to the dentist few weeks back for the first time in 22 years after constant pain which I thought was a cavity, but the doctor said its was molar tooth being impacted and I require surgery.

I have no idea what that means and from what I've read, the surgery can hurt like a mofo so I started the car and sped off before the doctor could even set an appointment. Nothing puts the fear of God in me than dental surgery. :horror

If anyone has any similar experience though, I'd love to hear it.

The thought of having part of my jaw bone shaved off to remove a tooth would be horrifying. AND, the sleeping gas the dentist gives you kills brain cells. Imagine if you woke up from the surgery... and, I dunno, liked MGS V all of a sudden?!

I had to see my GP for some shoulder issues I'm having and he didn't even examine me, it was a medical student that did it.

Years ago when I was dealing with chronic elbow pain from lifting, I spent well over a grand and saw a good dozen or more specialists and no one could tell me what the problem was. It's a racket. All they do is pass the buck.

Do you have an impacted wisdom tooth? Don't listen to these guys, get it out. Leaving it in will just cause you more pain and trouble in the future. Dental surgery is nothing compared to regular surgery. Just go to an surgeon rather than just a dentist.

Where do you get your information? :lol

Get the tooth out or live in pain or worse later on. :dunno

Did they tell you to stop lifting? You could've paid me a grand to give you that advice. ;)

I had an impacted wisdom tooth, like 45° impacted. It got all infected and made my face swell out and made me sick. They had to take it out in pieces. It was the worst pain ive ever had next to abdominal hernia surgery recovery. That tooth pushed my bottom row tight and now i have 2 overlapping teeth and i had braces so it was a waste of money too.

During wisdom tooth extraction, your dentist or oral surgeon:

-Makes an incision in the gum tissue to expose the tooth and bone
-Removes bone that blocks access to the tooth root
-Divides the tooth into sections if it's easier to remove in pieces
-Removes the tooth
-Cleans the site of the removed tooth of any debris from the tooth or bone
-Stitches the wound closed to promote healing, though this isn't always necessary
-Places gauze over the extraction site to control bleeding and to help a blood clot form

So you would probably let your kid dress like bufalo bill from silence of the lambs lol

Root canals can't fall off. I had to have the tooth pulled after one because the root still got a crack in it. It happens. It lasted about 3 years. I have another one that I've had close to 10 without any problems.

Welll the crown on top of the canal does fall out a lot

That's only IF it's blocking it. Just because it's impacted doesn't mean it's under bone. Impacted means it's just not through the gum. I'm not sure it's even a wisdom tooth at this point.

Stop scaring the guy! :lol

Most of the time you don't even need gas to have it done. It's no different than having a tooth pulled. As long as you're numb enough, you won't feel anything but pressure. I just had a molar pulled past October and I survived and he didn't even have it numb enough (bastard). I survived. One of the good things about it is when they take it out, they can stitch it over unlike when it's not impacted where you have a hole to worry about. He'll be fine. I've watched them do it on youtube where they took out all four in one setting. I was worried about that I might have to have one of my wisdom teeth taken out but so far so good.

I've got an appointment for mine tomorrow so I'll find out then what needs to be done. Hoping for just a cap.

A crown is put on with heavy duty cement. My tooth was pulled and the crown never came off even then. If a crown falls off then either it wasn't put on properly or it is really old. Unless you're talking about the temp that's put on before you get your permanent one. Those are hard to keep on for sure.

You can thank insurance and people who constantly go to doctors every time they fart.....

Most of the reason insurance is so expensive is the pour money out paying for the same people over and over...

What people?

What people?
There are a large subset of patients that goto multiple MD's every few months getting "treated" for various non-serious condition that could easily be taken care of with lifestyle changes or OTC products. Yet the continually waste the time and resources of the medical system with these issues. They are the ones costing the system billions and the reason you insurance costs so much.
