She was a beautiful cat Lejuan. 19 years is a good life. How was the scotch?

Ah man, sorry about your cat, Lejuan. What a magnificent creature from your photo :(.

Thanks fellas :) The scotch was a year younger than pussygatto... spicy and dignified *slurp :duff

Thanks for indulging my time of pet grief everyone :1-1: Time though to resume normal thread services:

Christmas with the in-laws.

I don't have those. In lieu of, I have the luxury of watching my recently divorced/fired roommate discover the joys of having unemployment benefits run out two weeks before Christmas with three kids. He immediately got a job, but won't get paid until after the holiday. His mom made a comment about the ant and the grasshopper. If I play it right, the ant might be able to pull the grasshopper out of the fire (again) but I don't know. Difficult to see, the future is.

My in-laws are boring as bat****, but they're good people. I guess that really belonged in the 'Things I'm F#$%ing Mildly Not Looking Forward To' thread.

The number of couples I know with young children and who have recently separated... it irritates me. My parents divorced when I was 6. The acrimony went on for years. I can't fathom things getting so bad between my wife and me that splitting the family in two becomes preferable to remaining together.

Sucks about your cat, Lejuan.

Had to put one of ours down last year. She was almost 21.

I've been saying to friends - who kind of don't care much - that putting this one down was harder than the ones who died in various other ways. They don't get it. They reckon 19 years, should've been easy. There's something about looking at that needle doing its work while you chase that last flicker of life in the eyes 'til it disappears.

To cats :duff

Sorry for you loss, Lejuan. You must've taken very good care of her for her to live so long. It's always hard. I hope you find another one that will give you 20 more years of joy. :1-1:

Thanks Ween :1-1: We'll get a mark 2 in the new year - probably a pair. She did well as a loner cat, but I think there's something to be said for a cat having a pal. And kittens playing together is hilarious.

that's what ween said!

20 minutes of joy I can manage no problem. After that it's not nearly as hard as it should be.

100% agree with this. We wouldn't get another solo cat, again. A brother and sister from the same litter would be our preference, so that they always have company, even if we're away for the night or whatnot.

As for things I hate... after recent events in Canada and Australia (and also Pakistan, though that is a different situation, the 'enemy' is the same -- heart goes out to those poor parents and teachers' families), I'm dreading more "lone wolf" attacks. So many places I can think about here that would be such easy targets for a lunatic. Very depressing.

As an Australian, I was both shocked by the events in Sydney and disgusted in the our media's poor response and our Prime Minister's insistence on trying to tie his 'ISIS Death Cult' into a random attack carried out by a lunatic who just happened to be a muslim.

Yeah, appropriating the symbols of Islamic terrorism to validate one's delusions does not a terrorist act make. That freakin' school though... horrific.

I'll just stop now.

All I can say is thank goodness it was a deluded individual rather than a deluded group that perpetrated the Sydney event, otherwise we'd be dealing with a tense relationship with the Muslim populace. As it turned out the more considered police and citizen response put that of the politicians and media to shame.

One discussion happening here is what to do about the nutters wanting to go and fight with ISIS. The politicians are denying them passage out of the country. The citizenry wants them to be allowed to leave and be denied entry back in, applying the understandable logic that a nutter fighting somewhere else is preferable to a frustrated nutter confined to home.

True. Tony'll be turning around every boat he sees now, regardless of trajectory :lol
