Ricky Gervais was tweeting about it and I saw some horrific pics that I wish I hadn't. There's a change.org petition to the Chinese government but I doubt it will do any good.

Reading stuff like that makes me pray for a targeted extinction-level event upon the human race.

I was in Beijing a few years ago when I first saw images of the festival reported in the local (English) paper - truckloads of dogs waiting to be slaughtered. At least the commentary was questioning whether this is the kind of thing that ought to be happening in a modern society.

The West has done its fair share of damage to animal populations over the years, but in the here-and-now the Chinese can stand up and take a bow when it comes to animal cruelty and extinction of species. Their ****ed up cultural practices are promoting the butchering of endangered species in China and Africa. My own mother - bless her - is an educated, Westernised Chinese. And yet she can happily sit at a restaurant and delight in how yummy shark fin soup is and somehow think it's comparable to eating a burger. When my aunt had cancer a few years ago I don't even want to think about the ingredients in the exorbitantly-priced concoction prescribed by the Chinese pharmacist. And no, it didn't work.

Lobsters are bugs, although I know a girl who named the first lobster her father brought home for her, right before he boiled it to death. Traumatic.

Ever cook a lobster ween? Or ordered one before?

I'm gonna need a list of all the non-acceptable meat items in the world...

I've never cared that much for it and would never order a live one to eat.

It's not the meat that bothers me as much as the cooking alive part. Cooking an animal alive is cruel.

That reminds me of Homer taking mouthfuls of his pet lobster in between sobs. Real life though, how brutal for the girl :(

Yulin dogmeat festival. Kidnapping pets and cooking them while still alive. Sub human scum.
