Just as an admittedly small and irrelevant example, what toy companies or properties for toys are operating out of socialist countries? Underwear manufactures? Electronic inventions? Medical discoveries? Car producers? There are some, but they pale in comparison to capitalist societies.

I don't think anyone's advocating nationalizing the toy industry.

I'll end with somthing that we can all realize-- How many threads in the commerce section have been started by US collectors who desperately need to raise funds due to a sudden medical emergency for them or a member of their family that they don't have healthcare to cover it?

Well, I was going to stay out of this, but since you want to take it to this level...

Is the American health care system perfect? No, far from it. But that doesn't mean the knee-jerk reaction of socialism is the answer, either.

In the US, we already have socialism-based private "health maintenance organizations" in place. They aren't government funded, but they work basically the same way. By paying your regular membership fees, you get "complete" coverage, with no deductibles, no co-payments... And almost no real care.

When I was younger, I enrolled my family in one such system (Kaiser-Permanente). For skinned knees, broken arms, runny noses, and routine prenatal care, it worked great. Then my wife got sick. REALLY sick. But the doctors at the HMO kept refusing to administer the correct tests, because they cost too much, and didn't fit in their testing budget. So they took pot shots at trying to diagnose her problem, and the failed. Miserably. Luckily, I was given a chance to opt out of that system and enroll in a regular insurance program and find a regular family doctor, who tested for, and correctly diagnosed, several cancerous cysts in her uterus. Unfortunately, because of the length of time it took to get the right treatment, she was forced to have a hysterectomy. Had we stayed with the HMO, she would likely be dead.

So please, DON'T try to tell me that socialized medicine is better. It's not. Nothing anyone says will ever make me believe otherwise.

They're the same kind of entities as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, actually.

Sums up this thread quite nicely. :D

The ^^^^^ing and snark in this thread is entertaining, to a point, but ain't gonna change that McCain/Palin will lose.

you're right... they will lose. Only cause the parties name only, which is a shame because people need to get their heads out of their :monkey1 and see what this Great new leaders plan is actually going to do to the America.:sick

I want to bookmark this thread as well as a few other political threads so I can refer to them in 5+ years after Obama's economic plan's impact is just starting to be felt so I can say, TOLD YOU SO.

And your comments, taking my quote completely out of context, mean nothing.

Not belittling your post, just funny that "nothing anyone says will change my mind" applies so well to hot button issues like politics, religion, etc. But it's possible that I skipped over the "you've got a good point there and have helped me see how wrongheaded my opinion was" posts. :lol

OK, I see your point now. No worries. And I would love to agree, but, well, nothing anyone says is going to change MY mind. :D

Hmm can I do that now when referring to Bush's? Here we are, 8 years later, aaaand...wait for it...

I TOLD YOU SO :naughty

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. We'll have to agree to disagree. When every citizen in your country doesn't have coverage and people are fearful of $$ when they should be concerned about getting treated (especially in the case of kids) I think that's a problem. But then, like I said, we'll have to agree to disagree because my opinion comes from living in a country with universal health care. Perfect?... No, but every Canadian is covered.

If you think Bush is responsible for a democratic Congress' lack of action to implement oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, you haven't been paying attention

No, I'll blame the 12 years of a republican controlled congress before that.

Something has to be done though. More and more people are losing their insurance every year. People are dying because they aren't getting proper care due to lack of insurance. There was a show on PBS just a couple of nights ago concerning this. Some people are losing their insurance as soon as they're retiring. There has to be change.

I agree HMOs SUCK!

And to top that off. McCain wants to tax insurance coverage as income.

I blame God for this mess. It is all part of his divine plan isn't it?:lol:lol:lol

Actually we're headed for pretty big economic trouble no matter who wins the election. Obviously the losing side will pretend it's the winner's fault to score political points but the writing's already on the wall. The next decade is going to be down to the current credit crisis. Blaming either candidate's economic plan is facile.

The fact that the W'04 stickers have suddenly been removed from cars AND he was mysteriously absent at the RNC (awkward moment) should tell you, even his supporters know "We told them so." It's okay though, live and learn I say :)
