Captain America was a clearly propagandistic icon of last century's America, and he stood for what Americans idealised... white... blonde... muscles... blue eyes. Everything about him is there for a reason. Maybe today America doesn't feel very comfortable with what they idealised back then (and still do IMO), but that doesn't give them license to go back and change history.
Instead of changing Cap to fit the political correctness frenzy of today, they should create new black superheros. And I don't mean the black equivalent of Cap... (Blacktain America or whatever)... I mean new superheros with new powers, and morals that reflect the black community.
Captain America was what the white people saw as the ideal perfect white man, it was the icon that they would gladly like to be represented by.
The black community needs to create its own iconic representatives.
I can already hear some people say "yea, but apart from the looks, Cap's qualities, like being just, and having a strong moral code, and helping others, are qualities that represent the iconic human being of many people regardless of what colour they are"
sure. i agree. but cap is a historic figure. he is social commentary of the times that he was created.. making him black all of a sudden wipes out that entire history and therefore the identity of the character. he is no longer captain america...
