I can't stop watching this, and I had to get my own personal copy out tonight and read this to my kids. :love

So the seven creatures are portrayed by actors in suits up to nine feet tall made of foam, with computer-generated faces.Great move and by the stills and trailers they captured the look of the book exactly.

On another note, im curious to see how they go about treating the dialouge, seeing as the book only had a hand full of sentences. I just hope they dont take to many liberties dialouge wise for the sake of the new medium. Obviously they have to fill up 2 hours with lines, but stay close to and dont diverge from the original message of the book.

I just hope this isnt another project to have "Fantastic trailer-crappy to average film" syndrome. I have faith in spike though.....

You might want to brace yourself. The studio suits have apparently already forced a pretty significant revamp after deciding the original edit was too dark.

I knew that already, for a pretty long time infact, but they have also come out and said they do support his vision. Gary Goetzman has said publically that-

"We support Spike's vision. We're helping him make the vision he wants to make."

Its up to spike basically. And as a director, if they were forcing thier hands as much as has been claimed, he could have just walked away from the entire project, just like he did back in 2000 when he walked away from Universal and went to WB. Obviously hes a very talented director who dosent compromise on his vision, as off the path works such as being John Macovich and Adaption prove. If he felt that the studio was corrupting his vision to that degree, he would have just walked away like he has done with this project before. Him still being on the project is a good sign that even with the interference, its still his vision, which bodes well for the public because his visions have proven to be fantastic films.

Time will tell....

Which is a flat-out lie on their part, or they wouldn't have forced a revamp. Nothing but BS PR spin, unfortunately.

Why would Spike stay on the crappy , completly corporate controlled project then, when he has walked away before?

Him staying on says that hes happy enough with the product to attach his name to it. If hes happy with it, its a good product, which is great for us.

Hes not the kind of director thats looking to put out crappy stuff just for the money, directing credit or studio favor. If he was unhappy with the studios ideas, he would have left.Him still being on the project is a good sign that even with the interference, its still his vision, which is fine with me because his visions have proven to be fantastic films.

When has he walked away from a film that was completely finished?

Right. But to pretend the studio is "supporting his vision" or that he was free to do as he wanted is absolute nonsense, or the film wouldn't have gone through a highly publicized revamp. It's a compromised vision at best.

Welcome to Hollywood.

Hes walked away from this very project with universal AFTER teasers were shown with the Grinch WAY back in 2000.

And I didnt say that he has total liberty on his project, I said i knew there was a huge revamp. Final point im making in this discourse is that a compromised vision from Spike is better than 99 percent of the crap were getting today, and him staying on SUPPORTS the notion that it is still his movie no matter how compromised....

There's no reason to lament the director's original assembly when we haven't anything to compare it to yet. Regardless of whatever's been revised Jonze has been at the helm throughout.
Every single film is a compromised vision.

EXACTLY. People are ready to write off the entire production because of studio involvement when they havent even seen it yet. This is still Jonze's project for a reason.Wait till you see the movie before you become cynical about studio choices and happenings.

Damn those Mcf figures are looking temping as hell now i wish i would have bought them when they released.

When nothing had been shot.

Well no. He shot his movie, and the studio didn't like it. Him staying involved shows he understands how the system works and is willing to live with the compromises.

A teaser trailer is about as "work in progress" and "Wheels in motion" you can get. It was publically known he was directing, and there had been work poured into creating and distrubuting the trailer at a hugely popular movie, and he left.

Sorry, but you know nothing about whats in Spikes head and what he thought, like literally nothing whatsoever. For you to describe his mindset is ludacris, and just shows how little you have to go by, since the film is 6 months from even releasing. At the end of the day THIS IS HIS PROJECT, was from the beg. and it is now, and that is all we know for sure.

I grow tired of our discourse and I choose not to continue it with you, id rather focus on HOW EXCITED I AM FOR THIS FILM!!:chew:banana

Heres a link to some test footage, obviously very ruff with a different actor playing the kid, but gives you an idea of how the monsters look when you give them voices...
