I didnt think TDKR could be berter than TDK but it was IMO.

Just threw watching The Dark Knight. Saw Batman Begins yesterday. Saw The Dark Knight Rises twice since it released. I like The Dark Knight Rises the best followed by Batman Begins and last but not least The Dark Knight. I saw that because I think they're all great films and the trilogy was a masterpiece.

Yeah agreed, but imo, BB feels like it could be made by a different director even. Just the orange tint and Gotham and loads of other things I can't think of off the top of my head, lol. But i've never watched BB then TDK back to back so maybe I need to!

Totally agree - BB has a a very different feeling when compared to TDK. Gotham looks so different in TDK - possibly because they bring in the whole city and don't just focus on the Narrows. Gotham in BB feels more 'grungy'.

And watching them back to back kinda helps bridge the gap a little - I watched BB and TDK in the afternoon before I went to the cinema for Rises. They do all work well together. I do feel that Batman is the biggest change over the films - he's 'scary' in BB but as soon as he gets the new suit he loses that intimidating feel in my opinion. I do love the new costume but he kinda just ends up being a man in a suit, rather than the massive, intimidating beast he was in BB.

Batman is scary in Rises. Batman who's body is broken coming back to confront Bane and save the city. You have to fear a man who only fears not being able to save his city. You have to fear a man whose not afraid to die for it.

I agree but I think that would be phycological fear. I am talking about his sheer size and impact, his physical appearance causing fear. His fight with Bane on the steps at the end, hundreds of people around him and nobody really took any notice. It just feels to me that he has lost some of the impact he had in BB.

Anyone who says otherwise is 13.

Nah, it'd probably would be the exact opposite, especially with this new > old mentality. A 13 year old wouldn't even appreciate the first two Batman films now a days. I guess the only staunch defenders for it would be 20 somethings, 30 somethings or 40 somethings.

Depending on my mood I might rank '89 Batman above Batman Begins. It depends entirely on how I'm feeling.

That's why I hate rankings. Sometimes I'm in the mood to watch Batman Begins and that becomes my current interest. Other times it might be '89 Batman or Returns. Like right now I've started watching The Dark Knight after seeing TDKR and I'm into it more than all the others. I'd probably rank it above everything else if I was asked right now. Next week it might be Begins, the following week it might be Batman '89, who knows.

And no, I'd rank Bale and Keaton about the same. Though Bale did have the luxury to expand the character with a third film so the Bale Bruce Wayne is a bit more intimate since we got to know him more.

Well, I didn’t really mean a current 13 year old as much as someone who is so nostalgia stricken that they’re looking at the whole thing as a 13 year old (the age I was when Batman came out)…. I just find the Nolan stuff to be superior (same with Bale v Keaton), but we are comparing apples and oranges, really.

And yeah, I agree... Keaton and Bale are limited to the confines of their scripts and Bale did have three movies to develop his character as compared to Keaton's two... Of course there would have been more Keaton had Burton stayed on, right? I just remember the ass load of money he was offered yet he still turned it down.

Can we all agree that Christian Bale is THE greatest Batman ever now, too?

Ummmm.... No.

He's up there. But I'm not about to give him the crown, especially since important aspects of his Batman/Bruce Wayne are completely opposite of the source material and the true Batman.

I didn't expect Flosi to jump in Nolan's limbo line to see how low he can go. :lol

BTW, Flo, Conroy still owns. :lecture:lecture:lecture

I don't know. I can't write Batman '89 and Batman Returns off so quickly after being so emotionally invested with it.

With TDKR, there are more similarities now between the Bale and Keaton Bruce Wayne characters.

- Bruce Wayne living in seclusion as a socially retarded hermit.

- Citizens make up crazy stories and rumors about him because of his absence. Some don't even know what he looks like.

- Alfred wants Bruce to find happiness in life, perhaps by finding a woman.

Hell the very end of Batman Returns and TDKR bookend and mirror each other. In BR, Selina refuses Bruce's offer to live a "happy ending" because she's consumed by vengeance. They don't end up being together because it's not really in their dark personalities to have a "normal" or fairly tale life.

TDKR is the exact opposite. Nolan cures Bruce Wayne of his hurt and tames Selina Kyle. They have a "happy ending" and live a fairy tale life in Italy, the exact ending Selina mentions that's impossible for her character to live in Batman Returns.

I can't just write the older films off as crap. There's some great stuff in there. Both eras of film compliment each other very well in what they do and how they interpret the character. They're just different things.

I really like the Nolan stuff... I'm not saying it's perfect, lord knows TDKR has plenty of holes, but it's damn good.

Kevin Conroy is the bomb... I just mean live action.

No, no.... They're not crap AT ALL! I hope you don't think I'm saying that. I just think the Nolan versions are a little better, but by no means am I saying the Burton films suck. They're different and have a far more comic book feel to them (which is wonderful in it's own right).
