I'd like to hear more on this. To me Bane and his motivation felt really deflated at the end, but you seem to think it made the character more interesting.
Batman Begins for me. It's almost perfect. I don't think I can get bored with it.
The Dark Knight is just ok as far as I'm concerned. I really have to be in the mood to watch it. Even then I sometimes switch it off before it finishes.
I just got home after watching The Dark Knight Rises. Whilst watching it I felt it was very, very good. Almost on par with Begins. It really hit all the right notes whilst watching it. But by the time I got back to my car I was finding faults with the final act that will greatly reduce my appreciation of this one over time.
The parts that are playing on my mind are that Bruce is completely broke, unshaven and in soiled prison clothing when he climbs out of the well. The prison he broke out of is presumably in the far east somewhere, but I could be wrong about that. Next he is all clean shaven in normal clothing walking around Gotham which is blockaded by the military and other police forcess.
I could be mistaken on this one, but I swear we have a shot of Batman piloting the Batwing or what ever it is about two seconds before the nuclear explosion. Then it turns out that Batman somehow jettisoned from the craft after activating the autopilot system and escaping to a safe distance to survive the nuclear blast.
I'm not an expert on nuclear bombs, but I don't think he really flew that far away that Gotham would not have suffered some instant effects. I'm guessing it was also close enough to cause long term effects to the city as well. Although I understand that the main reason for attempting to fly it away was to prevent the instant deaths of millions at the time of the explosion.
Next thing we have is Bruce Wayne's funeral. Who or how did they get the courts to decide Bruce was dead. Other than explaining to the courts that Batman and Bruce are the same person I would have thought it would take at least seven years to declare him dead. Especially as he has a history of going missing for years at a time before reappearing.
When the lawyer revealed that the cop played by Gorden Lovett was actually called Robin I wasn't impressed. I had built up a scenario of him taking the reigns of Batman from Bruce. Especially after Batman telling Commissioner Gordon that anyone can be the Bat as he is an image, (at the same time as revealing his true identity to him) not an actual person.
I could be being to harsh with my observations, but if I'm finding what appear to be flaws so soon after one viewing that are playing on my mind, then it can't go at the top of the list for me. It may end up at the bottom over time. I'll have to get the Bluray and see how I feel after an other viewing or two.
IF you remember, Bruce escaped when there was 48 hours till the bomb explodes or something like that, he arrives in Gotham with about 6 hours to spare or something like that I think.
Im not sure how he got to Gotham. id presume it would be using the tunnels for the slaves that his great grandfather build under the mansion, could be a way of getting into the city.
I get what you mean about the presumption of Batman still driving the Bat away, but it could just be selective editing,it looks like Bats is realising something. At first you think its him accepting death, but really its him accepting life. If you think how the editing is done, the bomb is ticking down whilst Gordon is attempting to put the EMP thing on the bomb, and then it cuts to something else for a minuet, but only a second has elapsed, so its showing things happening at the same time. So you could say that The shots of batman in the Bat are happening as he is flying over the bridge. Selective editing I think.
They declare Bruce dead because they use the 'Death by Exile' scene. If you look at all the ice thats shattered when they send the dude who was Daggets right hand man, many rich have been cast out to their deaths, so they can easily say that Wayne was exiled by Crane, league of Shadows and the criminals of Gotham. Thats the only explanation as many of the rich were killed that way.
I didnt mind the reveal. It was more of a fan service than anything. Yeah it wouldve been easier if they said 'Mr R Grayson' but it didnt bother me. JGL reminded me of a mix between Nightwing Grayson and the attitude of Drake.
I think the whole 'Batman could be anybody and inspire hope' was a hint from Bruce to JGL that he could take up the mantle. But after unveiling the statue, I think Blake would put his own twist on the Batman costume out of respect for Bruce. I dont see it like R.I.P where Grayson inherits the costume. I dont think that would fit at all IMO. would be nice if he turned the Batcostume into a nightwing-esque style suit.
I seem to remember a certain clown throwing thugs at Batman and one thug landing a pretty good square hit to Batman's jaw. Or a kick from a hidden knife of the said clown's shoe. Or when the clown sicks the Chechen's dogs on Batman, then easily pummels him with a pipe, throws a net on him and then chokes him with a girder beam.
If that ain't a physical challenge or over powering Batman, I don't know what is.
Joker could beat Bane I bet. He'd fight dirty, but he'd win.
I don't think Joker could beat Bane. Joker is primarily a psychological threat ... he terrorized Gotham with a few sticks of dynamite, and their horror outweighed the actual threat. Bane is completely immune to psy-ops, as Batman learned when he tried to turn out the lights. Bane would crack Joker in half and leave him a laughing paraplegic.
Bane was the first villain in this series that I ever thought had Batman physically overmatched. Even Joker himself said he wouldn't be stupid enough to let the success of his plan hinge on trading haymakers with Batman. He knew he'd lose a fistfight, and we knew he'd lose a fistfight. The best Joker could hope for was rendering Batman's physical force moot ("there's nothing you can do with all your strength") ... he had no hope of overpowering Batman.

Regardless my preference of the 3, this trilogy is right up there with LOTR and Star Wars OT as a genuine masterpiece, the only 3 trilogies that can be labled as such.
I almost feel inclined to make Raiders of the Lost Ark a Batman movie just so it can be included on my masterpiece list.

I'm another one for liking them in the order they were released with begins my favourite. Contains my favourite movie batsuit, batmobile and the year one stuff is fantastic. Has a perfect ending that leaves you begging for more.
For some reason I never saw it in the cinema, wasn't really interested in bat films any more after the Schumacher bull____. One night I was sitting up late myself and put it on pay per view, I loved every minute and my jaw dropped at the ending, still one of my favourites from any film. I must have looked like a ____ing idiot sitting there grinning to myself Worst thing was it was about 3 in the morning and I had no one to talk about it with! I just wasn't ready for how good it was and it's stuck with me ever since.

He'd kidnap Talia and/or learn of Bane's background and break Bane down psychologically. Perhaps even remind him of his days in the pit where he would be in the corner, crying.
Or he'd cheat and shoot him in the head. I dunno, he's the Joker. The Joker always wins. Well, except when he goes up against Batman.
Let's not forget his crazed following of masked thugs. Yeah, Bane has devoted mercenaries to protect him but Joker has plenty of expendable goons at his disposal.
It would be cool to see a film that depicted this. Something along the lines of No Man's Land or Arkham City claim different parts of the city as their territory.
For me it's TDK followed by Begins then TDKR. I felt that Begins and Ras destruction of Gotham by poisoning the water system and Gotham citizens destroying themselves was much more articulate than Bane just hijacking a nuke and setting it off.
