No movie will ever sell as many tickets as GWTW.

Correct. It just had too big of a headstart prior to home video. Kind of like Wilt Chamberlain's record that would have easily been beaten had not offensive goaltending gone into effect after his historic 100 point game. Sure its a record that won't be beaten, but its got an asterisk next to it.

The size of AVATAR's box office shall remain a badge of shame upon the public.

I thought it was great but sadly agree. I really wish Disney delayed the DVD/blu-ray release of The Avengers for the sole purpose of keeping it in theaters until it knocked at least Titanic down a notch.

Newsflash...today's public is WAY different than that from the past....Mostly the Flashy stuff/CGI/Special Effects films will be up there reaching the Billion mark...The rest pretty much will never get there(although Skyfall surprised me with it's numbers)...The Days of beautiful 3 hr Epic Films such as Ben Hur, Ten Commandmants, GWTW,etc,etc, reaching record box office status is pretty much over...Attention spans have dwindled and the age of "Bling" has been upon us...There is still quality made out there but most of the Masses want the Bling...Some films do have epic drama with Bling mixed too-Hobbit for ex.

Yep, all because of attention span starved yahoos like this guy:

AVATAR - 10/10 - I don't give movies a 10 often. There are too many people here that do that to several "geek" movies, but Avatar is not one of those. Saw it at the new AMC IMAX in OKC. The CGI is flawless. Nothing ever put on the screen compares to it. The movement of everything on the screen was amazing. It had a good story that kept you interested.

;) :)

Glad you spend your morning searching my old posts. :lol

Looks like you have a attention span issue too.

AVATAR 10/10

One of the top three sci-fi films of all time as far as I'm concerned.

And you throw aroun 9s and 10s too often.

Hey I wasn't ripping on the movie, but touche nonetheless. I don't rate it with ESB and Aliens anymore. Those two are still 10's. I'd give Avatar a low 8 now that it's had time to simmer.

What would you give it today? Still a 10?

FX = 10
Acting = 8
Story = 6

8/10 sounds about right now.

ESB 8/10
ALIENS 8.5/10

Does this mean 2 years from now The Hobbit will be a 3/10 from me.?????

Ratings are what they are. Tastes change and so would your rating. :dunno

12" Kenner Indy was the bees knees in 1981 but is ****ty figure now.

It more than just taste...It's not a Pizza versus Burger debate...The mindsets have changed...Technology changed it...video games,Computers...The faster the better is for many the motto of today

I don't know. I'm pretty consistent, actually. I think I gave it around a 7 or 8 (I honestly can't recall, but I'm sure someone can dig it up :lol) and it would be pretty much the same now.

Yep. A movie will either be strong enough to stand the test of time or it won't. Avatar either diminishes over time, requires a theater screen to truly enjoy, or both. Either way it was what it was in 2009 and it is what it is now. It's not like it dropped from a 10 to a 2.

I personally get no enjoyment out of sitting in a theater with my arms folded and brows furrowed trying not to get "too excited" in case I might change my mind later. I love enjoying movies to the fullest extent and if that changes over time then so be it.
