Just saw this today. To answer the op question, I would think hell no. All 3 of the Lotr movies were FAR better IMO. This movie is kind of a snoozer at a couple parts.

The quality of the film matters not, it'll make money because of marketing and hype.

I agree. WB has already invested $600 million into the Hobbit trilogy, the Dark Knight series is over with The Avengers guaranteed to be a Disney cash cow for a long time coming. I'd love to see Avatar and Titanic knocked out of the top spots but couldn't care less about who comes out on top between The Avengers, TDKR, and The Hobbit.

It'll make money sure, but not as much as the first did, a % of that money was from seeing it come together on screen for the first time, it's happened, it's been established so that money is likely not to return at the same volume from those satisfied and those who'll continue into sequels.

It all depends on how successfully they build up Phase 2. It has the potential to beat Avengers if done right.

Waiting for post X-mas so grandma can watch the munchkins for a few hours. Paid for a friend to take his ol' lady though so it got opening night monies. :lol

I'm going to check it out with the HFR for my second viewing but based on seemingly most of the opinions here I'd go for 3D 24fps for your first viewing like I did.

The 48fps was cool. It was a little funky at first but was cool after that. Honestly, I didn't notice a ton on the 3D so I could live without that part. All of my viewings outside of that 48 will be 24.

I know I will. I enjoyed the last trilogy and will this. I also think trying to compare it to Avengers or TDK is moronic as it's a completely different movie and not aimed at the general audience the other two are. :lol

Agreed ....although I know that the Hobbit deserves all of the success that those got

I'm just glad it was successful and don't care about counting who made more.

Avatar is still on top and will be for a long time.

Gone with the Wind is still the real #1 though. :lol

Only because of its age and the lack of home video during most of its decades of theatrical re-releases.

And modern movies are helped drastically by the number of screens available now.

No movie will ever sell as many tickets as GWTW.
