:dunno

He had too much unfinished work. I would've like to see him finish a lot of the stories that were presented in Unfinished Tales and History of ME.

Alot of that crap was written decades before his death or even retirement. Do you think a couple more years of life and he was going to visit his abandoned crap? :lol

Frankly I thought the changes only improved the story. I read the books only about a year ago, and I have to say that the movies are far superior. Tolkien had some great ideas, but he had a lot of crappy ones too (Sauraman trying to take over the Shire at the end of RotK :lol ). PJ just cut out the fluff and improved on what was left. I expect he'll do the same thing here.

I felt all along the Hobbit could be 1 film. Its only a 300 and some odd page book. Its not that big. 3 films? Under anyone else and it would have just been a cash grab. I trust him enough after LotR to do what he feels is right with these, so I'm not too worried yet.

I'm glad you're in the minority with this. I do think that if you had read the books prior to watching the movies, you'd feel much more differently.

Either way, I enjoyed the movies but I'm still hoping PJ doesn't take as many liberties with the Hobbit. Highly doubtful though.:monkey2

He was still working on his writing after retirement, so yes, he would've continued working on some of his "abandoned crap."

Really? he was in his 80s, he was his own biggest critic, it took him a decade before he was happy with LotR, I am sure most of his items that his son published were published only because Tolkien was dead, please enlighten me on what age you'd have him permissably die at. And people wonder why alot of big names hate their "fans".

At what age? Never! :lol All I said was that he died too soon given the amount of unfinished work he left. I can't say much about him hating his fans since he was very cordial and participated in many letters to fans. Besides, I wasn't even born when he passed away.:(

I wish Tolkien had lived even longer to creat more works. Also I've never heard he hated his fans.

DiFabio doesn't have fans and I'm guessing people that think Tolkien hated his fans just can't read. :lol

I dont think it will. IMO, Hobbit doesnt look that good or interesting on screen, not as good as what LOTR looked.

That and to be honest, it feels like a 'been there and done that' film, because theyve done it backwards IMO.

I'm not worried about more of the same, what concerns me is that the emotional climax for middle earth has occurred already with the destruction of the ring. I was invested in the journey to save middle earth, I hope I can connect again with this new set of movies.

See, hates his fans. :rotfl

Soon you'll be invested in Bilbo Baggins leaving his home and OCD's behind to help 13 dwarves in a quest to reclaim their gold and homeland from a big ass villain that catches people on fire.

On the way to this adventure, you'll meet "new" characters who are the pivotal characters in the destruction of the ring.

Hopefully, unless this movie sucks.
