That is a very flat faced Vader.

It is. And the shallowness of the grill angle really reminds me of the SSC DX though this helmet is much better overall sculpt.

It's really great that HT did the new sculpt, even if its not quite the bullseye everyone was hoping for. To me it's still a marked improvemnt over the previous HT Vader helmet, especially from front-on.

You really have to wonder if the idea to have one ESB/ROTJ sculpt was the problem - accomodating the split feature/Anakin head created the tusk rail joint and also possibly the shallower teeth angle.

This is also my position. Well said.

What would you know? You came out of light speed too close to the system.:dunno

I think that's been the problem from the start.

Also, this idea that ANH has no reveal, ESB must have the back of the head only reveal (even when mask-on is incorrect), and ROTJ must have full reveal. The toys created this concept. Excuses for selling three Vaders.

I would have been fine with swappable heads. In fact, I'd prefer it because I can see the reveal without having to change the head.

I don't see why it would be any kind of accommodation issue with the split mask feature. More likely is just that they were too preoccupied with that part to focus on getting the actual shape of the mask right. Or maybe they were using some bad reference material.

It could just be dumb luck that they got it so right on the 1/4 version, and that the sculptor assigned to it actually knew what he was doing. Lol

Here’s my deal. I had the ANH Vader but sold it due to inaccuracies and the features that I would never use. I currently have Anakin (which I love) and really want a Vader to go with him. Before this was announced, I was considering the Vader Tarkin 2 pack but passed once this came along. I’m kinda partial to ANH Vader, but don’t really care for the offerings (I’m not much of a modder). But at this point I just want a decent Vader. I like how this guy looks in most pictures. So I guess my main concern at this point would be are there any major qc issues to be aware of?

After this roller-coaster thread (which ain’t over yet) I have a feeling I’m going to get this Vader.

Dunno why. I’ve passed on everything until now (barring a custom I did — and sold — years ago).

But I feel like I need to have this one in-hand.

Only QC issue that I've seen that would actually bother me is the mask coming off exposing the no sculpt head.

If you like what you've seen I'd say buy it. I personally have been happy with 98% of the pics I've seen of this thing so I'm super excited to get him. I just hope that mine doesn't have that issue with the mask coming off.

The flat face also reveals why it doesn't look right from the front either. It means either the whole face mask is not extended enough forward OR the dome is not properly sculpted. And it's clear the side of the mouth triangle is too long horizontally and too short vertically and it also looks like the LOWER tusk tubing is also too pointed downwards so even it the tusk followed the lower tube it still would point downwards

Here's a side view of the EFX ANH helmet. I know it's not ESB but it should be very similar from the side .

Well.....after obsessing all day....I think I am going to buy Empire Vader. Empire was my first film I saw in a movie theater at age 4 and it changed my life. I don't remember a time before Star Wars. But Empire was MY movie. So I am selling my Rogue One Vader on ebay. Ugh....I need the Empire base and I need this Vader. I do think with enough futzing and possibly making his dome sit better (just a little lower) it will be good enough for 5-10 years when Empire Vader gets a new version.

I hope I don't regret this but Darth Vader from Empire is the version I want on my shelf. I do like the ANH/RO look but and the cape is so amazing the way it drapes....but I need Empire Vader. Sometimes I wish I had an extra arm on my back so I could punch myself in the back of the head.

The cape is one of the things wanting to make me keep the Rogue One no matter what. They may never do a good only like that again.

The head sculpt on the RO is also a bit off (too long neck and inaccurate dome shape) but a lot less problems I can see than this ESB

It needed adjustments to the inner robe straight out of the box. But once I got everything futzed to what I felt was a reasonable degree, I think he looks pretty good overall. Haven’t had much time to put him in different poses yet, just that one at the moment. Wish I had better pictures but our weather here in Hawaii has been pretty bad.
