Hallelujah!

Also, I hope they continue this simultaneous worldwide release trend.

Also the length on the limbs.

But no this is a SS ver 2 body. And I would argue that it has better articulation than some of the HTs.

Yeah that comparison shows perfectly why I’m not keen on this one. The head looks really off, even more so than the ANH ones, the body proportions aren’t right, and compare the size of the chest boxes as well. You can tell by the scale of the pauldron that it’s oversized. (The belt attachments are too but it’s not so bad)

It’s time for HT to overhaul their Vader

How similar are the RO and new ANH helmets?
From what I know, the RO/ANH V2 helmets are the exact same as the ANH V1 helmet..except the left cheek was tweaked to be smoother. Some people have claimed the dome is lower..but all of that varies from figure to figure.

In this shot the mouth does jut out:

Guys, how about we wait for some in hand videos or reviews to make final judgement? :wink1:

I must be seeing something different. In that pic, the tusks still seem angled too far down, and the mouth grill seems almost vertical - meaning that it doesn't jut out at the bottom.

As far as waiting for in-hand videos, we've already gotten a couple. You yourself posted an in-hand video, remember?

Another video with better quality.
No doubt now: this Vader is awesome!

I took some screenshots from that video you posted just to make my point clearer. Here's one of them with a similar angle of the actual movie Vader. My sense is that the mouth is too flat. Do you not see the difference between the two images?

And here's another screenshot with the timestamp so you can check the video for yourself if you'd like. I still think the "mouth" is off, and the tusks point too far down.

I'm not saying that people should re-think their pre-orders. I'm not even saying that the figure is bad. I'm just frustrated that Vader (such a central character) seems so elusive when it comes to getting the figure to look like the movie depiction. And $250+ is a lot (for me) to spend on something that continues to depict the mask inaccurately (kind of a big deal, imo). I could probably overlook other minor inaccuracies (and there are a few), but the helmet is just too critical to me to warrant the price tag.

It doesn't have to be perfect, but I don't want to be distracted so much by a feature that I'll just want to replace it. When I think of Vader, the helmet/mask is just about everything to me. Others might think of the overall costume, or just the intimidating stature of the character; that would make a less-than-accurate helmet not such a big deal. For me, it's so much about the helmet that what I want most is to look at the figure and think "now that's Vader!" This one doesn't quite get there for me from all the photos and videos so far.

But to everyone who's loving the figure that they're seeing, I'm really happy for all. I think that's awesome. I just wish I could see it the same way.

Yeah if anything, the piping and tusks should actually curve upward slightly at the end. These ones are not only angled too high on the sides, but then dip downward at the ends for some reason.

@ajp4mgs I am aware of what you mean. And I know we have two videos from Toys TV, which seem to confirm that. But I just don't think that those guys handled the "review" with care, proper light setting and video equipments.
But if it turns out that you are right, then I only can say I'm sorry that this isn't the right Vader for you...

Not perfect, but still pretty good parallels for a 1/6th. The mouth doesn't really look that flat, but find a bad enough lighting and it can look not great. I used actual images from the movie and figure.

This shot would confirm what ajp4mgs says.
Don't get me wrong ajp4mgs. If it's true, I would also be disappointed.
What I don't understand is, we got those promo shots since forever. Nothing changed. But then people suddenly have to tear this figure apart after it's released on day one :dunno

That's because many of us thought there was a chance they might make improvements. Now that we know this is what we're getting, we're free to nitpick and criticize like crazy. :D

Exactly what davejames posted above.

Those promo pics were just of the prototype figure, and things can change. The Boba Fett helmet changed after the promo pics, and improved for the actual production piece. In hand pics and videos are the first chance to scrutinize the final production piece.

And I don't see it as tearing this figure apart. This forum and these threads serve to collect opinions and information about the figures. That includes criticisms of certain aspects that some might consider nitpicky. And whatever flaws there might be won't bother everyone equally. Some of the flaws won't even bother certain collectors at all. But the more opinions, photos, videos, and information that get posted here (both positive and negative), the more informed people will be who are still trying to make a purchase decision.

This figure has only now just been released. We still don't have the full story. I'm eagerly awaiting comparison photos that show this figure next to one of the previous HT Vaders. That'll be the true test for me of what improved, or what got worse in terms of sculpt and scaling. I know exactly what I'm looking for, and what I'll specifically be disappointed with if my suspicions turn out to be true. But that's just me. Others will see things very differently. Either way, it's not a horrible figure by any stretch. The question is simply whether it checks off enough boxes to warrant the purchase. That will change dramatically from person to person.

Well the helmet/facemask looks way batter than the Rogue One that's for sure . I can see the tusk thing but it doesn't seem to detract from the overall look

Also if they have trouble just holding the dome in place on this one, imagine the ROTJ version with all the parts that come apartapart. It probably won't all fit and hold very well

Assuming they use this headsculpt for the ROtJ version i doubt it will be better

They should just go the same route as SS did with there's. Two separate heads. One with affixed Helmet and the other with the pieces removable..

Everyone knows when HT hits it out of the park: Yondu, Sparrow, Mk VI, Star-Lord, Tarkin...

Obviously, for ESB, everyone wanted that for Vader. But clearly, few have that same warm-and-fuzzy feeling about this. It's not a homerun. Could be a double. Which is a bit of a disappointment for Darth Vader.

That said, HT is putting all its 'homerun' skills into the ultimate reveal ROTJ Vader. You just know they are. And its likely going to be a DX. So in a sense, this one is just another 'filler' Vader until then. Another milked Dark Lord. Face it, that's what it is. Buy it, or do not.

He said DX ROTJ, but deep inside his soul he was waiting for DX ROTS Vader with KFC Hayden scuplt and operate table with medical droids
