Great paint up. No need to apologize. If I did one myself it would look like I used crayons

Agree with TonTon, that's a darn good paint app. If that hair was sculpted a little more detailed originally, I think a lot of folks would be using it.

Really nice work there! The head especially looks good in these first two shots. I got an original of that head and considered using it for my ANH Luke, but ultimately it just seemed a bit too large and lacking in detail next to my other SW figures. Although the proportions look pretty good on your ANH figure, so the recast must have been quite a bit smaller.

Thanks for the kind words, guys; very much appreciated. I'm still keeping fingers crossed that we'll see this recast get a professional paint job so we can see it's full potential. @Darth_IMPoor: yeah, the hair is my biggest frustration with the sculpt; you're absolutely right about how better detail would take it to another level. At first, the mouth bugged me a lot too, but I've gone back and found plenty of ANH Hamill pics that brought me around on it. @davejames: I don't have the original SSC head, so I can't do any side-by-sides to compare the size. You got me really curious about how much it could possibly shrink in recasting, though.

Gotta disagree with that and still reluctantly give that spot to the HT sculpt.
Put Superman S curl hair on that sculpt, and I personally think it’s more of a match to a Superman IV era Christopher Reeve than Mark Hamill.

Are you referring to the underlying sculpt itself? Or, are you factoring in paint app and hair detail? As far as paint app, Hot Toys wins by a mile (more like a parsec, actually); and the hair detail is clearly superior (though shape is another issue). The SSC is not a spot-on Hamill likeness by any means, but it at least has some resemblances. Sometimes the HT head strikes me as though it's a completely different actor they were sculpting. Here they are side by side.

Again, neither one are what we'd hope for in a Hamill likeness, so we're essentially deciding on "least awful" as opposed to "best." But you don't think HT's Luke sculpt would be mistaken for someone else more often than the SSC one?

I’m referring to the underlying sculpt itself.

And yes, I do think the HT sculpt could easily be mistaken for someone else, which is why I mentioned I reluctantly say the HT one is he best one so far. I don’t think there has been an accurate 1/6 ANH Luke sculpt yet, as you also mentioned, but I think the HT one is the best one available.

Fair enough. I guess maybe different facial features or expressions in these sculpts can just resonate more with one person but not with another. Either way, thank you for replying and clarifying.

No problem. :duff

As I’ve mentioned before in here, when you tilt the HT sculpt at this angle, it reminds me the most of this particular scene:

I think it’s mostly because of the somewhat squinted eyes that I’m seeing.

Its official, that painted resculpt is better, it passed the "Wife, who is this?" test, her reply been "that Skywalker guy", the HT head got "No idea at all...errr maybe a young Tom Cruise...really no idea"

Since I swapped my HT Luke's head to a Luke stormtrooper body (and added the SSC Red Five hair, which I was surprised by) I decided to go with the blast helmet display on the farmboy body. I like it more than I thought - it's a fun pose. Still need to dig out the HT training ball - this is the old SSC one.

Cool!
Has anybody swapped Bespin Luke's arm with Farmer Luke's light-up lightsaber arm?

Others have done it from memory. I tried, it seemed like it should click in, but I couldn't get it to work. One other issue is the Bespin outfit is pretty tight and it seemed like I might damage it.

I bought a couple of extra saber arms for my X-Wing Luke and Bespin. Turned out great. It’s easier on the battle damaged because the cuff is open. I had to cut the string on the cuff on the regular version and use a tiny magnet to keep the cuff together on both the X-Wing and Bespin.

The arms are very similar and compatible with most HT bodies.

Just pop the arm out and pop this one in. The last picture is what a regular HT body arm looks like. Middle one is the DX07 arm and the far right is the light up arm from ANH Luke.

I bend the elbow backwards a bit and it helps pop the arm out. The DX and regular bodies can separate above and below the elbow. The light up arm will not separate below the elbow.

Thanks!

By the way, has anyone ever made a new top for ANH Luke? I moved recently and finally took him out of the box last week and I used to love the figure but now I feel like his top drapes just as well as construction paper.

I just did. Have him set up with Vader. But I used the reg hairpiece on the BD Luke. Will try to post a pic soon.
