Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS298 - Star Wars: Episode IV - Leia Organa Collectible Figure

Having unrealistic expectations only leads to disappointment in the hobby imo
Well said. If more people were of like mind, we'd be better off.

Now, I know we all like to get the best bang for our buck, but there's a fine line between getting a quality figure and just being downright picky. And this is not directed at any one individual. It's just something I've noticed over the years and it kinda comes with the territory now.

Regardless, people are entitled to their opinion, of course. However, wanting flawless, 100 percent accuracy in this hobby is damn near, downright impossible. And Hot Toys is one of the few companies that even comes close, most of the time. Even they like to put a little artistic interpretation into their work. Otherwise, these may as well just be 3D printed figures.

At the end of the day, just enjoy your figures man! I still find the Sideshow Maul, Ben Kenobi and Qui-Gon to be great figures. Hell, I still have the older Takara Batman Begins, Medicom Jack Sparrow and Hot Toys MMS 117 T-800. I never upgraded to the "better" versions, because I was happy with what I had.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS298 - Star Wars: Episode IV - Leia Organa Collectible Figure

Perfect example is the Chewbacca they did. Even if I could get him at his original price I wouldn't buy him. He looks horrendous.

Chewbacca is the best figure they've made for the SW license, though some people may argue the Storm or Sandtroopers (or the upcoming Leia, but she's still unreleased). This Luke looked bad in likeness while in prototype and looks horrendous now that it's shipped. Han looked terrible in early protos, then they significantly improved the sculpt for release and to this day he looks far better in photos that he does in person - again something I'm willing to call "horrendous" in likeness and I got rid of the head from my Solo the week I opened the box.

Forget differences from proto, if you're going to contact Hot Toys ask them to look at some photographs or video footage of the movies so they can see what the actors look like before and while their people sculpt instead of just winging it from some faint memory or idea.

Hot Toys has the best production pipeline in the industry and achieve a great level of consistency. They just need an overhaul in their art direction - it's seriously lacking with the SW license, far too lax and whomever is approving these (at HT, not the licensor) just doesn't have the attention to movie detail that this license deserves).

Leia will be the first HT human SW character for which I don't plan to use a custom head.

I might give it to the Sandtrooper, but in terms of technical achievement, I'd guess Chewie takes it. The Leia prototype looks exceptional in terms of sculpt.

I'm not as unforgiving as you are, but I have to agree that they've delivered less than they're capable of -- so far.

That's the same way the Obi-Wan suffers. Looks good in person, but not as good as the prototype. You think people have ever emailed HT and griped about the differences? I know we all want these figs, but we should vote with our wallets. Perfect example is the Chewbacca they did. Even if I could get him at his original price I wouldn't buy him. He looks horrendous.

Really?! You don't know what you're missing; cell phone photos and flash photography don't do it justice.

I'm glad i'm easily pleased love my Hot toys Han n chewy. It is funny how some actors like Luke cant perfect. Then on other figure's look like could strait up come 2 life.

I'm not as unforgiving as you are,

It's all relative and surgical decapitation and transplant can remedy the whole if the rest of the parts are good.

I've seen all different photos of him. His face is way too dark. Look at any photo of Chewie and his face is very light with just a small dark "mustache"

Apart from the poor jaw futz out of box and less than ideal eye placement, the black paint application is definitely lack-lustre - but it's still workable and still a great figure overall. You can't do anything to their human head sculpts apart from putting them in a box or the bin.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS298 - Star Wars: Episode IV - Leia Organa Collectible Figure

Is this figure still heading for a January release?

I somehow found, in my wildest dreams, just enough room to squeeze Han and Leia (sorry Chewie) onto a shelf. In the meantime, Han has sold out everywhere now. I am not missing Leia though. Guess Luke will do, lol.

What year..?

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS298 - Star Wars: Episode IV - Leia Organa Collectible Figure

This month. Sideshow has it listed as Jan-Mar, 1st Quarter and all that. But other places seem to suggest January.

I haven't really kept up with the figure, but I can't seem to find any "early reviews" on Youtube. Typically, that means the figure is coming soon.

Leia would appear in HK on shelves just as SS's allotment is loaded on a boat to head to the US. We haven't seen in hand pics from Asia yet, so no. Not January.

She hasn't been released in Hong Kong yet and it's usually 4-6 weeks after that for a release from SS. Most people had their final flex payments for January pushed back to March. So March is most likely through SS and retailers that get theirs through SS.

Ah, good. I was looking forward to saving up a few paychecks. :)

I do regret not jumping on Han, when I had the chance, since I'm getting Leia now. At least I'll have her worshipfulness.

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS298 - Star Wars: Episode IV - Leia Organa Collectible Figure

Any updates on what the "exclusive" Sideshow backdrop diorama might be?

It's kind of odd they're waiting this close to release before revealing it. I'm debating whether to keep/cancel my Sideshow Leia order or go with another retailer(like BBTS or Timewalker).

Bash one. Get Inigo's new head sculpt (it actually looks like Ford/Solo) and clothes from TA/eBay, etc..

Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS298 - Star Wars: Episode IV - Leia Organa Collectible Figure

Piper, is there a place we can go to see you're custom/bashes? I'd love to see some examples of the level of figure that makes you happy.

Bashing one would cost about as much as the Hot Toys, at its current price.

I'll just wait for a re-release, as they obviously underestimated the demand. Or I'll just get the ESB version. Not a fan of Leia's look in that film, so definite pass there.

My feeling is we won't know until it releases in HK. It's bound to be pretty lacklustre, though. If ordering elsewhere is giving you some sort of significant advantage, I'd just do that.

Once Leia arrives, the circle will be complete. The ANH collection will be finito.*

*Unless there's a Hot Toys Tarkin and Greedo... :slap
