Re: 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS298 - Star Wars: Episode IV - Leia Organa Collectible Figure
Between shipping, sales tax and certain retailer's discount off MSRP, I could probably save $30 on Leia buying somewhere other than Sideshow (SSC).
Sideshow's sales tax and their high shipping fees (typically $10 for 1/6 Hot Toys), in particular, usually kills it for me. Unless it's an exclusive accessory that I really want, I usually shop elsewhere. Plus SSC, does not double box which increases the chances for damage. My Marty McFly shipment arrived crumpled - then you have to go through the hassle of requesting a replacement.
Like you mentioned, the backdrop diorama is bound to be pretty lackluster so I'm heavily considering cancelling the preorder at SSC. But I would like to see an actual visual of the final prototype before deciding. Luckily Leia did not require a deposit.
My feeling is we won't know until it releases in HK. It's bound to be pretty lacklustre, though. If ordering elsewhere is giving you some sort of significant advantage, I'd just do that.
