You could try these from the new rotj. I "think" the RO is a bit larger, but I doubt much difference in the pants

They don't have the top that would work, though, so I guess ebay would be the only option there
thanks. I didn't know that site, could be useful. I don't plan on displaying my RO anymore, only my RotJ so I'll be looking for more durable outfit than pleather down the line. Or another option is just get the pants and vest of the newest version every few years. The reason I posted this is that a week ago I thought it was fine and wasn't too paranoid about pleather peeling so it's kind of a wake up call. If I had known I might have even skipped the RoTJ because a 350$USD collectible that self destruct isn't good at all.

I'll still try the shoe wax just for fun.

Pants treated with black shoe wax and jacket still untreated. Looks close enough to pleather I think .

Looks ok to me, and for what little will actually show once you layer the tunic and cape, I'm sure it will look fine, look how little shows here.

Is the polish smell strong?

Looks good enough to me.

Now, that's not to say there's no shame on HT for using materials that don't have longevity.

While real leather may be expensive, something like nylon that could give the right sheen for Vader's suit and cost less than leather.

Breathing some new life into faded pleather seems like a feasible, acceptable option if $150 for real leather replacement isn't viable, which it isn't for me.

Like I've mentioned, at least Vader is a character where the leather isn't the "star" of his costume, so tricks to make the pleather work can be enough. For figures where the leather parts are a primary display element of the character, and in colors that may not exist in shoe polish, then they should figure out alternative materials, or use real leather and increase figure costs. It would suck to pay even more, but not as much as having a figure that's useless once the deterioration has occurred.

That's how I funded Vader, I sold my 1/4 T-800 before he starts to decay beyond being worth anything to anyone.

Yeah I agree the pants don't matter much in the big picture and the cape can cover most of the sleeves. As long as they look approximately ok and don't attract attention .The shoe polish made the under suit less "fabric like".
I would rather have it look like this out of the box than coated with a material that degrades over time.

I did consider selling it before I noticed the peeling to fund the RotJ but the buyer would have complained.

Yeah, the pictures don't change if you choose different figures. So price should be less for all the other figures since only the ANH MMS279 figure comes with additional bits.

And the metal chain may look nice, but it's completely wrong. For all of them I believe.

Odd why they would do that.

Is this the same suit that was offered a long time ago? How did that 'leather' last, I wonder?

Also, the fit looks a little loose -- like the original ANH Vader suit that made Vader look like balloon man.

And the boots are incorrect -- still square toed when they should be round for ANH, ESB and ROTJ.

I hope they break that set down further to just the 3-piece leather suit. That's all I want.

When I eventually start working on my custom ANH Vader using the TMG 3D prints I'm going to use a leather suit.

But I'm wondering how good this set will be for that. It does indeed look quite baggy, so I'd probably have to retailor it. And how much do the 1/6 custom sets from 2ouble8ight and Rise run, are they significantly more expensive that this?

This seems like a good "budget" option for a leather suit upgrade (I realize how weird that sounds given its almost 200 bucks), but I won't work on my custom Vader before 2026, so it seems like an unnecessary expense right now.

I also emailed them couple days ago, no answer yet. I started to get worry…
I am. I emailed and they said they only got a partial shipment, but I guess sent out invoices to everyone who had an order with them. They didn't offer any info on when their next batch is expected.

Nice! I'll probably order 2. One for ANH and one for ROTJ. There's enough there that I want to double dip a bit even though I have a real leather suit on my ANH already. The Rise customs one I have is nice, but I would like the real leather boots, belt and straps for the codpiece.

The hard part will be getting the ankles pegs out of the HT boots. They're stuck in there pretty tightly from what I remember.

Was there another widely available? I only remember the Rise Customs one and that's real leather that has lasted just fine. The worse part of that set was probably the replacement glove sleeves which this appears to be a bit better and the super thing leather straps they included that tore easily b/c they were so thin.

But I agree about how chunky this looking. Makes me wonder if it's a product of the body, the leather thickness or both? Wonder if it'll look better on the RO/OWK body

It may very well be the Rise one I'm thinking of. Sounds familiar.

Do you know anyone with that Rise outfit?

I'm not going to spend another $200 on a figure that will be replaced before its pleather falls apart. I have confidence in Artisan Vader or InArt Vader... or someone else.

I have the Rise customs real leather Vader outfit on my ANH figure and so far so good. I conditioned it with some Meguire’s leather conditioner before putting it on the figure and it’s held up great.

I hear you on waiting though for the next Vader, regardless who it’s made by. It’s a shame that they didn’t switch to the new nylon material sooner that darkside Luke and battle damage Vader use. I still maintain that the OWK Vader suit didn’t feel like previous versions, but there’s no actual guarantee it will hold up better/longer than previous versions.

I paid 180 + 30 shipping(to US) for 2 suits from 2ouble8ight. They give a discount if you order multiple

This was their version on the original ANH vader. It fits tight and is pretty stiff, so it has its plus/minus. I like that it's not as ribbed like the original and that other one for sale
