Why do we need stands then? Let's use magnets!

As long as the magnets are oriented properly, the object could me made to sit in one spot, assuming that the table doesn't get bumped or there isn't an earthquake. In that case, you would want it in a case, with a strip of clear silicone rubber around the inside of it, to prevent the object from being damaged from moving around too much.
However, magnets do lose their magnetism slowly over time. Rare Earth ones should be good for 10 or 20 years for this purpose, but beyond that, I am not sure. It would make a really neat effect for display, though. You could with enough engineering, make an electromagnetically operated landspeeder in a diorama setting that would go around an invisible track under the scenery, like a train set, or a slot car, without a visible track, that would hover over the ground and seem just like the real one. I suppose you could have little remote controlled jet engines on it, too, but because of the difficulty in turning it, it would likely need to be a completely straight track. If a person had enough money, I believe it could be done.

For those who don't know how this works, the electromagnet would repel the speeder from the ground, and would increase the magnetism to the magnet underground just ahead of the speeder, pulling it forward, and then that magnet reduces power to just enough to levitate, and a point ahead of that magnet is given more power, to draw the speeder ahead, and so forth, pulling the speeder around.

It is how a rail gun or a magnetic bullet train works. (because it is not cost effective to make magnets to keep a train on track all by themselves, and because of safety issues, an outside track that acts as a guide must be used, although the train does not actually touch the rails when it is running.)
I'm not sure if you were kidding, though.

The idea of magnets would be nice, especially if the landspeeder will be displayed closer to eye-level.

But for most applications, I think the mirror trick will suffice. At 1/6, the landspeeder will be big enough that it will hide its stand if placed in the center of the model. This is assuming that it is not hovering too high off the ground, of course.

What are we going to put in a 1/6th Landspeeder anyway? Just SSC Old Ben because he's cool? There's no good Luke's, and no affordable Droids?:lol

:goodpost:

When the Star Wars Exhibit came to Philadelphia in 2008 my friends and I saw it at the Franklin Institute. It was one of the first displays they had when you walked in. It stopped me right in my tracks. I was mesmerized by the sight of a 1/6 scale Landspeeder, plus it was the same one used in the production of the movie so it just added to the aura it gave off.
One thing that always striked me as being cool was all the figures were Steve Austin from the Six Million Dollar Man, just with different clothing and some touch ups on the face. It kinda took me back; in 1975/76 when they must have made this really the only 1/6 figure out there that would have fit were these Steve Austin figures. It made me more nostalgic and I loved it even more.

Late to the party on this, but just thought I'd point out, the Steve Austin Figures from the 70's were NOT 1/6 scale. Kenner in thier infinte wisdom, made them 13" tall not 12" as most standard 1/6 figures are. Steve and the rest of the line, ( Oscar Goldman, Maskatron) towered over GI JOe and especially Ken whose slightly smaller than 1/6 scale.

So the shooting model would/could be a tad bit bigger than a true 1/6th scale speeder would wind up being.

Alternate universe version: make a "crash scene" with burned bodies and husks of broken droids scattered about surrounded by your SS Sandtroopers high-fiving.

Best option is the "floating wheels" on the original Kenner toy :lol :lecture

Yeah good idea actually.:clap It's actually look cool with Raider's cruisin in it.

It's a bit like the Dejarik table, what are we supposed to do with that?:cuckoo:

The landspeeder was only ever seen with 2-4 set characters in it - there's not really any other obvious display option (other than Tuskens... maybe a passed out/very face-down SSC farm boy Luke...)

I'm assuming that SSC understands this and will ensure that new/updated versions of all four of those related characters will be either available or announced by then - by them or HT (and/or Tamashii...)

Without any doubt, there will be a HT Ben and farm boy Luke. That is pretty obvious. Only reason they didn't do farm boy first is they probably thought the UU Luke (which would have been pre-release) would nail it.

Real land speeder by the way...

Yeah Mark did a real nice job.

I'm only checking because I don't want to start my own only to have SS release theirs version a few months after I start.:pfft:
