Are they Mormon? My girlfriend is and her church requires them to keep enough food and supplies on hand for 3 months. There's actually companies that supply them. She showed me the catalog for it.

To be honest, I'm a woman pretty much alone. I'm screwed anyway you look at it. There's no way I could defend myself against a hoard of people.

Always have a "go-bag" (backpack) with a coat, at least a week's worth of non-perishable chow, a survival knife of some sort, a fire starter and a means of purifying water. Some rugged boots, an additional change of clothes, a rain poncho, multi-vitamins, vitamin C, and vitamin B (for the bugs) are also good to have in it.

I will also admit that trying to protect my home against a horde of people sounds a lot more frightening to me than trying to survive out in the woods. In the woods - most likely the cold/hunger/dehydration will kill me...but I'd still rather face that any day than an angry mob.

A have a small amount of emergency stuff...but it's not very organized..and missing a few of the things that Nam mentioned are good to have in a survival kit. Never hurts to be prepared...I probably will get on that sooner than later.

I guess my reality is that if there were such a riot and hordes of people (armed or unarmed) were going to try and break into my home. It would be game over for me. If Seattle turned into a war zone - I would simple get on a boat and go to one of the islands and try and survive there, finding my own food and making shelter. Would I survive for long? Who knows but I like my chances with that a lot better than trying to fight off rioters. If ____ really hit the fan...let them take my home, my possessions...it's all material and really doesn't matter in the big scheme of things. For someone like me, it makes more sense to flee than fight. Now if it was just one intruder breaking in...then I would fight. But I got to look at my odds..and I'm not going to try and be Rambo because that will most likely be the quickest way I get killed.

Now this is the scenario for my situation...not saying this applies or should apply to anyone else.

This is me as well, though I don't think there would be anyplace for me to flee. My goose would just be cooked.

for the most part I agree. If it were a day of rioting I would probably stay and protect my home, if it was some sort of governmental collapse and complete anarchy, I would run for the hills with my family.

Also might not hurt to add a $5 First Aid Kit in there. It's a space hog for sure, but if you're unfamiliar with treating injuries, it's a godsend. Sometimes a band-aid can do more good for morale than chicken noodle soup.

IMO, no matter what side you stand on guns, its past time to admit that ground won't and can't be made on that front in either direction and to start addressing the psychological and societal breaks that are causing and allowing this to happen on a more frequent basis. Talking about guns is really just a distraction from the major issue which is people increasing want to execute harm and to a greater degree on other people.

Thanks for that link....I am realizing that I am pretty unprepared. I'm going to need a damn big bag for cooking supplies, clothing, food, a tent, bed roll, sleeping bag, water, etc....
