Honestly the addition of Biehn and Henriksen, et al, was so late in the day I suspect it was all just a marketing effort to try to help mask the fact that they were stuck with what they knew was going to be a real stinker of a game.

Therefore getting original cast involved was a way to hopefully distract the fans and better give the illusion of this was going to be an a-grade release title, when it clearly was never going to turn out to be a-grade no matter what happened.

funny you should mention that, since the Wiki page said this too:

Gearbox’s CEO Randy Pitchford, speaking exclusively to Official PlayStation Magazine explained that the release delays were decided to include several actors from the 1986 Aliens film in the game. According to Pitchford, actors Michael Biehn (Corporal Dwayne Hicks), Mark Rolston (Smartgun Operator Mark Drake) and Al Matthews (Sergeant Al Apone) reprised their roles, while William Hope (Lieutenant Gorman) and Lance Henriksen (android "Bishop 341-B") will play two brand new characters (Commander T. Shannon and android "Rook" respectively). A marine character from Aliens called Wierzbowski will also appear, but not voiced by the original actor.

So Yes, the voices were probably distraction, completely. Even lying that the delays were because of the voices and not because the game was not ready.

In the games defense it's NOT "unplayable", but at the same time you don't need to read any reviews to know this game fell well short of anything remotely impressive... All you need to do is put the disc in and play it for yourself. As far as reporting Gearbox etc I think that's going to an extreme. I like the effort they made getting the voice of Michael Biehn aka Corp Hicks in the game and following very closely to the Aliens movie storyline. I mean they tried and IMO in some aspects it's decent but I definitely feel they missed the mark as far as "next gen graphics" etc, but it's still enjoyable to play as an Aliens fan. I'll just sit back and let the people who feel like they need to report Gearbox do their thing. I mean if the end result of this game is any indication of their work ethic they should be reported. In other words if we as fans from first person shooter games to Aliens fans were victims of the makers laziness and robbed of better graphics and cinematics etc then we were also robbed of our money. But it's not the first time a game of any type has disappointed me. I'd just return it if I didn't like it that much. I think people are over-reacting here. I think you have to have a little more than $60 invested somewhere somehow in this if you're going to report game designers, but like I said I'll leave that up to those people sit back and let it all play out. The chips will fall and the dust will clear. Right now it's just a lot of unhappy and disappointed fans.

I'm not for legal action most of the time but in this case....I don't know.

It's not the fact that it's a bad game it's the fact that it's false advertising! They demo it as a gameplay demo, much better in all aspects, they knew it was going to be a lesser product and didn't say anything or even hyped it up more.
For me filing with the BBB is not so much about punishing Gearbox but sending a message to the industry as whole because this practice is very common!

I don't know what happened with the BBB website but I went and click the "File Complain" button and they gave me a list of 4 choices, which had to do with other stuff that was more serious than just making a complain,
I couldn't file a proper complain, I don't know why, I don't know if they got so many complains they changed it or something. :dunno

Sounds like a real trainwreck. This kinda sucks, but I can't be too upset about it since this franchise seems cursed by the gods.

I do not think this franchise is cursed by the gods.
it is just cursed by inept, mediocre, ridiculous drug induced (probably:lol) management.

IF they got a proper writer and directors for AVP those movies could have been okay.
if they made up their freaking mind about Alien3 they could have released a good movie,
(I remember an interview with David Fincher where he says he was so naive thinking that a big movie studio wanted to release a good movie for fans, When all the studio kept telling him that as long as the movie breaks/ made its money back nothing else mattered.)

The franchise is just plagued by stupidity. How come there are other movies and franchises that are treated correctly and they succeed? because they have good caring writers.
Fox doesnt give a S---- about the franchise

Well I was referring to the videogames. The first two movies are two of my favorite movies of all times, and I'm perfectly fine if no other decent Alien movie is ever made. The new ones were derivative and pretty creatively bankrupt when all is said and done. The same has applied to the Terminator franchise, Star Wars prequels, the last Indy movie, Predators, etc. Abrams Star Trek was the rare exception of studios having the ***** to allow a smart, creative, fresh perspective to dictate how a franchise gets handled after years of the same old, same old rehashed copy of a copy. And it worked brilliantly. I would love to see that happen with some of these other franchises, but it's just the nature of the interaction of an old, beloved franchise meeting with stodgy, risk averse studio execs.

Funniest thing about this is going to the Gearbox forums on their site and seeing people apologizing for this POS :rotfl:rotfl

"No, no is not that bad, you just have to let it grow on you"

"I'm playing on Ps3 and it's still pretty cool!" :rotfl:rotfl
I'm reading the forum and those must be a pair of isolated voices, I see the people getting really angry and furious there. I guess that is because they have been following closely the delivery of news on this project more than anyone, over a span of years and years.

They even have been trying to contribute to the project proposing ideas and concepts, answering to surveys made by GRX about some aspects of the game, etc etc etc. These people are true fans who only wanted a nice Aliens game, GRX pissed them all over their face.

Must really hurt that after so many years of hype, finally getting this PoS (there are people there registrered in 2008 lol). Gearbox has a rebellion* (no pun intended) going on in their own forum.

GBX is gonna be paying the price for their tarnished image for some time after this one; 'great' way to burn a lot of customers and potential future customers

If i lived anywhere near gearbox studios, i would just gather some ppl who actually bought the game .. and then drop our copies of the game at their doorsteps in sign of our disappointment

Probably not that much
I don't know how much a company's rep plays into their future success. But for me, it's all about the finished product. If they make a good game, I'll consider it. If they don't, I won't. I don't really care how they behaved in the past or whatever. It isn't like they were stomping puppies.

That's also why I won't be filing a lawsuit or whatever it is people are trying to do--with videogames, particularly ones from cursed franchises--buyer beware. Wait until you see in-hand reviews, and then make a decision on whether or not to buy! Isn't that the rational move? If you don't have the patience to wait, then that seems to be the buyer's problem.

that's what made me laugh earlier so much, that there is a lot of hate on the forum but you always have the apologists ready to fire back. I did see a balance between the two, haters but I saw more than a couple of posts from people that liked and enjoyed the game trying to protect GB, maybe we were reading different threads but I saw just as many haters as the ones saying they liked the game.

But isn't that the whole point? False advertising, fixed footage...

Isn't it the exact same thing than when you see a Prototype and then the production piece is all ****ed up? At least with SSC you get full refund. Good luck getting a refund on a game you've opened.

But with videogames you don't have to pre-order to secure the game, as these things are produced out the wazoo. With SSC sometimes you do. I think that's an apples and oranges kind of comparison because of that. If you really felt a fear of false publicity but also couldn't wait for reviews then I would buy from a place like Amazon where I'm sure you would be allowed to return it if the product didn't match what was advertised. But even if the footage advertised was what you got, it won't necessarily mean anything. Game could look great but still suck. You have no way of knowing until it is played and reviewed.

Some reputation will matter, but people will still buy a game if it is something that interests them despite what things a developer might have done in the past. If Gearbox does a good game in the future, it won't do bad because of how mad people are about ACM.

I don't think anyone can file a suit, it would fail. Any footage they've shown before release will have some disclaimer about how it's not necessarily what the final game will be like.

Borderland 1&2 can kiss my hairy sideburns.
Good luck getting me to spend a cent on either of them....it'll never happen. :pfft:
