:lol So, with that said, my new personal law is: HT Aliens alien is a cool representation of the "dude-in-suit"... which is the one I like best. So there.

MAN LAW.
FREAKS LAW.
WOR-GAR LAW.
:lol

Man I wish I had the money to collect the Marines and get a few of these.

I've got a question though... I always though (by watching the film... one of my faves ever, so I'm quite familiar with it) that the Aliens were roughly human height.... 6 foot or maybe slightly (slightly!!) more... but these HT ones look about 8 feet tall.

someone fill me in please :)

This keeps getting worse and worse! :banghead

OK, now why aren't the Alien's hands posable?
If they are posable, then why the additional pair of hands?

PS
Darren Carnall, they are 8ft tall in the movies.

The Takeya model is a completely exaggerated design, HT doesn't look anything like it.

Hey guys, joining this discussion late due to the day job, but I just wanted to add my two cents about the "Takeya" alien. I happen to have one of the first alien resin garage kits made by Takayuki Takeya, (who is hands down one of the best figure sculptors in Japan), and it most definitely is/was an artistic representation of the xenomorph. It is very exaggerated, elongated, and spidery looking, but an amazing piece of work. The one pictured below was a prepainted statue that came out several years later entitled "Alien Pile". I don't have that one, but I'm in the middle of moving at the moment and I'll be able to dig out the Alien resin kit in a day or two (it's currently behind a ton of boxes in the storage room). I'll post a few pics in case anyone wants to check it out up close. If I remember correctly, it was based on Giger's alien design. Anyway, you can see for yourself when I find him!

It's interesting art, but if the film creature had looked like this, it may have been laughable.

That design would never have worked in the movie anyway, but it is a very inspired piece of art, more like a tribute to the xenomorph's creepy biomechanical gracefulness, if that makes sense. :D

Not having EVER been a fan of this upcoming Hot Toys ALIENS warrior, I still see so much compromise in it, that I am sickened by it, and am dissapointed by those that just worship it's less than stellar representation of the movie suit....

BUT...having one on order also, and getting one anyway, I am still excited about the notion of a somewhat cool, and yes, very Takeya-esque Alien in my collection, as I have no Alien pile kit. I really love that one too! Takeya is one of the BEST kit sculptors of all time to me. Ever! I met him in 1995, and it was like meeting Elvis to this artist. He was amazing.
He did some other kit sculpts that blew me away years ago, Devil man, Guyver, some wicked girl kits, so many others, and this Pile kit is legendary.
So, it sure isn't a bad thing to have a Takeya alien in the mix I guess...

I just am frustrated with Hot Toys. They hit or miss sometimes, and this is clearly a miss to my mind. They get it so on with Marines and the Powerloader, and then, the namesake of the movie is not accurate. It's like they think we are so hard up we'll buy anything they throw at us. Non-posable hands. Wow. Why? AVP got the dead on treatment, WITH posable hands. This version is WAY more favorited, and is less....

Anyway, I can go on and on, but won't. I will be glad to have mine. And, rubber or no, mine will be as extensively repainted as the material will allow. You can bet on that.
At least, in these early shots, they have painted on that wild camo pattern that was indicative of the ALIENS color scheme. It does look pretty close, even if there was more boney color in the ribs and details (which mine will have when done!), but all in all....at least it's coming out at all.

So.....

Until it's in hand....

I guess I am happy for you guys that don't have any ALIENS warrior versions at all.
Oh, and in the movie, the stunt guys did not try to look 8 foot tall. They were just regular size. But, they are SUPPOSED to be like the first one. Seven to Eight feet at least. So, whatever. It gets confusing trying to get the scales right watching it all. Some willing suspension of disbelief is required to make it all work.

This is what Hot Toys could have done....

This is what they SHOULD have been....only one step removed from the Giger original.....

The puppet..

The costume...

The colors are about right. Boney and black. No blues.

Anyway, back to the reverie. Don't mean to rain on any parades. Just irritated some.

PLEASE HOT TOYS! if you make one at all...take your time on the Giger one!
Please get it right!
That's all I can hope for.

I love you.

You're one of the few who understand my agony.

And don't you dare agree with him now after what I had to go through. :emperor

I didn't want to go on too much about Takeya-san, but he's easily my all time favorite sculptor, period. I have a collection of some of his nicest works in both resin and vinyl, which are among my most treasured items. One of these days I may post some pics so people who aren't familiar with his work can see what we're talking about. It might be fun to discuss Takeya kits with you some day, I'll bet you have some real nice ones too.

Btw, I've met both Takeya and Nirasawa, (another very talented sculptor and illustrator) at one of the Wonderfests in Toyko way back when, which they attended fairly regularly back in the day. I was just wondering if maybe you met him in Japan. Wouldn't it be strange if we had both been at the same place at the same time all those years ago? Stranger things have happened!

I think everyone understands the argument and let down of the figure not being 100% exact replica of the film creature, but for a lot of us, it's just about a kickass figure of the Alien and the core look is there and the craftsmanship on the figure is stunningly beautiful, and with a creature, there's a bit more room for acceptance of artistic license on the details where with humans, it's the details the truly define the individuals. An extremely casual fan of Aliens probably wouldn't even notice the dome difference between Alien, 3, Resurrection and AVP from Aliens and upcoming AVP2. I am a little bummed it isn't a perfect match like the snap kits, but I still think it's a badass figure, and since I never fully knew what the suit was like prior to getting the DVD and reading this board over the last several months, I had no expectation of what this figure should appeard like other than the slimmer feet, the hand configuration, and the domeless head. As off as this may be, at least they didn't go the McFarlane route, what a waste of a figure that was.

Actually, I think the McFarlane figures are awesome interpretations!
The detail is stunning. Too bad the articulation was not very cleverly designed, but for a 25 dollars figure, it is quite stunning in its own right...

Anyway, here's a couple of shots of one of Takeya's best known sculpts:

This discussion is getting really tiresome, bordering on annoying. If you don't like it, don't buy it... stop raining on everyone else's parade. We all knew what to expect six months ago when Howard Chan and the HT Design team responded to OUR queries, yes ours... we took a shot (me included) pointed out the differences to them re: accuracy but it was too late... and that's the end of that. Thes rest of this is nauseatingly beating a dead horse... We know. Okay? Got it? We know... move on.

We had this discussion eons ago FB when the proto pics first came out, most of us accepted some design changes had been made. Some of us (including me, abake) wrote to HC and the HT design team to point out the differences but in the end, so many Warrior variants were used in the film (danceskin, etc) we were all just hoping HT would produce a cool looking fig and they did.

And abake, I love those shots... thank Bro and thanks for writing to HT with me and a few others. SIX MONTHS AGO. LOL.

Maybe you don't own the ALIENS 7 inch figure to know what I'm talking about. McFarlane's versions of the ALIEN warrior are great, but with the ALIENS 7" version, they shortcutted and changes a few limb pieces from the ALIEN version, but not the whole, so the details didn't line up and it just looked bad other than the fabulous head they made. That's my issue with them, the half assed construction method on ALIENS warrior.

What's gong on with this bendy hands issue? Did someone say they weren't? Who said this? Do they have a kit?

I'd like to know...
