Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Well that is a good point. I am not sure how much it would matter.. The scene plays a lot for laughs at anyways.. So I don't know if it really matters.. Its not like its going to effect the events that are about to happen or lessen the drama of mom dying for Past Thor.

Like I said I wouldn't be opposed to seeing how it played out. Maybe it wouldn't throw off the drama of that scene. I just really liked him getting to talk to his mom and aside from losing BW and Tony him getting to do that almost makes up for him not originally going for the head.

Thor snatching Mjolnir right out of his younger self's hand definitely lends itself to a confrontation even more so than Cap simply bumping into himself by accident so I guess I could take or leave either scenario and would be happy with which ever option played out better on screen.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Hmm great point e30ernest about the Hulk snap being Banner's ultimate closure with himself. Ooh I didn't even think of that. I came away thinking he was denied closure with another character like everyone else got but as JAWS often points out he *is* two characters isn't he. So his "it's like I was born for this" or whatever he says is Banner's brain and Hulk's brain coming together for the ultimate heroics and in all seriousness as far as single acts go nothing in superhero history really compares to bringing trillions back to life. I think that's totally what they were going for and as of now the film has one less nitpick for me, lol.

I still contend that Hulk's brain has no say in any of this.. Hulks brain would probably agree.. Especially when trying to bring back BW along with the rest of the lives.

There is a way they could have played with Banner's and Hulk's personalities but that would have made it a 3.5 hour movie.

Regardless with my second viewing I have no issues with the lack of Hulk.. Well I do but I am willing to accept them.

What Banner did was massive and he could not have done it without stealing from Hulks power and Strength.. But Hulk IMO gets no credit for this.

If it was able to play out well then it would have been great..

Like I said.. I am don't want to appear negative or coming after Cap.. Especially after my frustration with the Cap porn in the movie.

I did not feel that way with the 2nd viewing and like you said Khev, I was kinda surprised how much Cap was not the focus as I thought he was after my first viewing.

Most importantly with regards to my enjoyment of this film.. I can go back and watch all other movies and have no bitterness towards Cap :)

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

All are excellent points.. I really cant argue with any of them.. Other then Leave Hulk's name out of it.. This is all about Banner :)

I still would have like to see some more fun with the New Your battle and a Thor vs Thor scene..

Do that and I would rate this film as almost perfect.

The moments you mention are all there.. But for me anyways.. Accept for a few moments lacked the drama it was trying to capture.

Its there but its all subtle.. Which works sometimes..... But could have worked better. Comics don't tend to be all that subtle :) For example.. I would have liked to see a bit more of that Steve / Tony friendship being mended.. Its been a long time since Civil War..

Great read though and great points. Like I said I cant really argue with any of them.. Just thought the could have been executed a little better.

Thanks both of you. :hi5:

Would really love to see some case studies and video essays come out of EG and the Infinity Saga as a whole. The MCU team really dug deep into their mythos with EG and gave some really compelling character arcs for these heroes over the span of 22 films. It's an amazing achievement and much respect to them for achieving it and being successful at the box office too.

Initially I thought Cap was the focus too but on my second viewing I realized how much of this was dedicated to Stark. I mean, the most of the characters had their fair share of the limelight (ok except Hulk...) but the character that got developed the most IMO here was Stark. It just feels like a Cap-centric film because Cap got the final scene.

On hindsight, it makes sense for Stark to get the most development since he dies at the end.

Glad to see we don’t have a TLJ situation here with JAWS and that he likes EG.

Don’t worry JAWS I see a Hulk Abomination rematch in Phase 4 something is going to make Hulk rage out of his Banner persona we’ll know soon enough after Spiderman right.

Good job on the Hulk analysis E30 much appreciated, I expect a full report on my desk by noon today followed up with an Excel spreadsheet and PowerPoint presentation lol

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Lacks energy.. That is a good way to put it..

Now don't get me wrong.. I very much enjoyed it the 2nd time.. But it lacks energy at times.. Mostly during the 2nd act.

I love the first act so I would change nothing there. Its mood is perfect.

The 2nd act was better the 2nd time. But yeah. It lacks energy.

It might make the most sense for Cap to fight Cap... But its also the least interesting.. It seems the 2nd act had all the least interesting choices and moments.

There are good parts for sure though.

Chiming in a bit late here, but I think where Cap vs. Cap worked best was in the humor department. I think it clicked with audiences because it upended expectations by giving Cap the funny lines ("I know, I know", "That IS America's ass", "Bucky...is..alive!", even the "Hail Hydra" line that preceded the fight). Cap has typically been the straight man, so it was a refreshing change of pace. The same with Thor getting a poignant moment with his mother rather than a continuation of the Ragnarok style comedy. IMO more of the same would have felt like too much by the numbers storytelling.

Shhhh take it easy on post traumatic hulk disorder JAWS let him have his Thor v Thor fantasy he’s just coming around to liking Endgame of course we all know Cap vs Cap made better narrative sense but just go along with his wishes.

Oh gosh JAWS yes Thor v Thor ABSOLUTELY would’ve been better than Cap v Cap.

I'm picturing you and JAWS like Thor and Star-Lord at the end arguing over who's in charge.

JAWS: *fake nervous laughter* "Heh heh heh heh we don't need to knife anyone"

jye: *laughing* "Yes there will be no knifing"

JAWS: "Because we all know Thor vs Thor would be better than Cap vs Cap right....?"

jye: "Oh yes of course. Of course" *whispering* "Of course"

lol

Thanks to Endgame triggering a bit of nostalgia and curiosity I've skimmed past films lately. Had Iron Man 2 playing in the background the past couple of days. It doesn't come up on a lot of people's lists but I *love* that film. Especially given what's to come it's so lighthearted and fun. Just puts a smile on my face. Really easy to suspend my disbelief and ignore the film's weaknesses because it's a joyride.

perfect!

Dude let me tell you Thor’s very very very last “of course” has to be one of my favorite comedic moments in all of the MCU.

I also enjoyed his “I am so from the future” line to his mother lol

For me personally the humor in EG felt very much more organic belonging to the Russo’s vs the Russo’s trying to mimic Gunn humor in IW if that makes any sense.

It just flowed better in EG even with the other characters but Hemsworth is obviously very talented when it comes to humor delivery I mean he even made portly Thor work!

Yep Hemsworth's humor is a real highlight and I agree his final "of course" is so awesomely hilarious and patronizing, lol.

I really hope Thor remains with the Guardians for GOTG 3. I have to assume he will, but I suppose things could change.
They really fit together so well, and watching Hemsworth and Pratt play off of each other is a treat.

Big time patronizing yes lol

Since EG I’ve been trying to walk into a situation or create one myself where I get to use “of course” like that lol

I've got to hand it to the Russos. Not only are superheroes inherently silly as a concept but Marvel's superheroes are some of the silliest and they really got me to buy into the drama. The quiet character moments just feel so authentic and not at all "comic book-y."

I'm particularly impressed with Steve and Tony's reconciliation. Instead of being an overdone singular moment they had the big blow up back at the end of CW, then two years of them being separated until Thanos came, then when they finally meet Tony vents two years of resentment plus the additional anger of their rift possibly being responsible for Thanos' victory ("I got nothing for you, no coordinates, no trust. LIAR." Damn. Then five *additional* years later when the heroes go meet Tony at his cabin they still don't fully reconcile but at least are on friendly terms before Tony finally rejoins the team at Avengers mansion.

Then in the NY alley their trust is put to the test with them both agreeing to support the other for the detour to 1970. Man talk about an earned journey back to friendship between those two. Not exactly the instant reconciliation because of a single hand-written letter now is it, lol.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Yep remember the marvel haters they were like “The cell phone olive branch from Rogers to Stark ruined it!” lol

Stark never even got a chance to use it did he.
