Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

I'm not saying Endgame will be the best film of 2019, but to dismiss it on the grounds that it was created to make money is asinine.

No studio puts out a film to intentionally lose money.

Not a single Oscar winning film was made by a studio that just threw money at somebody and said, "do whatever you want, just don't make a profit. All we care about is pleasing that ********* Director"

I agree.. Nobody wants to lose money.. I do think some are made for Oscar grabs and then hope to make some more profit when it get the Oscar street cred.

EG IMO just wasn't quality enough for an Oscar nom.. Well maybe nowadays it is.. 10 film nominations is stupid.

Black Panther got the nod which is a joke when IW was released the same year.. But we know what the Academy was doing there.

Oscar's are dumb anyways.. Have not watched the Oscars since Return of the King won.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

I can't think of anything that EG would actually win an Oscar for since IMO Alita was superior in all the technical categories. I'd love to see the score possibly recognized though, the funeral theme is one of my favorites in any superhero flick.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

Like ROTK, could EG get a nod for the entire MCU of the last 11 years? It would never win, but the nod would be Hollywood's wink of acknowledgement.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

You know maybe, especially with the dismal ratings the Oscars have had the past few years. I could see it getting a BP nomination just for that alone.

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

The MCU (and Feige in particular) really should get some sort of Achievement Award for executing a very long-term plan and sticking to it... something Hollywood rarely does, let alone does well.

I think, in a desperate attempt to get viewers, it will definitely get a nomination.

Other than ROTK I don’t think I own one Best Picture Winner from all of Oscar history lol

That’s what I think of the arts!

You can keep your boring english dramas i’ll keep my Die Hard and EG.

Indeed, such long series are rarely planned and very often poorly handled and this definitely is an achievement to acknowledge.

Rocky? The Silence of the Lambs? Gladiator? Forrest Gump? None of those?

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

No Braveheart fans in here? I know that Mel is a nutjob, but that movie is still a guilty pleasure of mine ... and it won Best Picture.

Back to Endgame ... I wouldn't be surprised at all if it receives a Best Picture nom. As others have mentioned, it would be more as recognition of the entire MCU and what it has accomplished. Feige deserves an honorary Oscar just for that alone.

My wife and two daughters have to go to a bridal shower this Saturday, so my little man and I have decided to see Endgame again. And I can't wait.

I love Braveheart. Had it on laserdisc but never got around to repurchasing it on any newer formats. I probably should check out the 4K.

Well I was specifically pointing out Best Picture wins.

I own those 4. They all won Best Picture?

Re: Avengers: Endgame (April 26th, 2019)

I don’t follow the Oscars or any awards very closely.

The whole thing kinda goes over my head most of the time.

Mel Gibson is a lunatic, turns out. But I always did love Braveheart. Haven’t seen it in years.

I’m told the battle scenes weren’t historically accurate in terms of tactics. Which I guess makes sense given the need for a visceral cinematic experience. Haven’t researched medieval warfare in ages though. Not sure who’s right at this point.
