No, but I did a few times when I was younger and I don't have a problem with people doing it in moderation (like drinking).

No reason it should be illegal, imo.

And holy crap blackthorneone... I gotta wonder, how's your sex life? ;)

This is true, and I'll even take it further by saying you could go to a bar/lounge at any time during the day and find someone drinking. When I had to go to Biloxi last year to get my background check done at the police station they were talking about how one of the nurses at the hospital just got a DUI because he went down to one of the casinos and had a couple of drinks on his lunch break.

Can believe it.
Drinking is acceptable socially where smoking a joint is not in most places.

I was watching a programme last night of brits in tenerife where you can get moody vodka at 80pence a shot.

Was'nt pretty:(
And in the uk beer and cider is so cheap to buy at supermarkets that the young are easily allowed to drink underage and actually encoraged by their peers to consume more than their friends.

This leads to a lifetime of misery.
My sister is an alcoholic and a waste of space and I have nothing to do with her as the drink has made her bitter and twisted.

Now I'm not preaching but I have been drunk and stoned and I know I'd rather have a stoner than a drunk in my company.

A drunk is more likely to be aggresive as it is a depressant and when overdosed on, it leads to vomitting and sometimes death.

All being stoned will lead to is overconsumption of cake and talking rubbish followed by them falling asleep.
Yes cannabis has a downside to which I've experienced first hand but lets get it right.
Even bill clinton inhaled and he has got to be one of the most popular presidents today.
If more politicians had a smoke then things might be less stressed.

Btw jim lahey :hi5:

Honestly I think obesity is a worse epidemic in the US right now.

Dude, you aren't kidding. I just got back from the food court at CNN Center. Let's just say that CNN would not even have to walk out of their own building to get a glimpse of fat America in action. :monkey4

(Nothing against CNN... all domestic food courts are filled with pigs eating junk food slop)

Move to the USA specifically the west coast. Its legal in Oregon, and washington without precriptions, and in California with prescriptions (however everyone has a prescription or can easily get it- I mean almost any medical condition from a sore back to anxiety qualifies). I'd say in some places here its more acceptable then drinking. Lol at the giants world series celebration the aroma is everywhere and cops do nothing. However if they saw you with alcohol in public they would cite you. Also cops don't really cite for pot anymore because of fear of lawsuits since everyone has medical prescriptions. You can smoke in public (although I don't recommend doing this) with prescription, u just can't smoke while driving!

The only reason pot is illegal in most countries or even states is because the government hasn't figured out a good way to tax it, and unlike tobacco its very easy to grow. Therefore government fears people will grow thier own and thus not stand to generate enough tax revune on its sales to justify the potential negative impact it could have on society. This is the only reason the government allows the sale of tobacco products to continue, even though its one of the most deadly substances

We are the only species that saves the weak and doesnt let natural selection weed out the sick and weak.

I just want to say that this statement makes me angry.

For some. Not all.

But overall I agree with you. It's ridiculous that one is legal - and even socially encouraged - and one is not. And prohibition, the "war on drugs", etc. has proven that making marijuana illegal is one huge failure.

And of course, we're not even taking into account the vast amount of completely legal, over-the-counter and prescription drugs that have some pretty terrifying side effects... How many people die from drug overdoses again? Uh-huh... and how many from "legal" drugs vice marijuana? (Heck, I'd even wager to say it's higher each year than overdoses of heroine, meth, etc...)

Glad to see Trailer Park Boys fans in the UK. :hi5:

I think this "obesity epidemic" is a bit overblown, too, to be quite honest.

Certainly, there's a problem with some people - but how much of the "epidemic" nonsense is based on BMIs?

There was a recent study in Canada that one in four of us were "obese" - and of course it was based purely on BMIs. Ever since I read that I've been looking around at the people at work, in the mall, whatever, and I just gotta assume it's BS.

And yeah, technically I'm "obese" because I'm 6'1" and 260 - and yet I run 6.75 kms (6 in 30 minutes, plus cool-down) 4-5 times a week and have ZERO health problems (not even high cholesterol or blood pressure), except some very, very minor arch/feet problems that only became a problem after doing a 3-month land combat course (and yes, I finished and am still in the military - with proper inserts in my shoes it's not a problem anymore). I run faster than 90% of the "thin" (i.e. "healthy") people in the gym (and go to the gym far more often than anyone else in my office, for that matter). I don't do weights currently but I have for most of my life since I was sixteen. Sure, I'm still overweight - but not a fat pig by any means and I'm starting to resent this whole "crusade" against anyone who's not a size 32 waist.

Sorry, had to get that off my chest. :)

its a HUGE problem. Pun fully intended.
Annual physicals should be mandatory with the results of those physicals dictating that individual's health insurance premiums for the year ..... :monkey1

:lecture I was also in the military, and got tired of this type of mentality. We went off of the height/weight measurements, and based on my height they wanted me to lose 20 pounds. Then they'd tape test me, and I'd have a 32-33" waist. I never failed a PT test while in the Army, and I typically averaged 285 out of a 300 score.

This is the most recent information I could find on primary causes of death globally. (I think it's interesting that cancer only makes the list in high-income countries.)

https://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs310/en/index.html

Good info, but this really should be considered with average lifespans, as well.

If more people are dying of heart disease and strokes at ages 65-75 in developed countries, vice more people dying of AIDS and diarrhea at ages 30-40, that's hardly an "epidemic".

Where you spend your day will shape your opinion of the obesity epidemic.
