I haven't been around the Freaks board very much in the last few months, but I do check the posts here every once in a while.
I'm always very interested in a "quit smoking" thread, so I thought I'd add my 2 cents.
I started smoking as a teenager and it ended up being a habit that I carried with me for more than 30 years. I tried quitting several times, always cold turkey. Sometimes I lasted for a few days, sometimes a few weeks, once I even lasted 3 months, but my downfall would always be when I would be in a social situation where I told myself it was OK to have just one. It doesn't work. You will always start smoking again, just a few at first, but eventually you will be right back where you started.
The only way to truly quit for good, is to never, never have another smoke, ever again. Don't let your smoker's mind convince you that you can have one, "just this once".
I quit forever, almost 6 years ago. I feel better now than I did 20 years ago.
If you can get through 3 days, make your next goal 3 weeks, if you make it to there, make your next goal 3 months. As time goes on, your cravings will become less and less. After a few weeks, you will go for hours without even thinking about it. It will surprise you, when you haven't thought about it for a whole day.
Be determined. Know that if you are serious about quitting, you can never have another smoke again.......period.
If you can do it, you will never regret it.
I wish you the best of luck.

I have followed your word sir! I am reading back on this and still cannot believe the battle I have fought. 3 months is coming up! Arrrrggggg! Long live the Fighters. Oh crap I just stole that from some movie. LOL! :D

Thats like saying I shoot myself in the head but did it cool. Dark I hope you are able to quit. I will not say you are a bad person for not trying though. It took me a while to be ready. If your not then just wait. Just don't wait to long.

Wow, I just noticed the date! It has been three months smoke free. I am never going back. But I guess I should update on my progress. I now go outside at work to talk to friends I know that smoke. It doesn't bother me one bit. If anything I notice how much it smells. What gets to me every once in a while is watching a movie where people are smoking. It looks like I would enjoy one again. I think it is because I can't smell them and they always look so happy and cool smoking. Just like Chase. LOL! Other than that I am still commited. I think that helps alot. So that's pretty much where I am at with the smoking. I will keep you updated as always.

Just thought I would check back in. As it stands Chase still looks to damn cool with a cig in hand to quit. :D As for me, Friday will be 4 months. It still has not been easy but I am still commited. My gift to myself is I have decided is Lasik surgery. On a side note I will be documenting that venture as well but not here. Ok back to not smoking. I still, believe it or not get that urge to smoke. Every once and a while it comes and then quickly goes away. I still have not totally lost my morning cough and that is kind of annoying. I am still waiting for that to go away. Only time will tell there. Seth I hope you are still hanging in there. I know it is rough. Anyways more to come about the Lasik and I will be here on the 5th month with a positive status report. Thanks again Freaks for listening. Without you support there is no way I could have done this. I didn't post when I broke a thousand posts because this was the more meaningful to me. So basically consider this my thousandth post. LOL! :chew:D:chew

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it takes 7 months for the lungs to regenerate... maybe 3 more months before the cough goes away...

Good on you man. :clap

Keep going!!! I was surprised at what I could afford to treat myself to, having quit. I went and got the teeth-bleaching thing done, kinda to make up for all of the grime I coated onto my teeth while smoking. Congrats on the lack of smokes, and the 1000+ posts. Cigarette or not, much cooler than KD:rolleyes:

Ok well time for an update and I guess no news is good news. I must say there still are plenty of times I want to light up but still have not. Here is to 5 months smoke free! It has been hard.

Congrats on the 5 month marker BadMoon! It's been years for me since I quit, and stressful days are still tough. I just try to talk through it though. I used smoking as a way to get away from stress, five minutes without having to deal with coworkers, etc... Once I realized that, I saw that I could still take five minutes of downtime for myself, and just not smoke, it got a lot easier. I thought the smoking was the stress relief, but it was the time I took to be by myself and think that was relief for me. Maybe this helps, but you'll always get my support!

Cheers!:chew
