GIMLI Customs...

Here's an old shot I took of the DiD "Timo Ducca" Hitler Youth figure and Frodo to show the difference in proportions. Judge for yourselves, but it looks to me like the boy figure will still require a fair amount of frankensteining to turn him into a Dwarf.

For anyone not satisfied with using the DiD Gimli body, then modding a hobbit body might be the best way to go. Maybe adding some height to the legs and beefing up the torso with a "fat suit" of some sort would do the trick.

I don't plan to display my DiD Gimli with the hobbits, so I'm not too concerned with screen accurate proportions. Cutting 1/4 inch out of the DiD figure's thighs should give me the height I want for displaying him with Aragorn and Legolas, and sounds easier than some of the other operations being discussed.

Ugh.... they should really have spent the extra pennies to make some kind of rubber shin piece to go over the poor hobbit body's lower legs...:(

Well, they are what they are... unfortunately. I'm eventually going to split the leg halves apart and sand them for a better fit, then glue them back together so there's no more seam. I think that will help tighten up the ankle joints, too.

I think modifying the Hobbit body for Gimli is probably the best way to go, if price isn't a big deal.

Personally, I don't want to spend another $70 (or even $50 with a GF) just for the body though. I'll suffer with the altered DiD body for now...and maybe switch bodies someday down the line when I can get one cheap.

Now that I've looked at it some, I think the DiD body is more serviceable than I thought. With the costume on and properly futzed, the shoulders will look fine. A little slice mid though to reduce the height a tad and bingo. I looked at the DiD costume on the Hobbit body and it just didn't look right, which I suspected. Gimli should be more barrel chested than the Hobbits anyway. Plus, it's much easier to reduce the DiD a bit, and not to mention cheaper, than increasing the Hobbit proportions.

The Hitler youth body is the exact same body as the DiD Gimli - thus too tall.

As for the hobbit shins - I heated them up and then held them together under cold water. Didn't work too well and seems to have permanently softened the knees. I used putty to fill the seam and then painted the shins and feet - I'm much happier with them - the different color between feet and lower leg was bothering me more than the gap.

Since he was closer in height to the hobbits than the others, I'm going to see what I can do with the Cpt. America body. It's considerably more muscled than the TB body he's on now and will ad more bulk to him. I picked up one of those Soldier Story fat suits to help with shaping him out in the waist area.

I think with some cutting and sewing the DiD body will work fine.

I agree. I don't feel the need to go all crazy with this project. I got the TB figure for $8 and a DiD for $20. Now I'll take the two and work with them to create a decent 1:6 Gimli I can live with whether or not SSC ever gets around to making one.

I would like to get an extra LOTR stand, though. Does Toy Anxiety have anymore?

That's pretty much what I've been thinking all along. I'm still not thrilled with the TB head on the DiD body, though. The sculpt is decent and I really like the removable helmet, but the beard doesn't look right to me... too short, too smooth, and a little too symmetrical and stylized... to me, anyway.

Dwarves were all about their beards, and Gimli deserves a better one, imo. As much as I dislike the idea of having to sculpt a new one for the TB head, it may be the only way to achieve the look I want, which would be something in between the DiD and TB beards.

I believe Sideshow would've made the ultimate Gimli and I still have a degree of hope, however small, that they will someday. :p

Yeah they do. I just got mine in the mail from them saturday morning. :D

That's essentially what I did save the $12 shoulder armor :rotfl. The only thing I used from the DiD were the axes and may end up selling off the complete dressed DiD body with the plastic axes from the DiD itself, the rotocast and the ToyBiz.

Its a real shame about the pace of the LOTR line but I love seeing you guys work around that and providing your collection with a custom Gimli. Congrats on perfecting this guy!
