Flash seems to be going out. Here's one with the bottom maile and it needs a darker wash.

Thanks, dwing.

What bottom maile is that?

Is it just me, or does the ToyBiz Gimli head look too small for the DiD body?

I don't have the DiD yet, so this is just my best guess from all the pics I've seen, but here's my intended plan for the bash:

DiD
Clothing
Boots and gaiters
Body
Axes

ToyBiz
Head and helmet
Sculpted gloves and gauntlets
Chainmail (temp until I find real maile)

I was planning to use the ToyBiz boots as well, but the DiD ones look better in the pics I've seen, more in scale.

I don't like the DiD gauntlets, so making the ToyBiz ones fit is imperative.

The headsculpt is a real tragedy for me: I prefer the ToyBiz with removable helmet, but the more I see the ToyBiz head on the DiD body, the more I think the DiD one looks to be in better scale.

It's funny because the ToyBiz sculpt on the ToyBiz body looks a little large relative to the tiny Hobbit sized body, so I'm wondering if the ToyBiz head does in fact look right in-hand on the ToyBiz larger body... or if it's one of those things where its too small for DiD but too large for TB? Maybe this is where shortening the DiD body just a bit would split the difference.

My problem with the DiD sculpt is that it looks a bit like Rip Van Winkle with that large tangled beard.

Another question: is the DiD body a bulky body -- meaning is it "fat" as a base body? Or is there padding?

I'd love to hear feedback from those with both figures in-hand.

I will be switching to the TB hands. In the pic you can see that the hands do not match the the shoulder armour. The TB is perfect. Istill might switch the boots out also-tomorrow along with the paint up.

The beard could be longer.
Beard needs to be lighter.
Chain maile needs to be darker.

The TB head and helmet do look accurate and in scale in your comp -- I guess it's just the beard that throws it off for me.

I wonder if adding some 'beard' with sculpy would help? Couldn't hurt, right? Gonna repaint anyway.

But the figure in general with the bash looks to be a great rep of Gimli.

You are using the DID shoulder armor, right? That seems the best, with the TB gauntlets. The DID gauntlets are too Barbie-ish. The boots seem to work though, size-wise. I think the TB boots will be too small. Gimli needs big boots.

The DID shoulder armour is attached to the jerkin. I might get the nerves up to dremel out the shoulders on the Rotocast Gimli and attach with leather but that would be in the future. On a side note, I might try the same thing with my Rotocast Eomer although it is also small.

I got the DiD because the weapons are better quality (realy wood and metal) and the size is better ie Gandalf>Gimli>Frodo as opposed to the Gandalf>Frodo>Gimli you get on the TB one.

But WHERE did you get it? Or where is anyone getting them. I haven't found any yet. :(

The head is a tad too small to match the Sideshow heads. But it's mainly the beard is too short. Also the Hobbits are a bit oversized.

Ideally, would be shrinking the Hobbit heads, and perhaps also shortening their legs a fraction, and enlarging the Toybiz Gimli head but that's a lot of work. I think dwing has cobbled together the best 1:6 Gimli one can without getting into more detailed doll surgery.

Sword and shield are not film accurate but honestly, who the heck cares. This thing is a work of art.

He wrote the following:

"Basically is the figure of DID with some modifications.I shortened legs and arms..I repainted the hs and I sculpted the eyebrows...and i made some improvements on the clothes, chainmails ,etc...."

THIS is my goal for my custom Gimli, period.

Ideally SS would make us our figures. I totally killed a good bidy maile(dml) and then I end up not using it:(.

Wow! just saw this picture and wow! Looks killer. That repaint almost looks photoshopped-the eyes look real. I may enf up using the DID sculpt after all.

What was wrong with the DML chainmaile?

That GIMLI above is definitely the goal. He got the beard looking great, but I'd still like to use the TB head if possible. I wish he'd repainted that just to see.

Great pix everyone!

I guess its final, I am gonna HAVE to get that Gimli. Then send the head off to Josh for repaint :rock

Nothing wrong with the chain maile really just the DID stuff lays right and actually looks close in the photo and will be better once painted. I will repaint both to see what they look like.

I heard the DiD maile had sparklies on it that got all over everything. I don't see that in your photo.

The maile that comes with the TB Gimli looks similar to the Boromir maile. I wonder if its more useable to be consistent? That said, the TB maile looks kinda crappy.

Forgot to mention that-yes it is very sparkly. Strong breath I guess. Yeah TB looks like the crap that Boromir had.
