Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

HT isn't stupid as a company. They've chosen not to make figures in the past where the cost they'd have to charge would be more than they thought the market could bear. I'm sure the profit margin on these is the same as it is for a figure and they are charging just as much as they need to make it worthwhile to release the product.

By all means if you think it's not worth it, don't buy it. If they sell so few that they don't break even on it, then they will have learned that there are some things they shouldn't make.

That's a pretty big assumption considering the price jumps their figures have taken over the last year and a half.

No kidding! People here got stop kidding themselves and quit defending Hot Toys. At this point is just silly to be talking about bs like cost of materials (plastic and LED... that thing ain't worth 10 bucks) and other stupidities like "likeness fees". They are just charging that because they got a taste of money. Iron Man is one of their biggest (if not THE biggest) money making franchise. They will milk as much as they can and will charge extra because the real addicts will have to pay up.

And more power to HT for all the product they put out. They are in business to make money. They can charge whatever they want for their product. I can only speak for myself but they are not getting any of my money for these at those prices.

Actually, by the looks of it,they aren't getting ANYONE'S money on this one. That kind of defeats the purpose of even putting these things for sale.

Maybe none of our money, but we represent a very small and largely unrepresentative portion of the market for these things. I don't know if we can give an educated guess about how these things will sell, but if I had to bet on it I would think they'll eventually, before too long, sellout like all things Iron Man; particularly with the new movie and Avengers 2 on the horizon AND if Hot Toys can produce more armors for the market that new buyers can grab. Maybe :huh

I wonder if that's why the Mark I and II are still in stock - I get the feeling they were produced in far larger numbers than any of the previous armors. Lots of new collectors will have three HOA boxes for just the Mark I, II, and VII :lol

People will buy. This happens all the time on this board. People get all riled up gather their pitch forks and torches and in the end go home to order online.

I don't think they are stupid, but I can tell you from experience that there's no reason to assume they aren't making more money from this than they would a figure. There should be SIGNIFICANTLY less mold costs for this, and the electronics are dead simple. I'm sure they set the price at what they thought the market would accept, that doesn't mean they are right, of course. But sometimes a companies looks across multiple projects throughout the year, and they'll balance it all out across products. So if they have a product that will make less margin, they try to make it up with another. I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't happening here.

I always thought we were the largest portion of the market. I mean, we are the ones that love this hobby enough to be here talking about it. Who are these other obscure die hard fans that will gladly spend $800 on this?

I think I good sign the price is indeed outrageous on this item is the backlash at ToysDaily. They usually stay clear the price conversations and even when they don't, they seem to be very supportive of Hot Toys and it's prices. Not this time though.

:exactly: That's sounds like the most reasonable and possible explanation for this price.

I just think of the Avengers Mark VI. 3000 produced between the Asian and NA markets, sold out in less than day, didn't it? Who bought them all? Certainly not the however-many-dozen of us mostly posting in this thread nor the several dozen regularly posting in this forum. I would think we're a small minority who have both a passion or interest in the hobby and are interested in what others think about it.

As absolutely insane as these prices are, we have to assume Hot Toys has done due diligence to the numbers and wouldn't set a price that the market wouldn't accept... hardly a justification, but it could be an explanation. However, if they did, at least we have front-row seats to the bloody aftermath :wave

Nope, the Asian market is far larger and seems to have more disposable income. Many of our members are part of that market but only a small percentage - and I'm sure there are many that won't blink at this price.

Personally I'm looking forward to recreating the poster for Ironman 3.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

103.9 USD - 1 piece
392.2 USD - set of 7
662.7 USD - set of 7

These are the price in my place....still way overprice for me but I'm still getting one...at least.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

These are designer toys aimed at big spenders, why wouldn't the status of the make and brand also not factor in? How much does it cost to make Air Jordans? These guys and Enterbay are like the Guccis and Versaces of the toy world.

Ten years ago, all 1/6 scale meant to me was a mediocre line of Hasbro Gi Joe figures. We're only just starting to see the effects of how much more popular this is with big spending collector types. If you haven't narrowed down your focus, you might want to now.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

I don't want little closets for my toys. I'd prefer to display them in action poses.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

The set of 7 costs way less where I am. $600. Pre-ordered mine.

:exactly:

I'm with you 100% there. The price is killing me though. I will probably break down and do it simply because a HOA has been my end game since the first IM figure I purchased. I can already visualize the display case with that exact look in my living room and am admittedly an IM junkie.

It isn't that I don't have the cash. It's more how violated I will feel after receiving it. I love the gantry and the Tumbler but I didn't exactly feel they were worth that much. Staring at them now, I'm still not convinced the gantry is. The Tumbler on the other hand, I love more each day.

This will be the first IM piece that is going to require a lot of thought before pulling the trigger IF I do. What if these tank because hardly anyone buys them, what do I do with the latter releases when these are no longer available? We know that room gets destroyed in IM3. If Tony replicates them and builds a new HOA down the road, what if I like the new one better? Yeah, I might be able to sell these and break even but there is also very good chance I will loose my shirt. It's not like a figure. I have never felt any figure I have ever bought wasn't worth it. I have no intention of ever selling them unless times were desperate. I just really enjoy receiving a new box from Hot Toys and being excited to open, photograph and display it with never the fleeting thought of "I paid HOW much for this?!" That feeling kinda sucks the fun right out of it...

:exactly: I don't feel like it's a matter of people not having the cash for it, but paying that much for a couple of pieces of plastic and some LED's is ridiculous.

And yet, throw a gun, a trenchcoat, and another $60 in and you have yourselves a standard Hot Toys release nowadays. It's an absurd hobby to begin with. :dunno

That's why I love it! :thud:
