Just playing devils advocate here cause I agree with you all about remaking figures and it killing the value of our figures.
Everyone always talks about how if you're in this hobby you should be in it for the love of the figure and no looking at making a profit on flipping figures. Why is everyone here suddenly worried about figures being remade? Shouldn't we be happy a new ones coming along with "better" features? It's like the PS going to a PS2 then the PS3. Or Sony coming out with a new 60" screen tv. It's just a newer version.

i am angry at remakes not because my figure loses value, but because they usually add new gimmicks and features and i always want to have the figure that is the best in those terms. it just feels like crap when i spend my hard earned money to buy a figure and then a while later they release a better version of it.
And noone should expect their figures to retain value either IMO.
Otherwise what incentive do manufacturers have to improve their craft
so, do you buy or lease a car every year? By buying the new version it shows Hot Toys that not only the people that missed out the first time are gonna get it, but the ones that got the first version are willing to use their hard earned money on the second, third, or fourth version of it.
Like the Mark IV vs. Mark VI if you really look at it, its a repaint with a few changes in some peoples eyes. I bought both because I wanted both. some people decided to just get one cause it was too much money to buy 2 figures that were so close in appearance.
Yeah but keep in mind...these Hot Toys figures aren't mass produced Hasbro figures either. When you spend the kind of money on these figures, you expect to get the best possible representation of the character/person possible.
The thing with Hot Toys that irks me is that these upgrades aren't to improve their craft. The bottom line is the almighty dollar. They know by rereleasing popular figures with upgrades they'll not only lure new collectors getting into the hobby but have collectors double dip on the same characters. From a business standpoint, they are apt to make alot of money...but sooner or later (like anything else) collectors will get tired and find something else to collect.
It's their company and their choice how they spend their money on their product. It's our choice how we spend ours. When we the buyer's move on and buy other products and they go out of business they'll learn from their mistakes.
I honestly hope they make the Mark I again, I passed on it the first time. If they make it again, I'll buy it.
i never said that i buy the re-releases or the variants. actually, i think i am one of the few that has been turned off enough by the multiple releases to not buy as much as i used to because i am afraid of re-releases.
you are assuming every collector has the same resources as you to buy a lot of these figures but some of us are still students or have a family to raise. for people like us, it is a slap in the face when we use our previous resources and then a year later a better version of the same figure is released. and you can't seriously compare a car to a figure. they are two completely different things
I'm not trying to be a Debbie downer but I think HT has shown that they really don't care too much about giving us an excuse for their re-releases or variants, they know they will sell regardless if collectors who bought the 1st like it or not. This is evidenced by the re-release of the Mark 4 with the gantry that is exactly the same as the original that released not very long ago. The Mark 4 SDCC repaint is another.

Like every has been saying all along, why should they care? They are running a business and there is a market out there for re-releases/repaints (folks who like variants, folks just joining, folks who didn't get a chance to purchase during the original release, etc.). I think it's good business, IMHO.
