I can see HT showing a teaser for a new Mark 1 this week just to ____ with us.

Just playing devils advocate here cause I agree with you all about remaking figures and it killing the value of our figures.

Everyone always talks about how if you're in this hobby you should be in it for the love of the figure and no looking at making a profit on flipping figures. Why is everyone here suddenly worried about figures being remade? Shouldn't we be happy a new ones coming along with "better" features? It's like the PS going to a PS2 then the PS3. Or Sony coming out with a new 60" screen tv. It's just a newer version.

Comparing figures and electronics are like comparing apples and oranges. Electronics are always evolving due to everchanging technology. Nobody expects their electronics to consistently retain value.

And noone should expect their figures to retain value either IMO.

Otherwise what incentive do manufacturers have to improve their craft

HT has to be careful with doing the remakes. If they anger too many of their collectors, they will loose customers. They make a great product and I would like to see this continue. I don't want to see them go the way of Master Replicas and make a lot of bad buisness decesions.

That's a crazy idea!!!!!! Buying a figure cause you love it! dude you are :cuckoo: These are investments for the future!! LOL I plan to sell all of mine and retire on a private island, kick out all the natives and fill it with the beautiful people.

edit: I just want to add that I really like this Hall of Armor stuff but I don't know if i'll be getting it as I just don't know the cost and if i'd be willing to spend on something like this or another figure instead. Besides I don't have the Mark I and it wouldn't be complete. :(

i am angry at remakes not because my figure loses value, but because they usually add new gimmicks and features and i always want to have the figure that is the best in those terms. it just feels like crap when i spend my hard earned money to buy a figure and then a while later they release a better version of it.

so, do you buy or lease a car every year? By buying the new version it shows Hot Toys that not only the people that missed out the first time are gonna get it, but the ones that got the first version are willing to use their hard earned money on the second, third, or fourth version of it.

Like the Mark IV vs. Mark VI if you really look at it, its a repaint with a few changes in some peoples eyes. I bought both because I wanted both. some people decided to just get one cause it was too much money to buy 2 figures that were so close in appearance.

Yeah but keep in mind...these Hot Toys figures aren't mass produced Hasbro figures either. When you spend the kind of money on these figures, you expect to get the best possible representation of the character/person possible.

The thing with Hot Toys that irks me is that these upgrades aren't to improve their craft. The bottom line is the almighty dollar. They know by rereleasing popular figures with upgrades they'll not only lure new collectors getting into the hobby but have collectors double dip on the same characters. From a business standpoint, they are apt to make alot of money...but sooner or later (like anything else) collectors will get tired and find something else to collect.

It's their company and their choice how they spend their money on their product. It's our choice how we spend ours. When we the buyer's move on and buy other products and they go out of business they'll learn from their mistakes.

I honestly hope they make the Mark I again, I passed on it the first time. If they make it again, I'll buy it.

Oh absolutely. I understand that as a company they make choices to appeal to their niche demographic. As a collector, there are always choices as far as what to collect. Just realize that not everybody is on board with reissues or rereleases of previous figures. It's not something Hot Toys was specifically known to do (until this past year).

I don't want to see HT go out of business...but rereleases will only take them so far. I understand why collectors get upset and I respect their opinion on the matter. Is that stopping me from getting an updated Jack Sparrow figure? Nope...But I question myself on what upcoming figures will be getting updated in the future. To be honest, it's changed my way of collecting and I haven't been buying nearly as much as I have.

i never said that i buy the re-releases or the variants. actually, i think i am one of the few that has been turned off enough by the multiple releases to not buy as much as i used to because i am afraid of re-releases.

you are assuming every collector has the same resources as you to buy a lot of these figures but some of us are still students or have a family to raise. for people like us, it is a slap in the face when we use our previous resources and then a year later a better version of the same figure is released.

They are not 2 different things. They are both goods offered to the public that we can buy. although, a car would probably be more important to have, unless you live in....... wait I got sidetracked.

trust me man, I wish i had all the resources in the world. I have plenty of bills, and a family to feed. Sometimes as much as I hate it, I can't afford to get the updated versions of all the goodies I like.

I agree with Nitro on the fact that I don't want then to go out of business, When a company I like makes decisions that I think are bad I give them the my opinion. If they continue to make these decisions, I eventually have to give them the most harsh criticizing by simply stopping my business with them.

Which is better then?

  1. Re-Issuing a figure exactly as was from the same production model.

[*]Re-making a figure in a different manner, with different accessories, different sculpt, different materials, what have you

Lets take the MK 1 for example:

  • New sculpt, interior details lf Tony Stark, computer start up system, eye lights.

This route improves upon the original release, making the previous release redundant.

But what if...

  • Tony Stark with chest RT and car battery figure with MK 1 armour components that can attatch to the figure.

This route is different enough from the original, similar enough to the original and offers something new to both the collector who bought the original and those who missed out.

Thoughts?....

That would be cool. It would be fair to previous buyers of the Mark I to change it up so it's not exactly as the first release. It would be in their best interest to keep previous customers satisfied but at the same time offer a product that to a new customer or one that did not pick it up the first time. That would be good business.

I'm not trying to be a Debbie downer but I think HT has shown that they really don't care too much about giving us an excuse for their re-releases or variants, they know they will sell regardless if collectors who bought the 1st like it or not. This is evidenced by the re-release of the Mark 4 with the gantry that is exactly the same as the original that released not very long ago. The Mark 4 SDCC repaint is another.

True!

RE-RELEASE THE TUMBLER!!!!! :yess: well at least I hope they do.

Like every has been saying all along, why should they care? They are running a business and there is a market out there for re-releases/repaints (folks who like variants, folks just joining, folks who didn't get a chance to purchase during the original release, etc.). I think it's good business, IMHO.

Agreed. I don't plan on selling my IM figures down the road so this doesn't bother me from that point of view. The only gripe I would have is that maybe the company could be spending time developing something new for the line instead of rehashing previously released models. But, since HT answered my prayer for the Iron Monger I'm happy as a pig in mud so re-re-re-re-release all you want boys!

:peace
