I don't agree. Just because Hasbro uses photoshop on a product that is several orders of magnitude lower on the price and quality scale, I treat what HT is doing the same way. With HT's track record lately with the Battle Damaged Mark III and DX Batman, I'm not willing to hedge bets on their choice to manipulate an official photo to present some sort of assurance that the final figure will look like that.

HT has done this before recently. The first pic released by HT for the Clash of the Titans Perseus figure showed the figure having a seamless neck on the Perseus headsculpt, but the final figure shown in the official specs has an obvious cut-line at the base of the head.

That was the preview pic, now what they're doing is beginning to bleed into official pics.

And then there's this, just recently posted by OMG:

switch on arms for the display proto:

I seriously hope the final iron man Mark 4 piece does not look as rough as what they are showing here. Around the inner chest plate, you can see the surface is really rough.

What the hell is this?

It's in that group of photos from ToyWorld (that plasmid303 linked).

I asked about this in the Whiplash thread. Here's the response I got:

... Here is a small translation aproximate of the article on.cc (it is what it is ...):
"Iron Man Extravaganza more
In addition to Mark Ⅳ and Whiplash, as with the movie release, HT invited several designers to jointly create their own special version of Iron Man, and next week in "Iron Man. Heat. Innovation." Exhibition, it was reported participating works up more than 20 workers in toy fan or design can be an eye-opener."

Ahhh.. ok. Almost like those special Storm Trooper designs Sideshow comes up with for their shows. Thanks for the info Jon.

I thought it was an armored version of Whiplash.

Looks terrible :lol

Still, it's pretty cool HT is doing something like that for people and giving them a chance to display their work at an exhibition.

I thickened the upper torso which included part of the abdomen area, so, as dedguy mentioned, it could be the head being a bit small that's making the chest look big.

This is just my perception of how it looks and I considered both the cg suit and prop suit I've seen in footage and promo stuff so far.

Don't know if it changes anything, but I increased the head sized about 3% in proportion to the rest of the body.

Yours looks INCREDIBLY better! I think we should all copy it, paste it on HT's FB & tell them this is what we want!

This is a good photo edit, nice work. But unfortunately, this is just as far as it can go. It's just wishful thinking right now because even if you post this in a major newspaper in hongkong or whatever, this will not change anything anymore. The production design of the figure alone were brainstormed by numerous designers before they could go to prototype and now that the proto is released, that's it. A die-hard fan or a miniscule group of fans will not even put a dent on that decision. Sorry guys. How do i know that, well, simple -- I'm not a child anymore. This is a manufacturing company. Please use your common sense.

Or we could use our wallets & not buy it & hope they don't make the same mistake with the Mark VI.

except that HT has made changes directly based on fan complains many many times in the past. Totally reworked sculpts in fact.

I Agree with you 100%... we are her to enjoy talks about our Hobby/Collection.. But Boy There are some members Here that really don't have a Life, they Critique everything and are totally Ridiculous ................ I know an opinion is a valid response to something, but some of people thoughts are just plane ignorance and lack of appreciation of..... the time, money, development and artistry that these companies do..... to bring us Joy.... Creating is a very difficult task, to destroy is a more simple one...and some comments are just that....if you don't like it, why not build it yourself that is what i have to say to some folks here with all respect......

I agree with The Mike, you, and the very few others who feel that the critcism have gone over the edge in this thread. This is a beautiful piece that everyone should own. And even though I have decided not to collect this line, I will likely get this one just because it is too freaking awesome to not have.

Version 2 or DX route excuse. :(

That's not true. They developed the narrow shoulder TT just to make the original TDK figure's shoulders narrower based on complaints. They have revised more head sculpts than I can even remember.

They've done that far more often than releasing DXs or second versions of anything. There's THREE DX's and only TWO of them are re-hash figures and they're both from the same line. I'm sick of hearing the "I'll wait for the DX" business. They only have done that with TDK line. That's hardly a trend.

Hell even on the mkIV they already corrected a minor paint mistake due to fan response.

It was still far off though.

Film is nearly out they rush figures. 2008.

Later on excuse not enough resources supplied. Don't have internet access? there was tons of images all over the web before and after the film was out in cinemas. Hence second attempt.

We never knew that when the v1 Joker and v1 Batman hit. We thought the MMS line was complete but they rushed it out to make money with so many mistakes. Then most of us got pissed off once the DX's were announced because we knew they could have done it right from the very beginning. We accepted it regardless but the thought will always remain about double dipping. You can't deny that.

It's not quite as bad as with Iron Man 2. Most of my gripe is just worrying how good the paint finish will be and no plastic/rubber mismatching paint that discolours.

This figure maybe quite slim but it's wicked as it is. I just don't want the problem Mark3 suffers.

I don't think the DX Batman and Joker where some master plan on HT's part to screw over the customer no. They released them simply because people wanted them.

"Double dipping" has never bothered me. I can't complain about a better version of something being made available. It's not like the purposely made the first line of products bad. Hell, I'm of the opinion that HT couldn't have made the DX Batman and Joker without having made the first set. They also hired a bunch of new people between the first TDK figures and the DX. The first TDK figures aren't inaccurate so much as HT just got much better at making figures between the first release and the DX release... a year later was it?

We also don't know the whole story about the inner workings of HT and how their licenses work (and never will). There could very well be time constraints related to licenses when granted. This perceived "rushing" could be because of the license.

There's nothing wrong with wishful thinking. We do that all the time here. :lol

I didn't do the mod to post it on HT's facebook. The modification is sorta my desire to have my cake and eat it too, and mostly for the sake of it. Honestly, if the Mark IV lands at my doorstep and it looks exactly like the prototype (in terms of proportions, not paint), I'll probably be happy as-is, so what damage am I doing by tweaking the image a bit to my tastes?

That said, I'm not sure it's too late for HT to make changes to the sculpt. Obviously, if one paid attention to DX Batman, you'd know how drastic of changes Hot Toys can make in the time between first-look to final figure.

I use to think that HT's modus operandi was steeped in attention to detail and willingness to fix inaccuracies on their own, but I don't think that's true. They're listening to us.

edit: one more for the road. a few more slight changes. Everything below mid-torso is unchanged.

Again...I freakin' LOVE the Hot Toys Iron Man line, but I really don't think this should be released as skinny as it is. They can do this one better & they should.

you succeeded in expressing with picture what's lacking when i couldnt express it with words. great mod.

I don't need it to be flawless, but I think HT can just get a little bit closer.

I don't know, guys. I think people should feel free to critique a perceived innacurracy, no matter how small it is. It's their opinion and they should be free to express it on an open forum.
got that right! i find myself more and more in agreement with everything you said.

boooo!!

We don't have concrete proof that HT made those changes based solely on complaint on boards, these boards are nothing compared to the Asian boards which really get down to the tiny detail and really give it to them. I'm sure they log in here and say "Huh...not that bad". If any changes were made due to complaint from fans (and like I said we have no concrete proof that those changes weren't already in the pipe since HT changes things up until release) it'd be from there.
