Some of these comments make me think there are people in this hobby who just cannot be satisfied and should find something else to collect.

Exactly. I don't see why people are dismissing this...

If this got cast well and sold there'd be an interest list a mile long.

The problem isn't being satisfied or not!

Now, I will by this figure, even if I think it's bad. Why, because it's still better than what we had, but let's face it, the improvement isn't $200 worth.

Hot Toys is lucky to be HT and have its reputation. Any other company that would dare to release this? At that price point? We would all be screaming "thieves"!

The clothes are good, but that sculpt is mediocre at best! In its own time, head play was doing better, and SSC, even though that are bad at paint jobs, keeps giving us much better likeness than HT in the SW line.

If anything, HT has been regressing lately. Too much money makes them lazy! But they shouldn't be worried! Stupid fans like us will still spend the money!

I dunno I've seen cinema clubs custom go for $400 and this one is vastly superior. But to each their own.

And then there are those of us who pre ordered the Han Solo HT because we LIKED the original iteration...

...and then they go and pull this???

Think about that.

And the original iteration of Ben too? I'm just saying the system of criticism in forums like this is important, but obviously not everyone's going to agree with the outcome.

Dunno what to say other than the virtual world and the real world are different places. And "Cast well" assumes it does not vertically stretch the sculpt and come out 10-20% undersize or... somehow simply not match up to the original render. And yeah, there was interest a mile long for the WGP heads at virtual render stage. This is one of the top-level paint-ups of it.

Well, 'cast well' was one of the key parts of my statement :)

I'd be interested for sure to see how this turned out. But if it was 'cast well' like many custom sculpts are then it'd be the no. 1 Indy sculpt out there.

I actually prefer this new HT HS to the hoth Han HS by SS. keep reading how people bash this one and praise SS? To each ur own but for my money this new sculpt is one of the best I've seen.

Sure! It's almost as good as their Indy!:lol

Keep it up, HT! I see a bright future for you guys! Soon you'll almost rival Hasbro quality!:D

I foresee a lot of Chicken Littles cancelling their order, losing the NRD, and then re-ordering once they see the awesome in-hand pics! ;)

I asked my wife this evening, which sculpt she thought looked better - bearing in mind that she could not be less interested in Star Wars or collectibles.

She chose the new sculpt.

#facepalm.

I'm not gonna cancel my pre order but damn if I wasn't close.

I think the last round of both SSC and Hot Toys Star Wars stuff has been less than satisfactory in the head sculpts and/or paint apps. Obviously this is the most complicated part of making these figures and appeasing us fans.

I feel that the pressure from Disney/LFL to get things out before TFA hits has caused both companies to accelerate beyond their ability to produce the level that we want. Things happen at the factories to be sure. If you look beyond these "Big Two" you can find newer companies who are more transparent with the process and hear their woes of factories doing their own thing or not being able to meet the standards promised.

This really hit home with the SSC Hoth heroes for me, I was beyond excited when I first saw them revealed at SDCC but once I saw the production pieces I was so disappointed, I have resolved myself to not having any Hoth in my display and it is one of my all time favorite scenes in any movie. Ever.

When I first saw HT get the license I was extremely excited because despite what a vocal minority say about Bespin Luke, he remains a very popular piece in my collection, especially for friends who come over and do not collect, they see him in both his outfits and appearances and they freak out. I have to say that I have not been excited about any of the face sculpts on the HT SW figures so far. The Luke is ok and even though Chewie is not perfect, he is pretty cool to see realized in 1/6th form in this fashion. I was really, really hoping for an awesome Alec Guiness Obiwan and until I see in-hand production pieces that look better than what I have seen before I still remain a fence rider.

SDCC is coming rapidly and I am, as always, excited to see what will be shown... however I have learned to not get overly excited for what is displayed versus what I will end up with at my front door.

You must have heard this before, but it's really your loss. SSC has released a stellar lineup for Hoth and that includes Luke and Han, both of which are very good overall. By far the biggest complaint I can make against them is the use of random bodies of incorrect height.

Here's what else you're missing out on:

Taun Taun
Probe Droid
Snowtrooper
E-Web gun

I don't care for the Taun Taun at all, cant stand the neck seem and they just look like statues.. I love Taun Tauns but not getting one that looks like that.

Probe Droid is the one and only thing that I totally think they nailed it on and I still might get one because it can work anywhere, the Empire launched dozens of them in that one scene.

Snow Trooper has weird eyes/face piece. I just didn't care for them even when they first came out. Not going to get one of these.

Heavy Web gun was way too much money for what it is. It just doesn't scream out to me so decided to pass on that one years ago.

Luke and Han were the most important and while the outfits look good I just cant get past that dead doll stare and regression of paint techniques. The Wampa attack head is the best out of the bunch in my opinion but I have not been able to bring myself to hit the buy button and don't think I will.

Think about that.

Exactly where I'm at now. I really like the prototype and was looking forward to getting that version of Han. I think Hot Toys made a decent looking Ford and a great looking Solo in the proto. The new sculpt is a decent looking Ford and a poor looking Solo, and I'm not happy.

I already paid $240 in reward points and $174 in actual cash for the Han and Chewie shown in the prototypes and will have to pay another $63 or forfeit the $48 NRD and my $240 in reward points if I cancel now. So for some of us that are unhappy with the new sculpt, we just can't simply cancel our orders.
I know it is possible to sell off Han if I want my money back on him, but I really only want one Han on my shelf and that's ANH so I'm looking at keeping the figure and hope that someday a better looking ANH Han Solo sculpt will get made by HT and replace the head, or just live with this new sculpt I like less than the proto. It's just a frustrating situation to me, all HT had to do was release Han with the Proto head and I'd be more than happy.

If you haven't seen them in hand you haven't seen them well represented. The thing with most production sculpts, certainly ones from Hot Toys and SSC's newer releases, is that there is very little paint used on them. The majority of color comes from the resin/plastics they're cast in. The more significant issue with the Hoth heads is the plastic is too tan/dark and this is the biggest difference compared to what was shown at SDCC and early photos. Can't undo that mistake and I understand if something one can't get over, but I still feel that none of the photos online, as excellent as they may be, do these figures justice. For those with either the talent or a few dollars to spare, full repaints would kick them up to another level entirely. As far as "dead stare" that's no more present in these guys than any of Hot Toys expressionless zombie-like sculpts.

I'm hyper-critical of product, and I'm quite content with all the Hoth pieces, even the Taun Taun statue which is the last one I need to get. And the E-Web which I received in a trade, otherwise I'd be without it.

Yeah as much I'm not crazy about the new likeness, it's really the bland and almost goofy expression that's killing it the most for me.

Shame they couldn't just release the figure with both heads, and let people use whichever one they happen to like best.

You'd better make sure not to look at any photos taken with a real camera when they get released, otherwise you might have to change your mind/position. ;)

But then those of us revelling in the disappointment of our fellow collectors wouldn't be happy -- and we're an important constituency! :lol
