All these attempts to make it look good. Sorry but it's a miss. And what a shame.

Don't see how this is a miss, but perception of human likeness is an entirely subjective exercise:

The difference in tailoring is as big a jump as the difference in paint app quality.

Yep... like it was going from Hasbro to Sideshow 10 years ago.

If there's that much of an upgrade for the ANH Han, just imagine how much better the Bespin Han will look (given how ultra crappy the original version looks).

HT Bespin Han will be such a relief and likely THE definitive Han Solo people have been wanting since Sideshow's attempt.

:lol a "miss"

Nearly choked on my soda reading that.

Good luck finding a better ANH Han than this anytime soon.

Yeah but I don't think anyone's calling the headsculpt a home run either (and yes, it should have been.):dunno But the body and outfit are a huge leap over the SSC (except the holster/belt and blaster.)

My plan is to get the HT Bespin Han or stormie Han head and swap onto this body/outfit (the hair's the only difference and this one's hair is not that ANH-specific anyway.) This head would be fine for a stormie Han because there's less emphasis on the headsculpt.

Everyone sure seems to have a lot of faith in this unseen "Bespin Sculpt". Seems like greener grass syndrome could be taking hold.

We need a leak!

Yeah but I don't think anyone's calling the headsculpt a home run either.

While not a home run, I think it's at least a solid triple. I'm not sure why some people see this sculpt as being so far off. To me it's the best Harrison Ford as Han Solo sculpt we've seen to date.

But the body and outfit are a huge leap over the SSC (except the holster/belt and blaster.)

What makes the SS holster belt and blaster better? I did think it was the best part of the SS figure, but the HT one looks really good too - never thought I would want to swap the HT one for the SS one.

I thought of swapping out Han Solo's head with the Han Stormtooper head too; not because I don't like the sculpt but because I was worried that the seam in the hair would bother me. Now that I have Han in hand though the seam isn't as noticeable in person as it is in some of the highly detailed and close up photography I have seen. But in addition to this though, after seeing the sweaty effect they are giving Stormtrooper Luke I suspect they will do the same for Stormtrooper Han. I' don't think a sweaty Han head on the regular body and outfit would look that great.

As for using the head of a future ESB Han, to me Harrison doesn't look the same in that movie as he did in ANH. I'm not sure how much this is a result of being a bit older, maybe weighing a bit more or less, or a different hair cut, but if I have one Han figure I want him to have the classic ANH look. No one has seen the Bespin Han sculpt yet, so we'll see, but I'm not unhappy with what I already have in the HT Han Solo.

We need to be more "bird in the hand" I guess.:lol

The last two announced HT sculpts have been the best (Luke and Leia) so my rationale is they're getting better.

True, but that's actually not saying much. What is there? That weird Medicom Duchovny sculpt, or that UU one, or Tan Solo or the old pancake make-up SSC efforts?

What I was wanting from this was a "one-and-done" Han purchase, given the $230 pricetag. Something that nailed the likeness with ultra-real apps as only HT can. Maybe there'd be other Han iterations to tempt you, but you wouldn't need them. This is not that figure to me based on pics - but yes, I still only have Chewy in-hand so I'm trying to embrace the "better in-hand" thing until mine arrives.

No, didn't say it was better than the HT, just that the HT is no better than the SSC. The outfit however is a huge leap forward.

It's kind of funny that the boots are the worst part when the very best part of HT Ben is the boots.:dunno

Haven't seen the sweaty face on Luke yet - haven't tracked that thread as much because I'm getting HT Luke and have two HT stormies, so feel I have that covered. Not sure why you'd make them sweaty though.:cuckoo:

And this ANH Han really isn't that specific to ANH to me, and with sculpt in the middling range likeness wise, it's a bit hard to split hairs and call one aspect ANH and another ESB. It's like - let's get the likeness sorted first and foremost, then let's talk individual film idiosyncrasies of hairstyles and looking a little younger or older.

What's weird is that in certain scenes, to me Han actually looks younger in ESB than he does in ANH (though definitely older in ROTJ.)

That argument might not fly as the previous one was Hoth Han and that got ripped apart by a lot of folks. :lol

(Edit: I see Talibane did a nice list of the previous iffy Solo efforts).

I'm pretty happy with this figure, though. Some people will and can see it as a miss and wait for the next one. And if the next one seems perfect it'll be clear how much room there was for improvement.

im with you brother. this looks great. this is ford on my shelf. i find it funny people see no likeness and miss in this sculpt, but are in love with the coneheaded stormtrooper luke as the best sculpt ever! lol like you said, subjective.

i edited adding stormtrooper luke because for some reason it does not look as good as the regular luke. anyways

Just received my Han and Chewie. Though not perfect (what ever is), I'm really pleased with both of them.
The paint apps on these Hot Toys figs are just incredible ...

^^^^ Looks great there.

YES it does! looks like Han Solo in ANH to me there! Looks like him in person too.

I think it's saying a lot to say it's the best one to date, and yea I was thinking of even the Hoth Han one when I said it. I'm not saying the Hoth Han is terrible, though I passed on it, I just like the HT Han Solo better. I do think part of the difference between Sideshow Hoth Han and Hot Toys ANH Han is partly due to the fact that Ford himself looked a little different in those movies. Sideshow Hoth Han clearly is trying to look like Ford did in ESB and HT Han clearly is trying to represent how he looks in ANH. Perhaps our perception of what most "looks" like Han Solo has a lot to do with how we most remember Han Solo to be. My guess is though that HT has a good chance of showing SS Hoth Han up when they do Bespin Han. If that's how people remember him as Han Solo best than I suspect a lot of people will be happy when the HT Bespin Han comes out.

My plan was for a one and done Han Solo too, and I am happy with what HT gave me here in that regard. I really like it in hand and so I am curious to hear from you after you get yours to hear what you think.

No, didn't say it was better than the HT, just that the HT is no better than the SSC. The outfit however is a huge leap forward.
I agree, the body and outfit combined is a giant leap forward. As for the belt, I am glad to hear you don't think it's better than HT, because I didn't really gave it a second look before I put my SS Han up on ebay :)

I have no idea why they thought they needed that. I guess they thought they would be hot and sweaty in the armor. They may have done it as a way to keep people from just using the head sculpt from the trooper to make a custom Tatooine Luke with SS clothes instead of buying theirs. Either way, I would have preferred they didn't do the sweaty thing and I hope it isn't a distraction.

Yea, again, I am curious about what you'll think when you get it in hand. I think the "likeness" is somewhat depended on what he looked like at the time you are trying to capture; age and a weight difference can subtly change the way someone looks. When it's just a small amount of weight or age difference it won't change things to the point of being unrecognizable but it does make a difference in the details... which I think is what we are talking about as we critically evaluate what we think of these sculpts. Faces also change when we age (and I am not just talking wrinkles) and asymmetrical faces also get crookeder and more exaggerated as people age. I think this is particularly true for Harrison Ford. For me he looks different enough between these films that I would have been disappointed to get an ESB or ROTJ looking head for ANH Han.

I'm pretty happy with this figure, though. Some people will and can see it as a miss and wait for the next one. And if the next one seems perfect it'll be clear how much room there was for improvement.
I'm happy with it too, and if something better comes along later - that will be great, but in the meantime I don't really have much to complain about with this one - I think it looks good. I am very glad I got it.
