When I see pictures like this, fan-made or not, I once again start to feel the larger chest box on the Sideshow ANH figure from 2009 is more accurate than the new and smaller HT chest box.

Just looked at my Vader...box looks about the right size.

The new HT one. Looked at screenshots to see where things lined up. The HT one is pretty spot on from what I can tell. At least it looks that way.

Has anyone posted a side-by-side pic of the SSC and HT boxes? I seem to recall everyone was saying the HT was too small originally, then it seemed like people were happy with it. How much bigger is the SSC? I remember thinking the SSC lacked detail.

there you go. big one is SS.

I would honestly put this Vader up against any 1/6 Vader I've ever seen, whether licensed or custom. Not saying he would be at the very pinnacle, but awwwwfully close. He's THAT good. The Customs that were going to see (and have already started seeing) off of these bones are going to be jaw dropping.

What vader is this? Hot Toys or a custom looks really bada**!

Now that I have had a couple of weeks from this thread I can agree with what someone said.
Its a great figure but absolute BS that you have to buy any spare parts to do simple tasks like slide a belt box, allow a tunic to drape correctly...
Worse, because the parts break with a sneeze.

For 300 bucks! its BS.

I think those are both fan made (not sure if you meant the actual onscreen costume or just a Vader costume.) That guy has AMAZING replica costumes though. His Yoda is stunning.

So yes, you were right. I looked at more movie stills and there are some differences from the shots I posted.

I suppose the simple solution to avoid that is, to quote Forest Whitaker from Fast Times, "Don't *****k with it!", but for many collectors, part of the fun is futzing with the figures and trying to make them as accurate as possible.

agreed. it's an amazing fig out of the box. stupid voice function not withstanding. some of us have a special obsession with Vader. this to me, is SO fun!! love it!!

That's the Hot Toys Vader right out of the box, no customizations at all, so I can take no credit other than snapping the shutter. Hard to find a bad angle on him.

For some reason I can't see the pictures of that fan made suit, though I assume it's GINO's suit - the guy working with eFX to make their Vader helmet.

I disagree. I think it has plenty of metallic look and is as dark as what you see on the screen. Sometimes it looked almost black. Or are you talking about what it would look like in person?

Painting things as they are in person can often be different to how they appear on screen. Sure. The Boba Fett helmet color is a good example - looks more bluish green in the movie, but more pale green in real life. Same can be said with the gunmetal color used for Vader. The tricky thing with the ANH Vader is that the gunmetal isn't covering fully, but allowing the gloss black under coat to shine through, which is why there has been so much back and forth bickering regarding finding the accurate gunmetal color used. We now know what gloss black was used and that was Rolls Royce black - also known as Mason's Black.

The under coat needs to be gloss black in order to get the gunmetal color to really pop. Maybe that's what I'm seeing that makes it appear to not have that metallic sheen in the photos!?

Regarding the chest box, I think I measured it to 28mm diameter h & w for a 1:6 scaled down from original, though, I could be wrong. And the ANH/ESB is notoriously difficult to measure since it's so wonky.
