Found some photos of he original costume , although they only made one Vader suit , there appears to be some minor differences here and there with the helmet.

the inside of vaders helmet looks rough and course like fibreglass type thing . Also the shins are definite semi to full gloss . The buttons are darker on the real costume as well and slightly weathered. but the thing that stands out the most is the shoulder and upper chest armor is a matt finish and beaten up and more dark gun metal colour. ( Games workshop lead belcher would be a good colour ) heres some pics. Oh the helmet is also glossy but has a worn beat up look

The red button on the chest piece needs to be brighter on the hot toys version.

publicity still from 1977

My small contribution. My one and only Star Wars figure that I got today. Spent most of the afternoon reading eveyone's tips about the placement of the control boxes - I think they still need to be closer together but I gave it my best shot. I also made a blade for his lightsaber so that it was redder than the plastic one that comes with the figure.

So, did a redo, like I had meantioned last night; still needs a final coat:

While the shiny black may not be accurate, it looks good in the house and out of the sun....I dig the contrast more.

So....let we see it in the house!! :wink1:

:clap It screams ANH!!

Looks good!

Has anyone figured a way to keep his arms more at his sides? His left side is particularly bad at flaring out. I tried rotating the arm around, but no luck in moving them closer in

yeah i was having a similar issue, i think he suffers from Chris Reeve superman syndrome, the arms wont go down his side.

The problem is the jumpsuit is quite thick and folded in a few layers under the armpits. The only thing that would fix it would be to dremel out between the arm and body.

I would honestly put this Vader up against any 1/6 Vader I've ever seen, whether licensed or custom. Not saying he would be at the very pinnacle, but awwwwfully close. He's THAT good. The Customs that were going to see (and have already started seeing) off of these bones are going to be jaw dropping.

Neither SSC Vader really had a great helmet sculpt though and were oversized, the Medi seemed better overall (have never seen it in hand) but that's 1/7 and it had QC issues. The Hurricane/Kaiyodo ones seem to be the gold standard for custom Vaders but no dome really works perfectly with the Kaiyodo (Hasbro too big, SSC a tad too small, but Hurricane is working on a new one.) Matrix's is the only custom Vader where someone took the Kaiyodo kit all the way and I'd say that still edges the HT Vader slightly to my eye in the "man in a suit" test, though it's ESB/ROTJ not ANH.

I guess the bottom line is, previous licensed 1/6 Vaders haven't been all that great really, and finally one comes along that's got a really very nice facemask/dome (obviously the toughest part of a Vader,) but the chest armor, gloves and sound (and other nitpicks - belt, wired inner cape) shouldn't have been issues at $300. I do love the pics of the HT Vader where it looks just like the legendary Marmit Vader.

I swear, I've never done so much customizing to a figure before :lol

i agree about the SS Deluxe suit being gob****e

Yeah if not for that, It would be a killer figure. Someday the HT line will do an ESB style - I am sure lots of suits will be used for the Sideshow piece!

Close up showing off chest...

any recommendations on double sided tape? The inner cloak is a beyotch to get to sit right.

QGF: awesome pose. Very simple, yet very Vader-esque
