"The reason the helmet looks large is because of the slimness of the torso on that figure. It's way too skinny."

"Beefing up the body a little would work wonders,"

I modified and added the "fat suit" from the Banner figure. I think it did the trick. It added just enough of an accurate form without making him look like he has a beer gut.

I also threw on he tunic/inner robe to show how that also makes him look larger, and de-emphasizing the size of his head.

Starting to look less superheroish, and more like a real man in a costume. I'm really happy with how this figure is coming together.

At least it's the more sinister version we all prefer. :)

Your Vader is looking great. WIP pics are very helpful. Slowly building up some very similar parts.

Yeah, my HT Vader helmet arrives in two days, got all the Kaiyodo/SSC/HT parts waiting, going to start Vadering as soon as I've finished my HT Fett clone.

Very nice mod! Is there anything special about the Banner fatsuit or will any HT fatsuit do the trick?

Oh enough with the tease already, put him together now I want to see! Lol...

Looking good so far WTC!

I wanted to stick with a fat suit that was moderate, and that just covered the waist and abdominal area.

Thanks! Haha.

I want to get him finished too!

I'll be damed!

I wrote a whole "Oh no he di-en't" post in defense of my choice LOL!

I went through my own images to get proof I was right, and there it was, plane as day. It's barely visible, but you can just see the edge of his brow under the dome.

You are totally correct! [emoji23]

Now something is bothering me. In all the pictures I've seen of professional, and fan made helmets with the dome off, it's only the underside of the brow that's black, the edge is painted gunmetal for the ANH helmet. Is it black or gunmetal? I'm starting to wonder if that's the bit that is throwing off the look a bit for me.

Thanks!
Most fan mades and licensed helmets are painted wrong. Not that they aren't painted well and looks great. No... there are just a lot of details on the ANH that is guesswork until better reference is made available. For instance: unlike ESB and RotJ, the ANH isn't two-tone, but is gloss black with gunmetal highlighting in various degrees with the black undercoat shining through, and drybrushing the areas that most people agree on are black and some think are actually gunmetal. It is the most difficult paint job to replicate, due to how it was painted. A prop maker tip was to apply gunmetal paint and then wipe it off as it would give that metallic shine when lit the right way - this technique can be seen at various areas of the ANH armor and helmet, and mixed with the more thorough gunmetal application it gives off a blotched, overlap and blended look between the black and gunmetal that isn't seen on the helmets and armor in the other movies.

Looks perfect.

Well I'll have to re-do my figure now because I think it looks crap ! Hahahaha ! I love this. Seriously. It definitely has "the look" going for it and indeed could pass for a man in a suit . Bravo ! :)

Wow, just got my HT Vader helmet - I'm amazed how big it is compared to the Kaiyodo/Hurricane Vader helmets. The HT dome seems even slightly larger than the Hasbro dome. Will try to post some comp pics later.

It's only slightly large, and even with the size issue, I think it's the best 1/6 Vader helmet out there so far.

Isn't the Kaiyodo Vader an ESB or RotJ version? I think his "snout" got longer in each movie.

yeah I know the hot toys helmet is big. but until we get an in between helmet this version is the best we have so far

The HT facemask isn't too much bigger than the Kaiyodo - it's mostly eyes and dome that's the difference. The HT almost feels the same scale as the Hasbro helmet, though the facemask isn't quite as big.

The HT helmet is a little underwhelming as stock, but it's remarkable what can be done with it. WTC is rocking it.:clap

I don't know for some reason I don't see ANH vader in the hot toys like I do with the hurricane face mask. I left the hot toys helmet on the face mask until hurricane can get the new helmet out. have you heard anything on that yet

Finished up customizing the stock belt.

It took me a while before I figured out exactly how I wanted to approach it, especially the closure, and how to be sure the belt would stay snug.

I used a black plastic coffee cup lid as the base.

I started by cutting out a long strip from the circumference of the lid:

After cutting away a little less than an inch of damaged material from the belt, I carefully glued the plastic to the back side of the stick belt being mindful that I want the light saber clip to be closer to the left belt box:

I left plenty of excess plastic so that the boxes could slid onto the plastic instead of the faux leather. The plan was to have the excess plastic overlap on top of itself creating a segment of double thickness that would be fed into the underside of both belt boxes, thus creating a sort of friction-fit closure. I cut the ends of the plastic into a pseudo arrow to make it easier to insert.

It worked out very well, but there was a lot of stress on the plastic where the box butted against where he leather ended. So I reenforce it with a small piece of plastic under both boxes:

Got a PM in, but I'm unclear if it's a modded HT dome or something more custom.

It seems like the HT dome is a little larger than even the Hasbro dome (which fitted the quite large SSC ANH facemask fairly well,) which is larger than any of the 1/6 domes I've seen. The HT dome dwarfs the SSC DX dome I have.

The HT helmet overall seems like a good starting point, but I can see why people felt the need to mod it. Compared to what WTC and others have done, this seems somewhat unimpressive. Beyond size, hard to compare it to my Hurricane (which has modded SSC DX dome) as that one is ESB.

Next I worked on the buckle.

I took the lid and cut a big square from the top:

I then folded it over the gap between the boxes, and then back over itself again, and cut off the excess:

I took that and glued it into a flat sleeve, and then glued it to the back of the buckle, which assisted in keeping the two ends of the plastic edges of the belt together and snug:

I was really stressing that modding the belt would be a nightmare, but overall I'm quite happy with how it turned out. It's quite snug, and no more of a hassle to attach than any other 1/6 scale belt.
