I took it as a joke that she was Ben and Luke's love child. I never got the impression Ben ever gave up the celibate Jedi lifestyle (although I just watched the Clone Wars episode where the Mandelorian lady got iced and admitted she always loved him) especially after seeing how well that worked for Anakin and Padme (and possibly Luke as well).

My biggest issue with her being Luke's daughter is what kind of jerk dumps her with lumpy the food salesman on a desert planet like the one he hated growing up on? I mean, yes, Jedi have shown a penchant for being pussies and running away into hiding and then ignoring their galaxy going down the toilet in the past (Yoda, Obi Wan, etc) but really? I understand, you had a bad pupil, he killed your other students.... you don't run away from that, you chop his f'n head off, or least both his arms and then spank his ass with a lit saber. Han would have understood and eventually forgiven him. Plus that lumpy food salesman was a horrible surrogate dad, he ordered thugs to beat her up to steal a droid.

I don't know about her being descended from Obi-Wan, but word on the street is Ewan Mcgregor was in talks to appear in Episode VIII.

Yeah... that works.. Not. We have old Obi Wan as a force ghost up until... suddenly he gets to hang out with a hot young chick and then reverts to his Clone Wars self?

I'm sure they would age him some. He was one of the best actors in the PT, especially in ROTS, so I'd have no complaints.

I heard talks of an Obi-Wan trilogy or movie between 3 and 4, but just lots of rumors. If watch it though, he was the best part of the whole PT for me.

Yeah. This rumors of a Obi-Wan movie set between 3 and 4 are another point that reinforces the Rey Kenobi theory. It would work perfect to tell the story of how obi-wan had a daughter/son.

I dont understand how she could be Obi's daughter. She is only somewhere around 18 in TFA. 30 years passed after Jedi, which was after obi wan was dead. Maybe his granddaughter, but its not possible for her to be his daughter.

That's what Yorick meant. But he needs to have a kid "daughter/son" first for a grandkid to even be possible. For the record, I don't actually think they would go that route, but I find it to be pretty interesting.

Right. Its too much of a gap to try and explain in Ep8 it seems. They would have to explain first who he had a kid with, then explain who that person was with to try and explain who Reys parents are. Seems like a lot of heavy-handed stuff to get into. Its silly anyway because he died in ANH without us ever hearing about his kids, so this would all feel very shoehorned into to the plot.

Its much simpler if she is just Rey Skywalker. Especially since he is actually in Ep8 to explain this stuff himself, not have others explain it, which would have to be the case with obi-wan. Flashbacks with Ewan would be silly. And they seem so insanely intent on distancing themselves from the prequels, I just cant see them putting him on screen. There is literally nothing from the prequels in TFA. It was such a clear goal to not reference them and act like they never happened.

Im actually starting to wonder if Disney even considers the prequels cannon anymore. Its up to them what is or isnt. With one swift stroke (lol), they wiped out the entire EU from being considered cannon anywhere. Lol. They could just say nah, theyre not really the law here anymore.

Eh, they wouldn't need to get that involved in all of it. Just playing devil's advocate here, but Luke could just as easily say, "you're grandfather was my mentor who concealed all knowledge of you to protect you from the Empire" as "you're my daughter, I hid you and concealed all knowledge of you to protect you from those who want to destroy the Jedi" without getting bogged down in too many details.

Decent, compact writing could explain either situation within the length of time we get for the explanation of Luke's father, how he died in ANH, etc. without resorting to flashbacks. I don't think they'll have to resort to lengthy flashbacks to explain Rey whatever the case may be. There were never flashbacks in the OT or PT I think, so I hope they don't feel the need to start--not counting Rey's dream sequence though technically there are some flashback elements in there.

If the make up is done correctly, I can see this really working in episode eight as a force ghost:

Not really. They dont address anything in them. Its 7 because it has to be 7. Cant erase the prequels entirely, but they can still pretend the prequels dont exist in the sense that they are never talked about again, like they did with 7.

More wishful thinking on your part than plausible strategy within Disney. :lol

They don't need to address anything if it's not necessary. But they're not going to contradict anything either.

By having Ewan McGregor's voice in Rey's flashback, they're acknowledging the existence of the prequels. Which I find no problem with, I don't think the prequels were "bad" by any stretch. To me, their only purpose was to show how Darth Vader became Darth Vader in the OT, and they did exactly that.

Exactly. I don't like the prequels, but I like certain elements of it.

To distance itself from the prequels doesn't mean to negate their existence or their plot. You could consider, for instance, the prequels as "bad movies" from a period of Star Wars history.
