Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

Batman did tell Superman that the last time he inspired anyone was when he died, so there is that.:rotfl

Batman was being his usual jerk self that was so common of his portrayal before the New 52.

Remember that he betrayed the League in "Tower of Babel", denied Blue Beetle his help in infiltrating the Checkmate HQ (thus being partially responsible for Blue Beetle's death), he designed the OMACs, and betrayed his own principles when he fired a bullet at Darkseid in "Final Crisis".

Batman was ruined a character and was no longer heroic. Batman, more than any other character, needed a serious reboot.

When Superman died, he inspired John Henry Irons to become Steel, but after that, he inspired the Supermen of America, he inspired the Legion of Superheroes, and not only that... weird as it sounds, he also inspired the Crimson Avenger, a hero that in the prior continuity was supposed to have been the first costumed hero who was a member of the original Seven Soldiers of Victory.

How did Superman inspire a guy from the past into becoming a hero? Well, this guy went to see a clairvoyant to know about his destiny, and she told him the story of a noble hero who'd die fighting against a huge monster (showing pics of Superman fighting against Doomsday) many years from then, so he vowed to do everything in his power to ensure that said hero never had to die. That story was published in the "The Golden Age Secret Files and Origins" from 1.999, before the launch of "JSA".

So, Superman was inspiring other heroes, more than 50 years before his own birth! Sounds extremely crazy, but that was canon.

And in "DC One Million", we see that Superman's legacy is destined to endure till the 853rd Century and beyond! There's the One Million Superman, and Prime Superman.

In conclusion: Batman knows NOTHING! :yess:

It's Cavill. And if you don't think he's a good actor then watch The Tudors.

Cavil seems the type that acts up to the script and story presented to him. He was pretty dry in The Immortals as well, but then again, the writing in that movie was painful at times. I have seen him in the Tudors and he's much, much better. He's just not one of those actors that can take a script and make it his own.

Im a much bigger Batman fan, but yeah he has been an ***. I thought the whole Tower of Babel storylibe was actually right in line with who he is. Plus after being mind wiped by Zatanna, can you blame him for not trusting the league?

As far as the 2 of them fighting goes. ThevHush storyline addresses it perfectly. Superman could crush, Bruce, but Bruce relies on Clark's innate goodness not too let that happen. As he says, "Deep down Clark is a good person, and deep down, I'm not." I'm paraphrasing.

Having a contingency plan to protect the Earth from the Justice League is simply a smart idea. Only haters think otherwise. :)

:goodpost: great post!!! I like reading from people who know their comics :)

I just wanted to say I think Cavill is an excellent actor and played an AMAZING Superman. I think a lot of people who didn't like the film just had other ideas on who Superman is, mostly because of the Reeves movies, especially the film critics. But i think Cavill's Superman covered a lot of the history of Superman. Captured a lot of who that characters is from Golden Age until present. I havent read every Superman comic of course, but i've read a decent amount from Golden Age to Present, and thats just what I took from Cavill's performance. He definitely studied the character and also gave it his own take, thats why i think he's made a great Superman. To me, there isnt really 1 definitely Superman anyway. He is meant to grow and evolve. All these characters are. But If you didnt like his portrayal, oh well, what can you do...

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

People see what they want to see, I guess.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

Everyone, whether they believed it or not, had a preconceived idea of what Cavill's Superman would be like. And a lot of those ideas measured up against Reeve, which was always bound to happen. The people that were comfortable in stepping outside of the Reeve box and accepting Cavill as a new, slightly different Superman were able to see the performance and the film and the direction(s) it may take.

I think Reeve did a fantastic job as Superman and I will always love those movies. At the same time, I thoroughly enjoyed Cavill as Superman simply because I didn't try to compare the two.

People might think I am crazy since I didn't enjoy the movie because I hated the script. However, I think Cavill was a good Superman and a Superman for this new generation I guess. He wasn't really dark at all like some people claim. I mean even in Superman 2 when Reeve/Kal el turned into a mortal he wanted to have a fist fight, instead of turning the other cheek. Cavill Superman seemed to care about as much as man kind as Reeve Superman did IMO. Nevertheless, there are differences between the two but that doesn't mean one is better than the other IMO.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

It's funny because I barely watched Reeve as a kid so all of the sudden I could see the warmness that Superman had on screen. It was kind of a revelation for me because I've been a Batman fan my whole life. Cavill is the right guy, no doubt

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

Everyone knows that without Kryptonite Superman would kill Batman. I'm Batman's biggest fan, but with a Kryptonite laced suit, Batman would kick Superman's *** like a little girl.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

I actually like Batman more than I do Superman. But saying he can take Superman is just crazy. All Superman has to do is grab Bats and take him up to a Wayne Enterprises satellite, sit him on it and fly off. I really want to see Bats get out of that one. :pfft:

Superman has been known to push planets out of their orbits. Saying Batman could take him in a fair fight is just.... nah.

Re: MMS200 - Man of Steel: Superman Collectible Figure

Depends on the version of Superman that you are referring too. Some interpretations limit his abilities and cap his powers. Others make him basically a god with no limit. I'm a huuuuuge Batman fan and know that this debate has been going ever since these two first came together. Personally I like the Act of God story line. It showed Superman without powers and no way to get them back when he feels that Superman and his powers define him and he basically feels useless and like a pile of crap while the others train under Batman so that they can still be heroes. "The will to act."

And a fair fight would mean that both parties are on equal grounds which can't happen. Batman could never gain Superman's powers (for sake of argument) and Superman without his powers would get his *** whooped. There is never a fair fight between these two
