Why not just get a regular Stormtrooper if you want to remove the backpack? I really don't see the point in removing it since that is what makes this iteration of the character. Buy this and a couple regular Stormtroopers and you're set either way, right?

I've been patiently waiting to know too. I only want 1 Hot Toys Stormtrooper (I have a Marmit Stormtrooper and Sandtrooper already, same reason I passed on Sideshow's way back when) so having the option to display him as the Spacetrooper with backpack and cool as heck gun or without as a regular Stormtrooper would be perfect for me. I figured eventually I'd order a regular but after seeing this I'd gladly pay the extra $20 and I'd order him right now!! But if it isn't removeable I may continue to wait.....

I only want 1 Hot Toys Stormtrooper (I have a Marmit Stormtrooper and Sandtrooper already, same reason I passed on Sideshow's way back when) so having the option to display him as the Spacetrooper with backpack and cool as heck gun or without as a regular Stormtrooper would be perfect for me. I figured eventually I'd order a regular but after seeing this I'd gladly pay the extra $20 and I'd order him right now!! But if it isn't removeable I may continue to wait.....

Yeah I'm with you Loki. So much to buy at the moment. Would be great to have some flexibility with this one. This iteration is so cool, just would be good to have backpack removed from time to time when I have him standing next to Vader from time to time. Large gun and backpack also beefs him up more than the standard naked stormtrooper. So cool !

One other thing. Is there any other advantage of pre-ordering other than getting it straight away ? I'm just thinking I'd prefer to wait for a proper review before getting some of these bad boys. Especially Chewie and his hair, want to make sure this is OK in production, to avoid any nasty surprises.

The advantage is that if it sells out you have yours on order and don't have to pay a higher aftermarket price. Will it sell out before the shipping date? No one knows.

You guys are way more disciplined than me, haha. For sure if you're going to limit yourself to one, a Spacetrooper w/removable gear would be the best of both worlds.

With Chewie you're totally safe in waiting, as it's not likely the figure will sell out by or after release, so you should have plenty of time to grab one after in-hand shots and reviews come out. With something like the Spacetrooper, you'd be best served by ordering one (do full payment, so you don't incur any penalties due to Flexpay) and then cancelling later if it turns out the equipment isn't removable. It's a convention exclusive, so should go waitlist/sold-out before release (doesn't always happen -- SDCC Cantina band member set was available long afterwards, for example -- but better safe than sorry).

I'd be really surprised if that backpack were permanently attached to the armor. They'd be silly to built a whole new piece of armor instead of adding magnets to both existing armor part and backpack.

I dunno. I've heard a lot of people being annoyed with how SSC did their Sandtrooper backpacks, with them falling off all the time whenever the figure's reposed. Personally I'd prefer it permanently attached to the armour, so having to fiddle with it isn't a nuisance.

The last Sandy Sideshow did, the deluxe, the backpacks were magnetically attached. Took them quite a while to get to that improvement but it worked out decent. Sideshow sandtroops are clunky for sure but it's what got me collecting 1/6 figures.

I was just curious, plus I like that gun, I don't want to buy it on ebay... I'm still trying to figure out which should be my first stormtrooper.

The Spacetooper is too cool to pass up... I placed an order and he'll go great with the 2 pack. I'm going to try and stay away from the Sandtrooper, but I can already feel my resistance crumbling
