Lol I'll never understand hardcore star wars fans. They seem to hate anything to new that add to the lore and want the same thing over and over again. That's how we got the force awakens. I really love the star wars expanded universe and it's lore. I like learning about the jedi and sith in the old republic. I remember when fanboys raged at Kylo's lightsaber. I thought it was very unique and cool.

The things I would do for an Old Republic film :monkey4

If you watch the collections of the CGI films from the online game on youtube they make a pretty compelling story on their own with their style and characters. This would make a nice base to build on, rather than revisiting every popular character with a young "insert name here" movie, but my guess is the studio sees the known characters/timelines as easier pickings for ticket sales.

The biggest issue with the old republic is how samey it is visually to PT, OT and NT. Not saying they need to go the route of making it like Tales of the Jedi, where the tech was more organic'y and retro/ substantially different visually from the movies, but they need to not do what TOR did where you have storm/clonetroopers and all that reuse of classic OT imagery. Otherwise it just makes bothering with a 4000 BBY movie redundant.

I mean it's just completely pointless when you've got stuff like this:

Star_Wars_The_Old_Republic_Hope__04-1000x562.jpg

but 4000 BBY.

I mean they even made him polynesian so just to really nail home the "Clonetroopers!...but not!".

I think KOTOR did a good job of balancing the new with the old in terms of design, but then that games biggest issue is in regards to its story, which is just a rehash of the movies narratives, minus the plot twist being unique in its own right.

I just hope to god we don't have to deal with more guys in white space armour ever again in Star Wars.

I was 7 years old when the first Star Wars came out and like 13 when Jedi came out, so the original movies hit me in the sweet spot of my childhood. Those are the movies I LOVE. I have also limited my high end 1/6 collecting largely to that trilogy. I am a big Star Wars fan, but here is the thing, I also realize that none of these movies are perfect and even my beloved original trilogy has flaws; even though I do think there is a good case they are objectively the best I do recognize that we are also more generous in our evaluation of them.

When I went to see the Force Awakens 2 years ago I went with an open mind to try and just enjoy it for what it would be. This is a lesson I took from watching the prequels when they came out. I had to let go of the pressure they had to live up to anything, and realize that they don't really have the power to "ruin" Star Wars if they don't live up to the others in my mind. MY Star Wars is safe, nothing can hurt it or ruin it or tarnish it no matter what the prequels did or the squeals might do. This has allowed me to enjoy these other movies for what they are. I can be aware of the flaws without them driving me nuts or acting as if they somehow attacked me personally because they might not have lived up to my love for a franchise I identify with. I then can also enjoy and appreciate what they did or tried to do too. In the end, I think it's the fans that hold on so tightly to everything being "perfect" (according to each individual) that drive themselves crazy, and some others crazy too who have to listen to them. Listen to Master Yoda, as he taps into an ancient wisdom that we must learn to let go of what we fear to lose. Or listen to Leia who understood the more tightly you grasp to something the more it escapes you as she told Tarkin, "The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers." So my advice to fellow Star Wars fans, don't hold on to what you love so tightly, let go, relax your hold of it and you can truly have it and enjoy it for all that it is.

I made a similar post a few days ago in another thread:

People seem to always gravitate towards the pop culture they grew up with as being the "holy grail" of anything. Perhaps because it's nostalgic of their childhood and reminds them of a much more simpler time in life, where you were perhaps too young to really fully understand the intricacies or absorb the gravitas of what you saw in a film and simply just got wrapped up in the "magic" of it so to speak. Star Wars, Superman, Star Trek, etc. I forget who mentioned it, but they stated they were eavesdropping on the conversation of some early twenty year olds who were conversing about SW, and talking about how great the PT is and how corny the OT is compared to it.

It's kind of a vicious cycle. Whatever a particular generation grew up with is always going to be the "holy grail" of something in their eyes, and anything that preceded it was utterly corny and antiquated and anything new is utter "crap" because it doesn't capture the same "magic" of what they grew up with. Show someone the Christopher Reeve Superman films who are now growing up with Cavill Supes, and they'll probably laugh their *** off; just as I'm sure those who grew up with Christopher Reeve probably laughed their *** off when shown George Reeves's Superman because it looked like their dad parading around in a Superman costume. Show today's generation the OS Star Trek who only know of Star Trek with Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, and they'd probably laugh at how "corny" it is.

I didn't read any Tales of the Jedi stuff, but enjoyed KOTOR a lot. I'll agree though that it made it seem like there wasn't much advancement.

I always thought it would be interesting to see a movie set in the old republic era where perhaps most people don't have ships that are capable of intergalactic travel or something. Maybe a story that just follows a village or something dealing with someone with the force like in Looper or the TOR trailers with the kids, or just in some way where no one knows what's going on and maybe they're taken in by a Jedi or Sith academy toward the end. Idk I'm just spit balling.

But I always thought seeing the more "primitive" side of Star Wars would be cool. Like maybe they have to use boats and whatnot to get around, melee weapons and really slow bulky blasters.

Most people probably wouldn't like if they did the old republic that way though lol. But it would be cool to have a setting that actually gives technology room to grow.

Re: Hot Toys Episode 3 Anakin

Date for 10 years...have a kid and calling off engagement...seems like they missed a step. I guess why get married when you know it's over 50% chance you will get a divorce. Percentage is much higher for Hollywood couples.

I totally get that feeling. I think I was 19 at the time. Probably the single greatest movie experience I've had. People of all ages and all demographics together in one place to completely nerd out. Kids were dueling with lightsabers, adults and kids alike were in costumes, there was just so much excitement in the air.

Wish I were able to experience the OT as a kid. Must have been something!

Hear, hear, Wor!

My life changed forever when this skull-like helmeted figure in black strode out of the smoke rasping air and placed its hands on its hips to survey. Never been the same since!

My little mind was blown away after the very 1st scene with the never ending star destroyer. I watched it about 20 times on the the big screen that summer.
