Looks nice, not their finest work but I see it as a cool extra anyway.
I could be wrong but at first glance it looks like a repaint of the MK II face.
Mine will be displayed in faceplate down mode probably anyway as mech test Tony will be the representation of Stark on my shelf.

It really does look like a repainted MKII head...
Wasn't there a picture if him a while back with a different head ?
I think the mouth was open on it.

Yeah, what a huge let down.

I was expecting the open mouthed kojun stark sculpt; not the mark 2 repainted stark sculpt

The sculptor for MK2 face is TJ Cha... The surprise being this extra head? Kojun was and still is credited (now) for the head of BD MK3 on HT's site. So unless there is another un-revealed head by Kojun this is a bait and switch tact.

I have kotobukiya iron man statue. When i saw for the first time the prototype pictures of the head i was really
amazed and i decided to throw away the kotous statue
i was ready to preorder today the figure and for my suprice i saw the advert in hot toys website.what a big dissapointment.they show to as something totally different...if the prototype gets 10 aaa+++ for me this one takes only 4...how can we change hot toys minds? I think many people will cancel their preorders if this head comes out finally... I want the prototype head

As soon as I saw the picture I immediately though Mark II Stark sculpt. It's like it's just a color variant of the Mark II sculpt.

Yuck.

Too bad it isn't just a photoshop job. I think I'm going to display this as Gulmira battle Mark III instead of final battle Mark III.

lolz...what a joke, they just repainted the mark II headsculpt, same as what they did for John Connor.

I have to admit I find it vaguely amusing that people think HT have changed the sculpt back to what we had before just to spite us... you can bet your bottom dollar that if HT went to the time, trouble and expense of getting a new head developed that THAT is the the one they would rather put out.

But if the licensees or RDJ decide they don't like the new work, or if they think it isn't representational enough, then they will pull the plug. It's like Ed Scissorhands, Kane and to a degree Thriller MJ.

Sometimes in business your hands are tied, and as I said, to me it's a bonus item anyway.

proto headsculpts always look better - i like his teeth showing on this and his expression and the kinda dirty look his face has - the final headsculpt in the new backstage pic looks like Hot toys reverting to the simply and easy no expression whatsoever with reduced detail - big thumbs up

It is a straight up Mark 2 repaint. Maybe they just decided to save this prototype sculpt for IM2

you can bet your bottom dollar that if HT went to the time, trouble and expense of getting a new head developed that THAT is the the one they would rather put out.

Then that's Hot Toys own fault for showing a prototype before it's been approved. It's almost deceitful because the first prototype is what they're using to draw the pre-orders in. When they were a new company they would have heavily relied upon those pre-orders, but now that they are a prolific company they ought to wear some of the advanced costs, which they'll recuperate once the proto has been properly approved. As you've pointed out, it's happened on more than a few occasions. It's time to adjust the way they market their figures, I would think.
