Seems to me it's the same one they've been trotting out at past shows like this older photo below, just poorly futzed, has the shoulder bells hidden, and lighted differently. This is one from a while back. Don't see any actual sculpt changes.

Edit: looking further it does seem the face mask is maybe different.

I know. Wow it looks like a downgrade. Such a shame, especially for those who have been eagerly waiting. It doesn't look like a $500 quarter scale HT figure ATM.

I thought all of ESB troopers were reused from ANH and only ROTJ and now RO had different helmets.

ANH Stormtroopers were indeed used for ESB. There are a few changes to the ESB helmet and armor compared to ANH though. ROTJ is very different, but HT might make one in 1/6, since they shown a proto. I don't care about RO Stormies

I still think this is the ROTS version by the one thing that's always stuck out to me...the embedded chest box with no straps. If this is supposed to be Vader's ESB or ROTJ armor, I can't see Hot Toys overlooking a detail like that.

Right the only thing completely off is the helmet in the new pic

Too bad. I really liked some of the earliest photos of the helmet. I thought it was a very very amazing and close representation of Vaders helmet (close in look even to the original trilogy ESB helmet).

And another thing is that Revenge of the Sith made Vader look silly...I'm sorry. Hayden Christensen is a skinny dude..didn't give Vader an imtimadting presence at all. And I feel the material they used for the space suit looked like a cheaper pleather material. So translated to a figure...it still may come across as odd looking and somewhat cheap. Quarter scale should knock Vader out of the park just like they did with my Boba Fett. I think Revenge just has too much limitations in the actual source material (the real suit) to do that.

There's a sign below the prototype. I think this will be in addition to the rots Vader. They likely used the body cuz it was already made and just prototypes a new helmet

Just while we are patiently waiting....I have a question for you guys:

Which version of Darth Vader would you like to see most? What would be your ideal version for the Quarter Scale?

1) Revenge of the Sith

2) Rogue One

3) A New Hope

4) The Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi


You could also include what accessories you'd be interested in.


For myself:

The Empire Strikes Back Darth Vader. Just him with a light sabre and for a stand either an homage to his meditation chamber or a cloud city stand.

The only 2 I'd ever want/need would be an accurate ANH version, and a ROTJ version with alternate Anakin head, reveal mask like SS did with their 1/6 Deluxe Vader. With those in my collection, I'd be satisfied to not need any more Vader's..... Yeah, right! Well, maybe a McQuarrie concept version with 2 heads also.. Still hoping SS makes the 1/6 they teased a few years back.

Now that's a 1/4 Vader I can get behind. I can't rep you anymore right now, Centurion. I'll get ya when I can. But in all actuality, I'd buy any version of Vader in 1/4 scale. WTF Hot Toys, whats taking so long?
