It does have a bit of clone feel to it, armor sections and now with color, but I do like this figure design a lot, much more than the prequel armor designs, and much more than the TFA troopers. Just feels more early phase imperial army. Going to stick with OT though... but you guys buying it have my blessing lol
I feel like a lot of people feel the opposite. The designs are more tied to the OT so I think a lot of us actually prefer these. Some of the TFA stuff is interesting but a lot of it is sloping and a bit bubbly. These borrow much more heavily from the stormtroopers (death trooper nose, helmet shape) and scout (shoretrooper).
Yeah. I guess. These new designs for this movie lack a lot of creativity. These are basically just hack jobs of trooper designs from the original trilogy with none of the punch the original concepts had. They are mix and matched parts. This one looks like he's wearing a Russian winter hat made out of metal. This mouthpiece borrowed from the Biker Scout doesn't work as well here, either - and the same piece is too long on the Death Trooper Specialist. It's like they took these things right out of some random shooter game to fill in the design.
I realize it might be difficult to maintain continuity, but these are all pretty unexciting visually.
Their best design so far is the droid, which harkens back to the 2-1B design and the torture droid from Jabba's palace, but it does so in a completely different way. These trooper concepts are far less successful at that.

I don't see anything other than Ashley Wood's robot designs when I look at K-2SO, probably why I like it so much.
I hear people keep mentioning the work boots as being an odd choice. Well, they are not 100% the same, but they are very close to OT Stormtrooper boots, only brown instead of white. So, I don't think they are odd or out of place at all.

OT stormie boots were painted white though. The RO ones are just like you buy them in the store. And the OT shin armor pretty much totally covered the elastic sides (obscuring boot type,) whereas in the RO trooper, the shin armor is higher so the elastic is more exposed, revealing clearly what kind of boots they are.
Lots of people losing their minds over the fact that this stuff has been updated. In fairness, it's been 30 years since we've seen the classic universe. Things are going to be different. Just like when they introduce a new Bond every 10 years or so. Different, but the same. And yes, I appreciate those that love the classic stuff. So do i, but man, let's just accept the fact that this is a new generation making these movies in the best way they can. I, for one, love the new designs, like this guy. Deathtrooper's name is a bit on-the-nose for my tastes, but looks cool. And yes, the classic stormtrooper costumes look updated. That's ok. If they move even more fluidly as a result, and the actors can see easier, we are gonna get better coordinated moving Stormies. It's an acceptable compromise.
