I just got my Hot Toys ANH Vader and it's already deemed not as accurate or as good as the new one. You sick *******s.

Wonder how long before this Rogue One version becomes obsolete and considered crap. ESB Vader when!?

Moving the belts boxes is so simple -- I have no idea how anyone here 'ruined' their belt doing it.

But we also have no idea how this new R1 belt is. People (actually just canofhumdingers) assumes its better without even having this in hand. You still have incorrect shiny helmet and armor, oversized chest box, and a black dial on the 'buckle' as inaccuracies to making this an ANH Vader. And that's just first glance issues.

Yeah sliding the belt over the Velcro was super easy. I don't want to sound like a ****, but I don't get how people ruined their belts.

While I like the weathering on the new belt, it has that black circle which isn't accurate at all. Unless that's just a reflection I've seen in almost every photo taken of it.

There isn't two components from the ANH Vader that you can put on the R1 Vader that will easily make the R1 Vader look more like ANH Vader. But there's two components from the R1 Vader that will make ANH Vader out of the box look even more like ANH Vader without doing any actual mods, such as repainting and cracking open sculpts.

Both would require repainting to look dead on accurate, but the ANH one is a lot easier to make look like a good ANH Vader than it would take for R1 to look like a good ANH Vader.

I'd just keep the ANH belt and put the weathered R1 boxes on it.

If people want ANH Vader, then get/keep the ANH Vader (and upgrade it if want to). If people want R1 Vader, then get this new one. R1 Vader is not really ANH Vader, not matter how you put it.

Does the backdrop snap into the base or does it stand alone? The HT bases take up too much space.

It's definitely too broad on the actual R1 costume, but on the figure it doesn't look quite as dramatic to me, and the shoulders seem to have more of a slope to them.

I know on the Sideshow Vaders the shoulder pieces were attached with straps, so I wonder if the HT is the same way and it's possible to loosen them so they drop down a bit more...

If the chest armor on Vader in R1 is indeed wide, I have no issues regarding the figure reflecting that because in that sense, it's accurate. It's R1 Vader. However, in an ANH sense, it's inaccurate.

I just stole Dean's idea of the Stormtroopers for Vader. Saw them on Amazonian reduced to €20 each last night ! I know I'm cheap, but by far the best option for the classic Vader in front, 2 Stormtrooper flanking him pose. Although they are Hasbro they actually look quite decent and scale is OK. Just have to make sure the kids don't find out about the sounds they make !

Thanks for the idea Dean ! Great in depth detail review as well. Perfect ! Vader looks so good with the clean helmet. On the comparisons you can see on the angled cheek pieces that there are small jagged steps from the tooling. They've certainly gone to town on this fully polished one !

If RO is indeed a one shot film. Then this is a gem unless Vader is in any of the other upcoming films like Han Solo

Yeah, I agree. I wanted to make ANH and ESB ver. So I guess i'll prolly just get the ANH Vader if I can find one reasonably priced in the future. I could care less with the ROTJ or rogue one ver.

And the freaking huge space diaper R1 uses for a cod piece, incorrect ANH saber, and incorrect painted shoulder bells.

Eh, to each their own I guess. Personally I think the R1 figure looks better than the ANH figure (and I'm strictly going by pics as I've never seen either in person). I also still stand by my view that, assuming you want a really accurate ANH Vader, the R1 figure would be an easier conversion (unless your not bothered by the gunmetal eye sockets, but IMO that completely throws off the look of the face and would have to be fixed). The truth is NEITHER looks like ANH Vader out of the box. Both require modding, plenty of repainting, and replacement of some parts if that's what you're really after.

I DO think that, if you're not going to mod anything at all, this one looks better as is.

I know it's become a dead horse at this point but I just wanna say one more thing... regarding the chest armor, I doubt it's too wide. Vaders chest armor was always really wide, it's just you don't see it in ANH because of the tunic... and yes HT ANH Vader has correctly colored shoulder bells (but horribly innacurate chest armor paint), but this one has more accurately shaped bells. They don't hang slightly under the armor like they usually (always?) did in ANH, but there is OT precedent for how they're attached on this figure.




Alright, I'm all done! Both figs are awesome.
